¹³ I went out by night by ^(A)the Valley Gate to the Dragon Spring and to ^(B)the Dung Gate, and I inspected the walls of Jerusalem ^(C)that were broken down ^(D)and its gates that had been destroyed by fire.

³ And they said to me, “The remnant there in the province who had survived the exile is in great trouble and ^(A)shame. ^(B)The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, ^(C)and its gates are destroyed by fire.”

¹³ Hanun and the inhabitants of Zanoah repaired ^(A)the Valley Gate. They rebuilt it and ^(B)set its doors, its bolts, and its bars, and repaired a thousand cubits^[a] of the wall, as far as ^(C)the Dung Gate.

¹⁴ Malchijah the son of Rechab, ruler of the district of ^(D)Beth-haccherem, repaired ^(E)the Dung Gate. He rebuilt it and ^(F)set its doors, its bolts, and its bars.

¹⁷ Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in, ^(A)how Jerusalem lies in ruins with its gates burned. Come, let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer ^(B)suffer derision.”

³ I said to the king, ^(A)“Let the king live forever! Why should not my face be sad, ^(B)when the city, the place of my fathers' graves, lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?”

⁹ Moreover, Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at ^(A)the Corner Gate and at ^(B)the Valley Gate and at ^(C)the Angle, and fortified them.

³¹ Then I brought the leaders of Judah up onto the wall and appointed two great choirs that gave thanks. ^(A)One went to the south on the wall to ^(B)the Dung Gate.

¹⁵ Then I went up in the night ^(A)by the valley and inspected the wall, and I turned back and entered by the Valley Gate, and so returned.
