³⁵ and some of the priests’ sons ^(A)with trumpets—Zechariah the son of Jonathan, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Michaiah, the son of Zaccur, the son of Asaph,

⁴ And seven priests shall bear seven ^(A)trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city ^(B)seven times, and ^(C)the priests shall blow the trumpets.

² “Make two silver trumpets for yourself; you shall make them of hammered work; you shall use them for ^(A)calling the congregation and for directing the movement of the camps. ³ When ^(B)they blow both of them, all the congregation shall gather before you at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. ⁴ But if they blow only one, then the leaders, the ^(C)heads of the divisions of Israel, shall gather to you. ⁵ When you sound the ^(D)advance, ^(E)the camps that lie on the east side shall then begin their journey. ⁶ When you sound the advance the second time, then the camps that lie ^(F)on the south side shall begin their journey; they shall sound the call for them to begin their journeys. ⁷ And when the assembly is to be gathered together, ^(G)you shall blow, but not ^(H)sound the advance. ^8 (I)The sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets; and these shall be to you as an ^[a]ordinance forever throughout your generations.

^9 (J)“When you go to war in your land against the enemy who ^(K)oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be ^(L)remembered before the Lord your God, and you will be saved from your enemies. ¹⁰ Also ^(M)in the day of your gladness, in your appointed feasts, and at the beginning of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; and they shall be ^(N)a memorial for you before your God: I am the Lord your God.”

¹⁷ Mattaniah the son of ^[a]Micha, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, the leader who began the thanksgiving with prayer; Bakbukiah, the second among his brethren; and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.

¹² Now look, God Himself is with us as our ^(A)head, ^(B)and His priests with sounding trumpets to sound the alarm against you. O children of Israel, do not fight against the Lord God of your fathers, for you shall not prosper!”

^12 (A)and the Levites who were the singers, all those of Asaph and Heman and Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, stood at the east end of the altar, clothed in white linen, having cymbals, stringed instruments and harps, ^(B)and with them one hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets—

¹⁰ Also ^(A)Hosah, of the children of Merari, had sons: Shimri the first (for though he was not the firstborn, his father made him the first), ¹¹ Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth; all the sons and brethren of Hosah were thirteen.

² Of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and ^[a]Asharelah; the sons of Asaph were ^[b]under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied according to the order of the king.

³⁹ And his brother ^(A)Asaph, who stood at his right hand, was Asaph the son of Berachiah, the son of Shimea, ⁴⁰ the son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah, the son of Malchijah, ⁴¹ the son of ^(B)Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah, ⁴² the son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah, the son of Shimei, ⁴³ the son of Jahath, the son of Gershon, the son of Levi.
