Nehemiah 2:2

²So the king said to me, “Why is your face sad, since you are not sick? This can only be sadness of the heart.” Then I was very much afraid.^(A)

Nehemiah 2:2

New International Version

²so the king asked me, “Why does your face look so sad when you are not ill? This can be nothing but sadness of heart.”

I was very much afraid,

¹³A glad heart makes a cheerful countenance,
but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.^(A)

¹³A happy heart makes the face cheerful,^(A)
but heartache crushes the spirit.^(B)

⁷So he asked Pharaoh’s officers, who were with him in custody in his master’s house, “Why are your faces downcast today?”
