Oração de Neemias
1 Estas são as palavras de Neemias, filho de Hacalias.
Eu, Neemias, estava na cidade de Susã[a], no mês de quisleu, no ano vinte[b] do rei Artaxerxes. 2 Aconteceu que chegou Hanani, um dos meus irmãos, junto com outros homens de Judá. Então perguntei a eles sobre os judeus que tinham voltado do exílio para ir morar em Judá, e também sobre a cidade de Jerusalém. 3 Eles me disseram:
—Os judeus que sobreviveram ao cativeiro passam por grandes dificuldades e humilhação. Os muros de Jerusalém continuam derrubados e as suas portas consumidas pelo fogo.
4 Quando ouvi isto, me sentei para chorar, cheio de dor. Durante vários dias me senti muito triste. Eu jejuei e orei ao Deus do céu. 5 Depois eu disse:
—SENHOR, Deus do céu, grande e maravilhoso, o Senhor é fiel a sua promessa de amar as pessoas que o amam e obedecem aos seus mandamentos.
6 —Eu, seu servo, peço ao Senhor que ouça a oração que faço dia e noite pelos seus servos, os israelitas. Confesso que nós, os israelitas, pecamos. Confesso que eu e a minha família pecamos contra o Senhor. 7 Nós, os israelitas, temos feito muito mal diante do Senhor e não temos obedecido aos mandamentos, ordens e leis que deu ao seu servo Moisés.
8 —Peço ao Senhor que se lembre do mandamento que deu ao seu servo Moisés quando disse: “Se não forem fiéis, os dispersarei e os mandarei a viver entre nações estrangeiras. 9 Mas se voltarem a mim e estiverem dispostos a me obedecer, então os reunirei de novo. Ainda estando espalhados nas terras mais distantes, eu os trarei ao lugar que tenho escolhido para ser adorado”.
10 —Eles são os seus servos e o seu povo. O Senhor os livrou com seu grande poder. 11 SENHOR, peço que ouça a oração deste servo e de todos os seus servos que se agradam em lhe dar honra. Faça que tenha sucesso hoje e, quando me apresentar perante o rei, ajude-me a ganhar o seu favor.
Nesse tempo eu era o copeiro do rei[c].

Nehemiah’s Prayer
1 The words of Nehemiah son of Hakaliah:
In the month of Kislev(A) in the twentieth year, while I was in the citadel of Susa,(B) 2 Hanani,(C) one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other men, and I questioned them about the Jewish remnant(D) that had survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem.
3 They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.(E)”
4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept.(F) For some days I mourned and fasted(G) and prayed before the God of heaven. 5 Then I said:
“Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God,(H) who keeps his covenant of love(I) with those who love him and keep his commandments, 6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear(J) the prayer(K) your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess(L) the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s family, have committed against you. 7 We have acted very wickedly(M) toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses.
8 “Remember(N) the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter(O) you among the nations, 9 but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather(P) them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.’(Q)
10 “They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great strength and your mighty hand.(R) 11 Lord, let your ear be attentive(S) to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor(T) in the presence of this man.”
I was cupbearer(U) to the king.

Nehemiah's Prayer
1 I am Nehemiah son of Hacaliah, and in this book I tell what I have done.
During the month of Chislev[a] in the twentieth year that Artaxerxes[b] ruled Persia, I was in his fortress city of Susa,[c] 2 when my brother Hanani came with some men from Judah. So I asked them about the Jews who had escaped[d] from being captives in Babylonia. I also asked them about the city of Jerusalem.
3 They told me, “Those captives who have come back are having all kinds of troubles. They are terribly disgraced, Jerusalem's walls are broken down, and its gates have been burned.”
4 When I heard this, I sat down on the ground and cried. Then for several days, I mourned; I went without eating to show my sorrow, and I prayed:
5 Lord God of heaven, you are great and fearsome. And you faithfully keep your promises to everyone who loves you and obeys your commands. 6 I am your servant, so please have mercy on me and answer the prayer that I make day and night for these people of Israel who serve you. I, my family, and the rest of your people have sinned 7 by choosing to disobey you and the laws and teachings you gave to your servant Moses.
8 (A) Please remember the promise you made to Moses. You told him that if we were unfaithful, you would scatter us among foreign nations. 9 (B) But you also said that no matter how far away we were, we could turn to you and start obeying your laws. Then you would bring us back to the place where you have chosen to be worshiped.
10 Our Lord, I am praying for your servants—those you rescued by your great strength and mighty power. 11 Please answer my prayer and the prayer of your other servants who gladly honor your name. When I serve the king his wine today, make him pleased with me and let him do what I ask.
