12 Questi sono i sacerdoti e i Leviti che tornarono con Zorobabel, figlio di Scealthiel, e con Jeshua: Seraiah, Geremia, Esdra,
2 Amariah, Malluk, Hattush,
3 Scekaniah, Rehum, Meremoth
4 Iddo, Ghinnethoi, Abijah,
5 Mijamin, Maadiah, Bilgah
6 Scemaiah, Joiarib, Jedaiah,
7 Sallu, Amok, Hilkiah e Jedaiah. Questi erano i capi dei sacerdoti e dei loro fratelli al tempo di Jeshua,
8 I Leviti erano Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Scerebiah, Giuda e Mattaniah, che era preposto con i suoi fratelli al canto di ringraziamento.

22 Durante il regno di Dario, il Persiano, furono registrati assieme ai sacerdoti i Leviti che erano capi delle case paterne al tempo di Eliascib, di Joiada, di Johanan e di Jaddua.
23 I figli di Levi, che erano capi delle case paterne, furono invece registrati nel libro delle Cronache fino al tempo di Johanan, figlio di Eliascib.
24 I capi dei Leviti Hashabiah, Scerebiah e Jeshua, figlio di Kadmiel, assieme ai loro fratelli, che stavano di fronte a loro, cantavano inni di lode e di ringraziamento a gruppi alternati, secondo l'ordine di Davide, uomo di DIO.
25 Mattaniah, Bakbukiah, Obadiah Meshullam, Talmon e Akkub erano portinai e facevano la guardia ai magazzini delle porte.
26 Questi vivevano al tempo di Joiakim figlio di Jeshua, figlio di Jotsadak e ai tempo di Nehemia, il governatore, e di Esdra, sacerdote e scriba.
27 Alla dedicazione delle mura di Gerusalemme, mandarono a cercare i Leviti da tutti i loro luoghi, per farli venire a Gerusalemme per celebrare la dedicazione con allegrezza, con lodi e con canti, cembali, arpe e cetre.

36 e i suoi fratelli Scemaiah, Azareel, Milalai, Ghilalai, Maai, Nethaneel Giuda e Hanani, con gli strumenti musicali di Davide, uomo di DIO. Esdra, lo scriba, camminava alla loro testa.
37 Giunti alla porta della Sorgente, salirono direttamente per la scalinata della città di Davide, dove le mura salgono sopra la casa di Davide, fino alla porta delle Acque, a est.
38 Il secondo coro di lode s'incamminò nella direzione opposta, io lo seguivo con metà del popolo, sulle mura, sopra la torre dei Forni, fino al muro Largo,
39 quindi sopra la porta di Efrairn, la porta Vecchia, la porta dei Pesci, la torre di Hananeel, la torre di Meah, fino alla porta delle Pecore; il coro si fermò alla porta della Prigione.
40 I due cori di lode si fermarono nella casa di DIO; cosí feci io, con la metà dei magistrati che erano con me,
41 e i sacerdoti Eliakim Maaseiah, Miniamin, Mikaiah, Elioenai, Zaccaria, Hananiah con le trombe.
42 e Maaseiah, Scemaiah, Eleazar, Uzzi, Jehohanan, Malkijah, Elam e Ezer. I cantori cantarono a voce alta, sotto la direzione di Jezrahiah.
43 In quel giorno offrirono grandi sacrifici e si rallegrarono perché DIO li aveva allietati con una grande gioia. Anche le donne e i fanciulli si rallegrarono; e la gioia di Gerusalemme si udiva da lontano.
44 In quel tempo alcuni uomini furono preposti alle stanze che servivano da magazzini per le offerte, per le primizie e per le decime, per raccogliervi dalle campagne delle città le parti fissate dalla legge per i sacerdoti e i Leviti, perché i Giudei gioivano nel vedere i sacerdoti e i Leviti che prestavano servizio.
45 Essi eseguivano il servizio del loro DIO e il servizio della purificazione, assieme ai cantori e ai portinai, secondo l'ordine di Davide e di Salomone, suo figlio.
46 Anticamente, al tempo di Davide di Asaf, c'erano infatti capi cantori canti di lode e di ringraziamento a DIO.
47 Al tempo di Zerubbabel e al tempo di Nehemia, tutto Israele dava ogni giorno le porzioni assegnate ai cantori ai portinai; inoltre metteva da parte la porzione consacrata per i Leviti, e i Leviti mettevano da parte la porzione consacrata per i figli di Aaronne.

12 (A)Questi sono i *sacerdoti e i *Leviti che tornarono con *Zorobabele, figlio di Sealtiel, e con *Iesua: Seraia, Geremia, Esdra, 2 Amaria, Malluc, Cattus, 3 Secania, Reum, Meremot, 4 Iddo, Ghinnetoi, Abiia, 5 Miiamin, Maadia, Bilga, 6 Semaia, Ioiarib, Iedaia, 7 Sallu, Amoc, Chilchia, Iedaia. Questi erano i capi dei sacerdoti e dei loro fratelli al tempo di Iesua. 8 Leviti: Iesua, Binnui, Cadmiel, Serebia, Giuda, Mattania, che dirigeva con i suoi fratelli i canti di lode. 9 Bacbuchia e Unni, loro fratelli, si alternavano con loro secondo il loro turno.

Inaugurazione delle mura di Gerusalemme
27 (B)Per l'inaugurazione delle mura di *Gerusalemme si mandarono a cercare i Leviti da tutti i luoghi dove si trovavano, per farli venire a Gerusalemme allo scopo di fare l'inaugurazione con gioia, con lodi e canti e suono di cembali, saltèri e cetre. 28 I figli dei cantori si radunarono dai dintorni di Gerusalemme, dai villaggi dei Netofatiti, 29 da Bet-Ghilgal e dal territorio di Gheba e d'Azmavet; poiché i cantori si erano costruiti dei villaggi nei dintorni di Gerusalemme. 30 I sacerdoti e i Leviti si purificarono e purificarono il popolo, le porte e le mura.
31 Poi feci salire sulle mura i capi di *Giuda, e formai due grandi cori con i relativi cortei. 43 In quel giorno il popolo offrí numerosi sacrifici, e si rallegrò perché Dio gli aveva concesso una gran gioia. Anche le donne e i bambini si rallegrarono; e la gioia di Gerusalemme si sentiva da lontano.
Riordinamento delle decime
44 (C)In quel tempo alcuni uomini furono nominati sorveglianti delle stanze che servivano da magazzini delle offerte, delle primizie e delle decime: dai campi intorno alle città dovevano raccogliere nei magazzini le parti assegnate dalla legge ai sacerdoti e ai Leviti; poiché i Giudei erano contenti di vedere i sacerdoti e i Leviti ai loro posti. 45 E questi compivano tutto ciò che riguardava il servizio del loro Dio e le purificazioni; come facevano, dal canto loro, i cantori e i portinai secondo l'ordine di Davide e di Salomone suo figlio. 46 Anticamente infatti, al tempo di Davide e di Asaf, c'erano alcuni capi dei cantori e dei canti di lode e di ringraziamento a Dio. 47 Tutto *Israele, al tempo di Zorobabele e di Neemia, dava giorno per giorno le porzioni assegnate ai cantori e ai portinai; dava ai Leviti le cose consacrate, e i Leviti davano ai figli di *Aaronne le cose consacrate che spettavano loro.

5 Miamin, Maadiah, Bilgah,
6 Shemaiah, and Joiarib, Jedaiah,
7 Sallu, Amok, Hilkiah, Jedaiah. These were the chief of the priests and of their brethren in the days of Jeshua.
8 Moreover the Levites: Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah, which was over the thanksgiving, he and his brethren.
9 Also Bakbukiah and Unni, their brethren, were over against them in the watches.
10 And Jeshua begat Joiakim, Joiakim also begat Eliashib, and Eliashib begat Joiada,

23 The sons of Levi, the chief of the fathers, were written in the book of the chronicles, even until the days of Johanan the son of Eliashib.
24 And the chief of the Levites: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, with their brethren over against them, to praise and to give thanks, according to the commandment of David the man of God, ward over against ward.
25 Mattaniah, and Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon, Akkub, were porters keeping the ward at the thresholds of the gates.
26 These were in the days of Joiakim the son of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah the governor, and of Ezra the priest, the scribe.
27 And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, to keep the dedication with gladness, both with thanksgivings, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps.
28 And the sons of the singers gathered themselves together, both out of the plain country round about Jerusalem, and from the villages of Netophathi;
29 Also from the house of Gilgal, and out of the fields of Geba and Azmaveth: for the singers had builded them villages round about Jerusalem.
30 And the priests and the Levites purified themselves, and purified the people, and the gates, and the wall.
31 Then I brought up the princes of Judah upon the wall, and appointed two great companies of them that gave thanks, whereof one went on the right hand upon the wall toward the dung gate:
32 And after them went Hoshaiah, and half of the princes of Judah,
33 And Azariah, Ezra, and Meshullam,
34 Judah, and Benjamin, and Shemaiah, and Jeremiah,
35 And certain of the priests' sons with trumpets; namely, Zechariah the son of Jonathan, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Michaiah, the son of Zaccur, the son of Asaph:
36 And his brethren, Shemaiah, and Azarael, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethaneel, and Judah, Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God, and Ezra the scribe before them.
37 And at the fountain gate, which was over against them, they went up by the stairs of the city of David, at the going up of the wall, above the house of David, even unto the water gate eastward.
38 And the other company of them that gave thanks went over against them, and I after them, and the half of the people upon the wall, from beyond the tower of the furnaces even unto the broad wall;
39 And from above the gate of Ephraim, and above the old gate, and above the fish gate, and the tower of Hananeel, and the tower of Meah, even unto the sheep gate: and they stood still in the prison gate.
40 So stood the two companies of them that gave thanks in the house of God, and I, and the half of the rulers with me:
41 And the priests; Eliakim, Maaseiah, Miniamin, Michaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah, with trumpets;
42 And Maaseiah, and Shemaiah, and Eleazar, and Uzzi, and Jehohanan, and Malchijah, and Elam, and Ezer. And the singers sang loud, with Jezrahiah their overseer.
43 Also that day they offered great sacrifices, and rejoiced: for God had made them rejoice with great joy: the wives also and the children rejoiced: so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard even afar off.
44 And at that time were some appointed over the chambers for the treasures, for the offerings, for the firstfruits, and for the tithes, to gather into them out of the fields of the cities the portions of the law for the priests and Levites: for Judah rejoiced for the priests and for the Levites that waited.
45 And both the singers and the porters kept the ward of their God, and the ward of the purification, according to the commandment of David, and of Solomon his son.
46 For in the days of David and Asaph of old there were chief of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgiving unto God.
47 And all Israel in the days of Zerubbabel, and in the days of Nehemiah, gave the portions of the singers and the porters, every day his portion: and they sanctified holy things unto the Levites; and the Levites sanctified them unto the children of Aaron.

Priests and Levites
12 These were the priests(A) and Levites(B) who returned with Zerubbabel(C) son of Shealtiel(D) and with Joshua:(E)
Seraiah,(F) Jeremiah, Ezra,
2 Amariah, Malluk, Hattush,
3 Shekaniah, Rehum, Meremoth,
4 Iddo,(G) Ginnethon,[a] Abijah,(H)
5 Mijamin,[b] Moadiah, Bilgah,
6 Shemaiah, Joiarib, Jedaiah,(I)
7 Sallu, Amok, Hilkiah and Jedaiah.
These were the leaders of the priests and their associates in the days of Joshua.
8 The Levites were Jeshua,(J) Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and also Mattaniah,(K) who, together with his associates, was in charge of the songs of thanksgiving. 9 Bakbukiah and Unni, their associates, stood opposite them in the services.
10 Joshua was the father of Joiakim, Joiakim the father of Eliashib,(L) Eliashib the father of Joiada, 11 Joiada the father of Jonathan, and Jonathan the father of Jaddua.
12 In the days of Joiakim, these were the heads of the priestly families:
of Seraiah’s family, Meraiah;
of Jeremiah’s, Hananiah;
13 of Ezra’s, Meshullam;
of Amariah’s, Jehohanan;
14 of Malluk’s, Jonathan;
of Shekaniah’s,[c] Joseph;
15 of Harim’s, Adna;

22 The family heads of the Levites in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, Johanan and Jaddua, as well as those of the priests, were recorded in the reign of Darius the Persian. 23 The family heads among the descendants of Levi up to the time of Johanan son of Eliashib were recorded in the book of the annals. 24 And the leaders of the Levites(O) were Hashabiah, Sherebiah, Jeshua son of Kadmiel, and their associates, who stood opposite them to give praise and thanksgiving, one section responding to the other, as prescribed by David the man of God.(P)
25 Mattaniah, Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon and Akkub were gatekeepers who guarded the storerooms at the gates. 26 They served in the days of Joiakim son of Joshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah the governor and of Ezra the priest, the teacher of the Law.
Dedication of the Wall of Jerusalem
27 At the dedication(Q) of the wall of Jerusalem, the Levites were sought out from where they lived and were brought to Jerusalem to celebrate joyfully the dedication with songs of thanksgiving and with the music of cymbals,(R) harps and lyres.(S) 28 The musicians also were brought together from the region around Jerusalem—from the villages of the Netophathites,(T) 29 from Beth Gilgal, and from the area of Geba and Azmaveth, for the musicians had built villages for themselves around Jerusalem. 30 When the priests and Levites had purified themselves ceremonially, they purified the people,(U) the gates and the wall.
31 I had the leaders of Judah go up on top of[e] the wall. I also assigned two large choirs to give thanks. One was to proceed on top of[f] the wall to the right, toward the Dung Gate.(V) 32 Hoshaiah and half the leaders of Judah followed them, 33 along with Azariah, Ezra, Meshullam, 34 Judah, Benjamin,(W) Shemaiah, Jeremiah, 35 as well as some priests with trumpets,(X) and also Zechariah son of Jonathan, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micaiah, the son of Zakkur, the son of Asaph, 36 and his associates—Shemaiah, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, Judah and Hanani—with musical instruments(Y) prescribed by David the man of God.(Z) Ezra(AA) the teacher of the Law led the procession. 37 At the Fountain Gate(AB) they continued directly up the steps of the City of David on the ascent to the wall and passed above the site of David’s palace to the Water Gate(AC) on the east.
38 The second choir proceeded in the opposite direction. I followed them on top of[g] the wall, together with half the people—past the Tower of the Ovens(AD) to the Broad Wall,(AE) 39 over the Gate of Ephraim,(AF) the Jeshanah[h] Gate,(AG) the Fish Gate,(AH) the Tower of Hananel(AI) and the Tower of the Hundred,(AJ) as far as the Sheep Gate.(AK) At the Gate of the Guard they stopped.
40 The two choirs that gave thanks then took their places in the house of God; so did I, together with half the officials, 41 as well as the priests—Eliakim, Maaseiah, Miniamin, Micaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah and Hananiah with their trumpets— 42 and also Maaseiah, Shemaiah, Eleazar, Uzzi, Jehohanan, Malkijah, Elam and Ezer. The choirs sang under the direction of Jezrahiah. 43 And on that day they offered great sacrifices, rejoicing because God had given them great joy. The women and children also rejoiced. The sound of rejoicing in Jerusalem could be heard far away.
44 At that time men were appointed to be in charge of the storerooms(AL) for the contributions, firstfruits and tithes.(AM) From the fields around the towns they were to bring into the storerooms the portions required by the Law for the priests and the Levites, for Judah was pleased with the ministering priests and Levites.(AN) 45 They performed the service of their God and the service of purification, as did also the musicians and gatekeepers, according to the commands of David(AO) and his son Solomon.(AP) 46 For long ago, in the days of David and Asaph,(AQ) there had been directors for the musicians and for the songs of praise(AR) and thanksgiving to God. 47 So in the days of Zerubbabel and of Nehemiah, all Israel contributed the daily portions for the musicians and the gatekeepers. They also set aside the portion for the other Levites, and the Levites set aside the portion for the descendants of Aaron.(AS)
