Neemia 1
La Nuova Diodati
1 Parole di Nehemia, figlio di Hakaliah, or avvenne che nel mese di Kisleu, nell'anno ventesimo, mentre mi trovavo nella fortezza di Susa,
2 arrivò da Giuda Hanani uno dei miei fratelli, assieme ad alcuni altri uomini. Io li interrogai riguardo ai Giudei scampati, superstiti della cattività, e riguardo a Gerusalemme
3 Essi mi dissero: «I superstiti che sono scampati dalla cattività sono laggiú nella provincia, in grande miseria e obbrobrio; inoltre le mura di Gerusalemme sono piene di brecce e le sue porte consumate dal fuoco».
4 Come udii queste parole, mi posi a sedere e piansi, quindi feci cordoglio per vari giorni, e digiunai e pregai davanti al DIO del cielo.
5 E dissi: «Ti supplico, o Eterno, DIO del cielo, Dio grande e tremendo, che mantieni il patto e la misericordia con quelli che ti amano e osservano i tuoi comandamenti,
6 siano le tue orecchie attente e i tuoi occhi aperti, per ascoltare la preghiera del tuo servo, che rivolgo ora a te giorno e notte per i figli d'Israele tuoi servi, confessando i peccati dei figli d'Israele, che noi abbiamo commesso contro di te. Sí, io e la casa di mio padre abbiamo peccato.
7 Ci siamo comportati molto malvagiamente contro di te e non abbiamo osservato i comandamenti, gli statuti e i decreti che tu ordinasti a Mosè, tuo servo.
8 Ricordati della parola che ordinasti a Mosè, tuo servo, dicendo: "Se peccherete, io vi disperderò fra i popoli;
9 ma se tornerete a me e osserverete i miei comandamenti e li metterete in pratica, anche se i vostri dispersi fossero ai confini del cielo, io di là li raccoglierò e li ricondurrò al luogo che ho scelto per farvi abitare il mio nome"
10 Ora questi sono i tuoi servi e il tuo popolo, che tu hai redento con la tua grande potenza e con la tua forte mano.
11 O Signore, ti prego, siano le tue orecchie attente alla preghiera del tuo servo e alla preghiera dei tuoi servi che prendono diletto nel temere il tuo nome; concedi Oggi stesso, ti prego, buon successo al tuo servo, facendogli trovare clemenza agli occhi di quest'uomo». Io ero allora coppiere del re.

Nehemiah Prays for His People
1 The words of (A)Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah.
It came to pass in the month of Chislev, in the (B)twentieth year, as I was in (C)Shushan[a] the [b]citadel, 2 that (D)Hanani one of my brethren came with men from Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped, who had survived the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem. 3 And they said to me, “The survivors who are left from the captivity in the (E)province are there in great distress and (F)reproach. (G)The wall of Jerusalem (H)is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.”
4 So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.
5 And I said: “I pray, (I)Lord God of heaven, O great and (J)awesome God, (K)You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love [c]You and observe [d]Your commandments, 6 please let Your ear be attentive and (L)Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and (M)confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father’s house and I have sinned. 7 (N)We have acted very corruptly against You, and have (O)not kept the commandments, the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses. 8 Remember, I pray, the word that You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, (P)‘If you [e]are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations; 9 (Q)but if you return to Me, and keep My commandments and do them, (R)though some of you were cast out to the farthest part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and bring them to the place which I have chosen as a dwelling for My name.’ 10 (S)Now these are Your servants and Your people, whom You have redeemed by Your great power, and by Your strong hand. 11 O Lord, I pray, please (T)let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayer of Your servants who (U)desire to fear Your name; and let Your servant prosper this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.”
For I was the king’s (V)cupbearer.

Rugăciunea lui Neemia
1 Istorisirea lui Neemia(A), fiul lui Hacalia. În luna Chişleu, în al douăzecilea an, pe când eram în capitala Susa, 2 a venit Hanani, unul din fraţii mei, şi câţiva oameni din Iuda. I-am întrebat despre iudeii scăpaţi care mai rămăseseră din robie şi despre Ierusalim. 3 Ei mi-au răspuns: „Cei ce au mai rămas din robie sunt acolo în ţară, în cea mai mare nenorocire şi ocară; zidurile(B) Ierusalimului sunt dărâmate(C) şi porţile sunt arse de foc.” 4 Când am auzit aceste lucruri, am şezut jos, am plâns şi m-am jelit multe zile. Am postit şi m-am rugat înaintea Dumnezeului cerurilor 5 şi am zis:
„Doamne(D), Dumnezeul cerurilor, Dumnezeule mare şi înfricoşat, Tu(E) care ţii legământul Tău şi eşti plin de îndurare faţă de cei ce Te iubesc şi păzesc poruncile Tale! 6 Să ia aminte urechea Ta şi ochii să-Ţi fie(F) deschişi: ascultă rugăciunea pe care ţi-o face robul Tău acum, zi şi noapte, pentru robii Tăi, copiii lui Israel, mărturisind(G) păcatele copiilor lui Israel, păcatele făcute de noi împotriva Ta, căci eu şi casa tatălui meu am păcătuit. 7 Te-am supărat(H) şi n-am păzit(I) poruncile Tale, legile şi orânduirile pe care le-ai dat robului Tău Moise. 8 Adu-Ţi aminte de cuvintele acestea pe care le-ai dat robului Tău Moise să le spună: ‘Când veţi păcătui(J), vă voi risipi printre popoare, 9 dar(K), dacă vă veţi întoarce la Mine şi dacă veţi păzi poruncile Mele şi le veţi împlini, atunci, chiar(L) dacă veţi fi izgoniţi la marginea cea mai depărtată a cerului, de acolo vă voi aduna şi vă voi aduce iarăşi în locul pe care l-am ales ca să locuiască Numele Meu acolo.’ 10 Ei(M) sunt robii Tăi şi poporul Tău pe care l-ai răscumpărat prin puterea Ta cea mare şi prin mâna Ta cea tare. 11 Ah, Doamne, să(N) ia aminte urechea Ta la rugăciunea robului Tău şi la rugăciunea robilor Tăi, care vor(O) să se teamă de Numele Tău! Dă astăzi izbândă robului Tău şi fă-l să capete trecere înaintea omului acestuia!” Pe atunci eram paharnicul(P) împăratului.
