Rebuilding the Wall

3 Then (A)Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests (B)and built the Sheep Gate; they consecrated it and hung its doors. They built (C)as far as the Tower of [a]the Hundred, and consecrated it, then as far as the Tower of (D)Hananel. 2 [b]Next to Eliashib (E)the men of Jericho built. And next to them Zaccur the son of Imri built.

3 Also the sons of Hassenaah built (F)the Fish Gate; they laid its beams and (G)hung its doors with its bolts and bars. 4 And next to them (H)Meremoth the son of Urijah, the son of [c]Koz, made repairs. Next to them (I)Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabel, made repairs. Next to them Zadok the son of Baana made repairs. 5 Next to them the Tekoites made repairs; but their nobles did not put their [d]shoulders to (J)the work of their Lord.

6 Moreover Jehoiada the son of Paseah and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah repaired (K)the Old Gate; they laid its beams and hung its doors, with its bolts and bars. 7 And next to them Melatiah the Gibeonite, Jadon the Meronothite, the (L)men of Gibeon and Mizpah, repaired the (M)residence[e] of the governor of the region [f]beyond the River. 8 Next to him Uzziel the son of Harhaiah, one of the goldsmiths, made repairs. Also next to him Hananiah, [g]one of the perfumers, made repairs; and they [h]fortified Jerusalem as far as the (N)Broad Wall. 9 And next to them Rephaiah the son of Hur, leader of half the district of Jerusalem, made repairs. 10 Next to them Jedaiah the son of Harumaph made repairs in front of his house. And next to him Hattush the son of Hashabniah made repairs.

11 Malchijah the son of Harim and Hashub the son of Pahath-Moab repaired another section, (O)as well as the Tower of the Ovens. 12 And next to him was Shallum the son of Hallohesh, leader of half the district of Jerusalem; he and his daughters made repairs.

13 Hanun and the inhabitants of Zanoah repaired (P)the Valley Gate. They built it, hung its doors with its bolts and bars, and repaired a thousand cubits of the wall as far as (Q)the Refuse Gate.

14 Malchijah the son of Rechab, leader of the district of (R)Beth Haccerem, repaired the Refuse Gate; he built it and hung its doors with its bolts and bars.

15 Shallun the son of Col-Hozeh, leader of the district of Mizpah, repaired (S)the Fountain Gate; he built it, covered it, hung its doors with its bolts and bars, and repaired the wall of the Pool of (T)Shelah[i] by the (U)King’s Garden, as far as the stairs that go down from the City of David. 16 After him Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, leader of half the district of Beth Zur, made repairs as far as the place in front of the [j]tombs of David, to the (V)man-made pool, and as far as the House of the Mighty.

17 After him the Levites, under Rehum the son of Bani, made repairs. Next to him Hashabiah, leader of half the district of Keilah, made repairs for his district. 18 After him their brethren, under [k]Bavai the son of Henadad, leader of the other half of the district of Keilah, made repairs. 19 And next to him Ezer the son of Jeshua, the leader of Mizpah, repaired another section in front of the Ascent to the Armory at the (W)buttress.[l] 20 After him Baruch the son of [m]Zabbai carefully repaired the other section, from the [n]buttress to the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest. 21 After him Meremoth the son of Urijah, the son of [o]Koz, repaired another section, from the door of the house of Eliashib to the end of the house of Eliashib.

22 And after him the priests, the men of the plain, made repairs. 23 After him Benjamin and Hasshub made repairs opposite their house. After them Azariah the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ananiah, made repairs by his house. 24 After him (X)Binnui the son of Henadad repaired another section, from the house of Azariah to (Y)the [p]buttress, even as far as the corner. 25 Palal the son of Uzai made repairs opposite the [q]buttress, and on the tower which projects from the king’s upper house that was by the (Z)court of the prison. After him Pedaiah the son of Parosh made repairs.

26 Moreover (AA)the Nethinim who dwelt in (AB)Ophel made repairs as far as the place in front of (AC)the Water Gate toward the east, and on the projecting tower. 27 After them the Tekoites repaired another section, next to the great projecting tower, and as far as the wall of Ophel.

28 Beyond the (AD)Horse Gate the priests made repairs, each in front of his own house. 29 After them Zadok the son of Immer made repairs in front of his own house. After him Shemaiah the son of Shechaniah, the keeper of the East Gate, made repairs. 30 After him Hananiah the son of Shelemiah, and Hanun, the sixth son of Zalaph, repaired another section. After him Meshullam the son of Berechiah made repairs in front of his [r]dwelling. 31 After him Malchijah, [s]one of the goldsmiths, made repairs as far as the house of the Nethinim and of the merchants, in front of the [t]Miphkad Gate, and as far as the upper room at the corner. 32 And between the upper room at the corner, as far as the (AE)Sheep Gate, the goldsmiths and the merchants made repairs.

3 Entonces se levantó el sumo sacerdote Eliasib con sus hermanos los sacerdotes, y edificaron la puerta de las Ovejas. Ellos arreglaron y levantaron sus puertas hasta la torre de Hamea, y edificaron hasta la torre de Hananeel. 2 Junto a ella edificaron los varones de Jericó, y luego edificó Zacur hijo de Imri.

3 Los hijos de Senaa edificaron la puerta del Pescado; ellos la enmaderaron, y levantaron sus puertas, con sus cerraduras y sus cerrojos. 4 Junto a ellos restauró Meremot hijo de Urías, hijo de Cos, y al lado de ellos restauró Mesulam hijo de Berequías, hijo de Mesezabeel. Junto a ellos restauró Sadoc hijo de Baana. 5 E inmediato a ellos restauraron los tecoítas; pero sus grandes no se prestaron para ayudar a la obra de su Señor. 6 La puerta Vieja fue restaurada por Joiada hijo de Paseah y Mesulam hijo de Besodías; ellos la enmaderaron, y levantaron sus puertas, con sus cerraduras y cerrojos. 7 Junto a ellos restauró Melatías gabaonita, y Jadón meronotita, varones de Gabaón y de Mizpa, que estaban bajo el dominio del gobernador del otro lado del río. 8 Junto a ellos restauró Uziel hijo de Harhaía, de los plateros; junto al cual restauró también Hananías, hijo de un perfumero. Así dejaron reparada a Jerusalén hasta el muro ancho. 9 Junto a ellos restauró también Refaías hijo de Hur, gobernador de la mitad de la región de Jerusalén. 10 Asimismo restauró junto a ellos, y frente a su casa, Jedaías hijo de Harumaf; y junto a él restauró Hatús hijo de Hasabnías. 11 Malquías hijo de Harim y Hasub hijo de Pahat-moab restauraron otro tramo, y la torre de los Hornos. 12 Junto a ellos restauró Salum hijo de Halohes, gobernador de la mitad de la región de Jerusalén, él con sus hijas.

13 La puerta del Valle la restauró Hanún con los moradores de Zanoa; ellos la reedificaron, y levantaron sus puertas, con sus cerraduras y sus cerrojos, y mil codos del muro, hasta la puerta del Muladar. 14 Reedificó la puerta del Muladar Malquías hijo de Recab, gobernador de la provincia de Bet-haquerem; él la reedificó, y levantó sus puertas, sus cerraduras y sus cerrojos. 15 Salum hijo de Colhoze, gobernador de la región de Mizpa, restauró la puerta de la Fuente; él la reedificó, la enmaderó y levantó sus puertas, sus cerraduras y sus cerrojos, y el muro del estanque de Siloé hacia el huerto del rey, y hasta las gradas que descienden de la ciudad de David. 16 Después de él restauró Nehemías hijo de Azbuc, gobernador de la mitad de la región de Bet-sur, hasta delante de los sepulcros de David, y hasta el estanque labrado, y hasta la casa de los Valientes. 17 Tras él restauraron los levitas; Rehum hijo de Bani, y junto a él restauró Hasabías, gobernador de la mitad de la región de Keila, por su región. 18 Después de él restauraron sus hermanos, Bavai hijo de Henadad, gobernador de la mitad de la región de Keila. 19 Junto a él restauró Ezer hijo de Jesúa, gobernador de Mizpa, otro tramo frente a la subida de la armería de la esquina. 20 Después de él Baruc hijo de Zabai con todo fervor restauró otro tramo, desde la esquina hasta la puerta de la casa de Eliasib sumo sacerdote. 21 Tras él restauró Meremot hijo de Urías hijo de Cos otro tramo, desde la entrada de la casa de Eliasib hasta el extremo de la casa de Eliasib. 22 Después de él restauraron los sacerdotes, los varones de la llanura. 23 Después de ellos restauraron Benjamín y Hasub, frente a su casa; y después de estos restauró Azarías hijo de Maasías, hijo de Ananías, cerca de su casa. 24 Después de él restauró Binúi hijo de Henadad otro tramo, desde la casa de Azarías hasta el ángulo entrante del muro, y hasta la esquina. 25 Palal hijo de Uzai, enfrente de la esquina y la torre alta que sale de la casa del rey, que está en el patio de la cárcel. Después de él, Pedaías hijo de Faros. 26 Y los sirvientes del templo que habitaban en Ofel restauraron hasta enfrente de la puerta de las Aguas al oriente, y la torre que sobresalía. 27 Después de ellos restauraron los tecoítas otro tramo, enfrente de la gran torre que sobresale, hasta el muro de Ofel.

28 Desde la puerta de los Caballos restauraron los sacerdotes, cada uno enfrente de su casa. 29 Después de ellos restauró Sadoc hijo de Imer, enfrente de su casa; y después de él restauró Semaías hijo de Secanías, guarda de la puerta Oriental. 30 Tras él, Hananías hijo de Selemías y Hanún hijo sexto de Salaf restauraron otro tramo. Después de ellos restauró Mesulam hijo de Berequías, enfrente de su cámara. 31 Después de él restauró Malquías hijo del platero, hasta la casa de los sirvientes del templo y de los comerciantes, enfrente de la puerta del Juicio, y hasta la sala de la esquina. 32 Y entre la sala de la esquina y la puerta de las Ovejas, restauraron los plateros y los comerciantes.

Jerusalems murar byggs upp på nytt

3 Översteprästen Eljasib och hans bröder, prästerna, började bygga Fårporten. De helgade den och satte sedan in dörrarna. De byggde fram till Hammeatornet, som de helgade, och vidare fram till Hananeltornet. 2 Bredvid Eljasib byggde Jerikos män, och bredvid dem byggde Sackur, Imris son.

3 Fiskporten byggdes av Hassenaas barn. De timrade upp den och satte in dörrar, lås och bommar. 4 Bredvid dem arbetade Meremot, son till Uria, son till Hackos, med att sätta muren i stånd. Bredvid honom arbetade Mesullam, son till Berekja, son till Mesesabel. Bredvid honom arbetade Sadok, Baanas son. 5 Vid sidan av honom arbetade tekoaiterna, men de förnämsta bland dem ville inte böja sin nacke för att tjäna sin Herre.

6 Gamla porten sattes i stånd av Jojada, Paseas son och Mesullam, Besodjas son. De timrade upp den och satte in dörrar, lås och bommar. 7 Bredvid dem arbetade gibeoniten Melatja och meronotiten Jadon tillsammans med männen från Gibeon och Mispa, som lydde under ståthållaren i landet på andra sidan floden. 8 Bredvid dem arbetade Ussiel, Harhajas son, tillsammans med guldsmederna. Bredvid dem arbetade Hananja, en av dem som tillverkade salvor. Den närmast liggande delen av Jerusalem lät man vara ända till Breda muren. 9 Vid sidan av dem arbetade Refaja, Hurs son, ledare över ena hälften av Jerusalems område.

10 Vid sidan av honom arbetade Jedaja, Harumafs son, mitt emot sitt eget hus, och bredvid honom arbetade Hattus, Hasabnejas son. 11 En annan sträcka av muren och Ugnstornet sattes i stånd av Malkia, Harims son, och av Hassub, Pahat-Moabs son. 12 Bredvid honom arbetade Sallum, Hallohes son, ledare över andra hälften av Jerusalems område, han själv med sina döttrar.

13 Dalporten sattes i stånd av Hanun och Sanoas invånare. De byggde upp den och satte in dörrar, lås och bommar. De byggde också ettusen alnar på muren, ända fram till Dyngporten.

14 Dyngporten sattes i stånd av Malkia, Rekabs son, ledare över Bet-Hackerems område. Han byggde upp den och satte in dörrar, lås och bommar.

15 Källporten sattes i stånd av Sallum, Kol-Hoses son, ledare över Mispas område. Han byggde upp den och lade tak på den och satte in dörrar, lås och bommar. Han byggde också muren vid Vattenledningsdammen intill den kungliga trädgården, ända fram till trapporna som leder ner från Davids stad. 16 Efter honom arbetade Nehemja, Asbuks son, ledare över ena hälften av Bet-Surs område. Han satte i stånd muren ner till platsen mitt emot Davidsgravarna och vidare fram till den grävda dammen och till Hjältehuset.

Leviter som arbetade på muren

17 Efter honom arbetade leviterna under Rehum, Banis son. Bredvid dem arbetade Hasabja, ledare över ena hälften av Kegilas område, för sitt område. 18 Efter honom arbetade deras bröder under Bavvaj,[a] Henadads son, ledare över andra hälften av Kegilas område. 19 Bredvid honom sattes en annan sträcka i stånd av Eser, Jesuas son, ledare över Mispa, från platsen mitt emot uppgången till vapenförrådet i Vinkeln. 20 Efter honom arbetade Baruk, Sabbajs son, med stor iver på en annan sträcka, från Vinkeln ända fram till ingången till översteprästen Eljasibs hus. 21 Efter honom arbetade Meremot, son till Uria, son till Hackos, på en annan sträcka från ingången till Eljasibs hus ända dit där Eljasibs hus slutar.

Präster som arbetade på muren

22 Efter honom arbetade prästerna, männen från Jordanslätten.

23 Efter dem arbetade Benjamin och Hassub mitt emot sitt eget hus. Bredvid dem arbetade Asarja, son till Maaseja, son till Ananja, utmed sitt eget hus. 24 Efter honom arbetade Binnuj, Henadads son, på ett annat stycke från Asarjas hus ända fram till Vinkeln och vidare fram till Hörnet. 25 Palal, Usajs son, satte i stånd sträckan från platsen mitt emot Vinkeln och det torn som skjuter ut från det övre kungshuset vid fängelsegården.

Efter honom arbetade Pedaja, Paros son. 26 Tempeltjänarna som bodde på Ofel arbetade ända fram till platsen mitt emot Vattenporten mot öster och det utskjutande tornet.

Övriga byggare

27 Efter Pedaja arbetade folket från Tekoa på en annan sträcka, från platsen mitt emot det stora utskjutande tornet fram till Ofelmuren.

28 Ovanför Hästporten arbetade var och en av prästerna mitt emot sitt eget hus. 29 Efter dem arbetade Sadok, Immers son, mitt emot sitt eget hus. Bredvid honom arbetade Semaja, Sekanjas son, som hade vakten vid Östra porten. 30 Efter honom arbetade Hananja, Selemjas son, och Hanun, Salafs sjätte son, på en annan sträcka. Och efter dem arbetade Mesullam, Berekjas son, mitt emot sin tempelkammare. 31 Efter honom arbetade Malkia, en av guldsmederna, ända fram till tempeltjänarnas och köpmännens hus, mitt emot Mönstringsporten och vidare fram till Övre Hörnsalen. 32 Och mellan Övre Hörnsalen och Fårporten arbetade guldsmederna och köpmännen på att sätta muren i stånd.
