Nahum 2
Modern English Version
The Fall of Nineveh
2 He who scatters has come to you.
Guard the fortifications!
Watch the road!
Prepare yourself,
and strengthen yourself!
2 For the Lord is restoring the prominence of Jacob,
even the prominence of Israel,
for others have certainly
laid waste their vines.
3 The shields of his mighty men are soaked red,
even the mighty men are clad in red.
In the day he prepares the chariots,
they are like a fire of iron.
The cypress spears are ready.
4 The chariots run wildly through the streets,
they rush to and fro in the open areas;
their appearance is like torches,
they dash to and fro like lightning.
5 He remembers his officers
as they stumble about on the road;
they hurry on to the wall
as the siege tower is set up.
6 The holding gates are opened wide,
and the palace washes away.
7 It is decreed:
She is uncovered and led away captive;
her handmaidens shall lead her as with the voice of doves,
beating their chests.
8 Nineveh is like a pool
whose waters run away.
“Halt! Halt!” they cry,
but no one turns back.
9 “Plunder the silver!
Plunder the gold!
There is no limit to the treasure,
or to the wealth of every precious thing.”
10 She is desolate, empty, and waste!
Hearts melt away, and knees shake;
pain is in all the loins, and all their faces grow pale.
11 Where is the den of the lions,
and the feeding place of the young lions,
where the lion and lioness prowl,
and the lion’s cub goes, with no one to disturb them?
12 The lion tore enough food for his cubs,
and strangled prey for his lionesses;
he has filled his caves with prey,
and his dens with flesh.
13 I am against you,
says the Lord of Hosts,
and I will burn your chariots in smoke,
and the sword will devour your lions.
I will cut off your prey from the earth,
and the voice of your messengers
will be heard no more.
Nahum 2
New King James Version
The Destruction of Nineveh
2 He[a] who scatters has come up before your face.
Man the fort!
Watch the road!
Strengthen your flanks!
Fortify your power mightily.
2 For the Lord will restore the excellence of Jacob
Like the excellence of Israel,
For the emptiers have emptied them out
And ruined their vine branches.
3 The shields of his mighty men are made red,
The valiant men are in scarlet.
The chariots come with flaming torches
In the day of his preparation,
And [b]the spears are brandished.
4 The chariots rage in the streets,
They jostle one another in the broad roads;
They seem like torches,
They run like lightning.
5 He remembers his nobles;
They stumble in their walk;
They make haste to her walls,
And the defense is prepared.
6 The gates of the rivers are opened,
And the palace is dissolved.
7 [c]It is decreed:
She shall be led away captive,
She shall be brought up;
And her maidservants shall lead her as with the voice of doves,
Beating their breasts.
8 Though Nineveh of old was like a pool of water,
Now they flee away.
[d]“Halt! Halt!” they cry;
But no one turns back.
9 [e]Take spoil of silver!
Take spoil of (A)gold!
There is no end of treasure,
Or wealth of every desirable prize.
10 She is empty, desolate, and waste!
The heart melts, and the knees shake;
Much pain is in every side,
And all their faces [f]are drained of color.
11 Where is the dwelling of the (B)lions,
And the feeding place of the young lions,
Where the lion walked, the lioness and lion’s cub,
And no one made them afraid?
12 The lion tore in pieces enough for his cubs,
[g]Killed for his lionesses,
(C)Filled his caves with prey,
And his dens with [h]flesh.
13 “Behold, (D)I am against you,” says the Lord of hosts, “I will burn [i]your chariots in smoke, and the sword shall devour your young lions; I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your (E)messengers shall be heard no more.”

Nahúm 2
La Palabra (Hispanoamérica)
2 ¡Miren! Vean sobre los montes
las pisadas de un heraldo,
de uno que anuncia la paz.
Celebra tus fiestas, Judá,
cumple tus promesas.
Nunca más te hollará el malvado
pues ha sido totalmente destruido.
2 Un destructor avanza contra ti.
¡Monta la guardia en la fortaleza!
¡Vigila todos los accesos!
¡Prepárate a luchar!
los soldados visten de púrpura;
están listos para el combate,
empuñan las lanzas.
El acero de los carros flamea como fuego;
5 recorren vertiginosos los caminos,
se precipitan por las plazas;
parecen antorchas encendidas,
que se agitan como relámpagos.
6 [El rey] pasa revista a sus capitanes
que se atropellan en su marcha
al correr hacia la muralla
para asegurar el parapeto.
7 Las esclusas de los canales son forzadas,
el palacio se desploma.
8 La reina, descubierta, es deportada;
sus esclavas se golpean el pecho
y gimen igual que palomas.
9 Nínive es como un estanque
cuyas aguas se escapan.
¡Deténganse, deténganse!
Mas nadie se da la vuelta.
10 ¡Saqueen la plata, saqueen el oro!
El tesoro es magnífico,
los objetos preciosos incontables.
11 Destrucción, vacío y devastación,
corazones desfallecidos,
rodillas temblorosas,
entrañas estremecidas,
rostros demudados.
12 ¿Dónde está la guarida de los leones?
En ella los cachorros se alimentaban;
al salir el león, quedaba la leona
para que nadie atemorizara a los cachorros.
13 Desgarraba el león
la presa para sus cachorros,
la despedazaba para sus leonas
y llenaba de caza sus guaridas,
de carne fresca sus cuevas.
14 ¡Aquí estoy contra ti!,
—dice el Señor del universo—.
Convertiré tus carros en humo,
y la espada devorará tus cachorros;
acabaré con tus rapiñas sobre la tierra
y no se oirá más la voz de tus mensajeros.
