1 Oracle sur Ninive. Livre de la prophétie de Nahum, d'Elkosch.
2 L'Éternel est un Dieu jaloux, il se venge; L'Éternel se venge, il est plein de fureur; L'Éternel se venge de ses adversaires, Il garde rancune à ses ennemis.
3 L'Éternel est lent à la colère, il est grand par sa force; Il ne laisse pas impuni. L'Éternel marche dans la tempête, dans le tourbillon; Les nuées sont la poussière de ses pieds.
4 Il menace la mer et la dessèche, Il fait tarir tous les fleuves; Le Basan et le Carmel languissent, La fleur du Liban se flétrit.
5 Les montagnes s'ébranlent devant lui, Et les collines se fondent; La terre se soulève devant sa face, Le monde et tous ses habitants.
6 Qui résistera devant sa fureur? Qui tiendra contre son ardente colère? Sa fureur se répand comme le feu, Et les rochers se brisent devant lui.
7 L'Éternel est bon, Il est un refuge au jour de la détresse; Il connaît ceux qui se confient en lui.
8 Mais avec des flots qui déborderont Il détruira la ville, Et il poursuivra ses ennemis jusque dans les ténèbres.
9 Que méditez-vous contre l'Éternel? C'est lui qui détruit. La détresse ne paraîtra pas deux fois.
10 Car entrelacés comme des épines, Et comme ivres de leur vin, Ils seront consumés Comme la paille sèche, entièrement.
11 De toi est sorti Celui qui méditait le mal contre l'Éternel, Celui qui avait de méchants desseins.
12 Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Quoique intacts et nombreux, Ils seront moissonnés et disparaîtront. Je veux t'humilier, Pour ne plus avoir à t'humilier...
13 Je briserai maintenant son joug de dessus toi, Et je romprai tes liens...
14 Voici ce qu'a ordonné sur toi l'Éternel: Tu n'auras plus de descendants qui portent ton nom; J'enlèverai de la maison de ton dieu les images taillées ou en fonte; Je préparerai ton sépulcre, car tu es trop léger.
15 (2:1) Voici sur les montagnes Les pieds du messager qui annonce la paix! Célèbre tes fêtes, Juda, accomplis tes voeux! Car le méchant ne passera plus au milieu de toi, Il est entièrement exterminé...

God’s Mercy and Judgment
1 The [a]burden (A)against Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
God’s Wrath on His Enemies
2 God is (B)jealous, and the Lord avenges;
The Lord avenges and is furious.
The Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries,
And He reserves wrath for His enemies;
3 The Lord is (C)slow to anger and (D)great in power,
And will not at all acquit the wicked.
(E)The Lord has His way
In the whirlwind and in the storm,
And the clouds are the dust of His feet.
4 (F)He rebukes the sea and makes it dry,
And dries up all the rivers.
(G)Bashan and Carmel wither,
And the flower of Lebanon wilts.
5 The mountains quake before Him,
The hills melt,
And the earth [b]heaves at His presence,
Yes, the world and all who dwell in it.
6 Who can stand before His indignation?
And (H)who can endure the fierceness of His anger?
His fury is poured out like fire,
And the rocks are thrown down by Him.
7 (I)The Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble;
And (J)He knows those who trust in Him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
He will make an utter end of its place,
And darkness will pursue His enemies.
9 (K)What do you [c]conspire against the Lord?
(L)He will make an utter end of it.
Affliction will not rise up a second time.
10 For while tangled (M)like thorns,
(N)And while drunken like drunkards,
(O)They shall be devoured like stubble fully dried.
11 From you comes forth one
Who plots evil against the Lord,
A [d]wicked counselor.
12 Thus says the Lord:
“Though they are [e]safe, and likewise many,
Yet in this manner they will be (P)cut down
When he passes through.
Though I have afflicted you,
I will afflict you no more;
13 For now I will break off his yoke from you,
And burst your bonds apart.”
14 The Lord has given a command concerning you:
[f]“Your name shall be perpetuated no longer.
Out of the house of your gods
I will cut off the carved image and the molded image.
I will dig your (Q)grave,
For you are (R)vile.”[g]
15 Behold, on the mountains
The (S)feet of him who brings good tidings,
Who proclaims peace!
O Judah, keep your appointed feasts,
Perform your vows.
For the [h]wicked one shall no more pass through you;
He is (T)utterly cut off.

2 耶和华是忌邪[b]、报应的 神。
耶和华施报应，大有愤怒；
耶和华向他的敌人报应，
向他的仇敌怀怒。
3 耶和华不轻易发怒，大有能力，
但耶和华万不以有罪的为无罪。
他的道路在旋风和暴风之中，
云彩为他脚下的尘土。
4 他斥责海，使海枯干，
使一切江河干涸。
巴珊和迦密衰残，
黎巴嫩的花草也衰残了。
5 大山因他震动，
小山也都融化；
大地在他面前突起，
世界和住在其间的也都如此。
6 他发愤恨，谁能立得住呢？
他发烈怒，谁能当得起呢？
他的愤怒如火倾泄而出，
磐石因他崩裂。
7 耶和华本为善，
在患难的日子为人的保障，

9 你们筹划何种计谋攻击耶和华呢？
他必终结一切，

图谋邪恶，设恶计攻击耶和华。
12 耶和华如此说：
“他们虽然势力强大，人数众多，
也要被剪除，归于无有。
我虽曾使你受苦，
却不再使你受苦。
13 现在，我要从你身上折断他的轭，
解开捆绑你的绳索。”
14 耶和华已经发命令，指着你说：
“你的名下必不再留后；
我要从你神明的庙中除灭雕刻的偶像和铸造的偶像，

Nahum 1
The Voice
1 This records the vision which burdened a man named Nahum, who came from the town of Elkosh. The vision is a message from God pronouncing what is coming to the city of Nineveh, the capital of the Assyrian Empire.
2 The Eternal One won’t tolerate anything that distracts from Him
and will avenge and settle the score on behalf of His covenant people.
The Eternal will serve up justice when His anger finally overflows.
He brings justice to those who oppose Him
And sustains His fury toward those who work against Him.
3 The Eternal’s anger builds slowly, but His power is great.
He will not allow the guilty to go free.
His way is in fierce winds and storms;
the clouds are dust beneath His feet.
4 He chastises the oceans, and they all dry up;
He makes the rushing rivers run dry too.
The lush lands of Bashan and Carmel wither,
and the beautiful flowers of Lebanon shrivel.
5 In response to Him, mountains quake
and mudslides flow down melting hillsides.
The planet and all who live on it
are overwhelmed in His presence.
6 Who can stand up when His fury finally overflows?
Who can hold up under the heat of His anger?
His fury flows out like fire,
strong enough to shatter even the rocks.
7 The Eternal One is good,
a safe shelter in times of trouble.
He cares for those who search for protection in Him.
8 But with an overwhelming flood,
He will make a complete end to his enemies.
He will chase His foes into oblivion.
This divine appearance, often called a theophany, is a vivid portrayal not only of the Lord’s characteristics but also of His activity on behalf of Israel. Descriptions of fantastic weather patterns demonstrate both the mysterious elusiveness and the mighty grandeur of God. Similar to the story related in Job 38, God visits the afflicted and impoverished through these images, and that impressive power He displays in His storms benefits the oppressed. Despite unspeakable horrors the Assyrians committed against the Israelites, His people still understand that their God is good.
9 Futile are the plots you devise against the Eternal One, Nineveh,
because He will put a stop to them.
Evil will not have a second chance to rise up.
10 They are tangled up in the thorns of their own evil ways,
inebriated by their own excesses.
They are consumed by their own evil, like dried grass in a fire.[a]
11 It was one of your own, Nineveh, who hatched evil plots against the Eternal
and encouraged others toward wickedness.[b]
12 Eternal One (to His people): Although their numbers are countless and they have strong allies,
they will be stopped and their time as your oppressor will pass away.
Although I have brought trouble down on you, people of Judah,
I will bring trouble to you no more.
13 Now I will break their yoke of slavery and death from your shoulders
and tear their chains of religious and political oppression away from you.
Judgment is pronounced against the King of Assyria, his worthless gods, and his worthless life.
14 The Eternal has sent this command about you, king of Nineveh.
Eternal One: You will have no descendants left to carry on your name.
I will destroy the things you have carved and cast with your own hands,
Idols you have made to fill the temples of your gods.
I will personally prepare your grave because you are totally despicable!
15 Look, here comes a runner across the mountains bringing good news, announcing peace!
Celebrate your festivals, people of Judah, and keep the promises you made.
Those wicked armies[c] of Nineveh will never invade you again.
He is utterly cut off.
