        Celebrate your festivals, Judah!
            Fulfill your solemn promises!
    The worthless one will never again invade you;
        he has been completely cut off.

124 If the Lord hadn’t been for us—
    let Israel now repeat!—
²    if the Lord hadn’t been for us,
        when those people attacked us
³then they would have swallowed us up whole
        with their rage burning against us!
⁴Then the waters would have drowned us;
    the torrent would have come over our necks;^[a]
⁵    then the raging waters would have come over our necks!

⁶Bless the Lord
    because he didn’t hand us over
    like food for our enemies’ teeth!
⁷We escaped like a bird from the hunters’ trap;
    the trap was broken so we escaped!

⁸Our help is in the name of the Lord,
the maker of heaven and earth.

²⁴Then Jesus said to his disciples, “All who want to come after me must say no to themselves, take up their cross, and follow me. ²⁵All who want to save their lives will lose them. But all who lose their lives because of me will find them. ²⁶Why would people gain the whole world but lose their lives? What will people give in exchange for their lives? ²⁷For the Human One^[a] is about to come with the majesty of his Father with his angels. And then he will repay each one for what that person has done. ²⁸I assure you that some standing here won’t die before they see the Human One^[b] coming in his kingdom.”
