As pessoas impuras
5 O Senhor Deus disse a Moisés:
2 — Mande que os israelitas expulsem do acampamento todos os que têm uma doença contagiosa da pele, todos os que têm corrimento no membro e todos os que estão impuros por terem tocado em algum morto. 3 Mande para fora do acampamento os que estão impuros, sejam homens ou mulheres, para que não tornem impuro o lugar onde eu moro.
4 Os israelitas fizeram como o Senhor havia ordenado a Moisés, isto é, expulsaram todas essas pessoas do acampamento.
O pagamento por prejuízos
5 O Senhor Deus disse ainda a Moisés:
6 — Diga aos israelitas o seguinte: se um homem ou uma mulher prejudicar alguém, essa pessoa estará ofendendo ao Senhor e por isso será culpada. 7 Terá de confessar o pecado, devolver tudo e pagar mais um quinto para a pessoa que foi prejudicada. 8 Mas, se essa pessoa morreu e não existe parente chegado que receba o pagamento, então o culpado deverá pagar ao Senhor, e o pagamento será do sacerdote. Além desse pagamento, também será entregue o carneiro que o sacerdote oferecerá em sacrifício para conseguir o perdão do pecado dessa pessoa. 9 Todas as ofertas especiais que os israelitas entregam ao Senhor pertencem ao sacerdote a quem elas forem apresentadas. 10 Cada sacerdote ficará com as ofertas sagradas que lhe forem apresentadas.
Como saber se a esposa é fiel ou não
11 O Senhor Deus disse a Moisés:
12 — Fale com os israelitas e diga o seguinte: pode acontecer que uma mulher se desvie e seja infiel ao marido 13 e tenha relações sexuais com outro homem, tornando-se assim impura. O marido não sabe disso, pois não houve testemunhas, e ela não foi apanhada no ato; 14 mesmo assim ele fica desconfiado. Pode acontecer também que o marido fique desconfiado, embora a mulher não tenha cometido adultério. 15 Em qualquer desses dois casos o homem levará a sua mulher ao sacerdote. E levará também a oferta de um quilo de farinha de cevada. Mas o sacerdote não porá azeite nem incenso em cima dessa farinha, pois é uma oferta de um marido desconfiado, isto é, uma oferta para descobrir a verdade.
16 — O sacerdote levará a mulher para a frente e a colocará diante do altar de Deus, o Senhor. 17 Ele derramará água santa num jarro de barro, e pegará um pouco de terra do chão da Tenda Sagrada, e porá na água. 18 E, com a mulher ainda em frente do altar, o sacerdote soltará os cabelos dela e porá nas suas mãos a oferta de farinha de cevada, que é a oferta por causa de ciúme. O sacerdote terá na mão o jarro de água amarga, que traz maldição.
19 — Então o sacerdote fará com que a mulher concorde com o seguinte juramento dito por ele: “Se você, estando debaixo da autoridade do seu marido, não teve relações com outro homem, nem cometeu com outro homem nenhum ato que a tenha tornado impura, então que nada lhe aconteça quando beber esta água amarga que traz maldição. 20 Mas, se você foi infiel e assim se tornou impura, 21 que o Senhor Deus faça do seu nome uma maldição no meio do seu povo, e que os seus órgãos sexuais sequem, e a sua barriga fique inchada. 22 Que esta água entre no seu estômago e faça com que fique inchado, e os seus órgãos sexuais sequem.” Então a mulher responderá: “Que assim seja!”
23 — Aí o sacerdote escreverá essas maldições numa tira de couro e em seguida lavará as palavras para dentro da água amarga. 24 Depois fará com que a mulher beba a água amarga que traz maldição. E a mulher sentirá dentro de si fortes dores. 25 Porém antes o sacerdote pegará da mão da mulher a oferta de cereais feita por causa de ciúmes; ele levantará a oferta na presença de Deus, o Senhor, e a trará ao altar. 26 Então pegará um punhado da oferta de cereais e a queimará em cima do altar para lembrar que é dada a Deus. Finalmente fará com que a mulher beba a água; 27 e, se, de fato, a mulher cometeu adultério e ficou impura, a água entrará nela, e ela sentirá fortes dores. A sua barriga ficará inchada, e os seus órgãos sexuais secarão. E ela será amaldiçoada no meio do seu povo. 28 Porém, se a mulher não cometeu adultério e for inocente, então ficará livre do castigo e poderá ter filhos.
29 — Essa é a lei para os casos em que uma mulher casada comete adultério, e o marido fica desconfiado, 30 ou em que um homem, sem motivo, fica desconfiado da mulher. Ele deverá levar a mulher até o altar de Deus, o Senhor, e o sacerdote fará o que essa lei manda. 31 O marido ficará livre da culpa; mas, se a mulher for culpada, sofrerá o castigo.

Pureza no acampamento de Israel
5 O Senhor disse a Moisés: 2 “Ordene aos israelitas que removam do acampamento todo aquele que sofrer de lepra[a] ou fluxos corporais ou que tiver se tornado cerimonialmente impuro ao tocar num cadáver. 3 Isso se aplica tanto a homens como a mulheres, para que não contaminem seu próprio acampamento, onde eu habito no meio deles”. 4 Os israelitas fizeram conforme o Senhor havia ordenado a Moisés e removeram essas pessoas do acampamento.
5 Então o Senhor disse a Moisés: 6 “Dê as seguintes instruções ao povo de Israel. Se alguém do povo, homem ou mulher, ofender ao Senhor prejudicando outra pessoa, será culpado. 7 Confessará seu pecado e pagará indenização completa pelo dano causado, com um acréscimo de um quinto do valor, e entregará o total à pessoa prejudicada. 8 Mas, se a pessoa prejudicada não tiver parentes próximos para receber a indenização, o valor pertencerá ao Senhor e será entregue ao sacerdote. O culpado também levará um carneiro como sacrifício para fazer expiação por ele. 9 Todas as ofertas sagradas que os israelitas levarem ao sacerdote serão dele. 10 O sacerdote ficará com todas as dádivas sagradas que receber”.
Proteção para a fidelidade conjugal
11 O Senhor também disse a Moisés: 12 “Dê as seguintes instruções ao povo de Israel.
“Se a esposa de alguém se desviar, for infiel ao marido 13 e tiver relações sexuais com outro homem, sem que o marido ou qualquer outra pessoa fique sabendo, ainda que não haja testemunhas e a esposa não tenha sido pega em flagrante, ela ficará contaminada. 14 Se o marido tiver ciúmes, suspeitar da esposa e precisar saber se ela se contaminou ou não, 15 levará a esposa ao sacerdote. Apresentará em favor dela uma oferta de dois litros[b] de farinha de cevada. Não a misturará com azeite nem incenso, pois é uma oferta pelo ciúme, isto é, uma oferta de testemunho da suspeita, para provar se a mulher é culpada ou não.
16 “O sacerdote a apresentará para ser julgada diante do Senhor. 17 Numa vasilha de barro, colocará um pouco de água sagrada e a misturará com pó do chão do tabernáculo. 18 Uma vez que o sacerdote tiver apresentado a mulher diante do Senhor, soltará o cabelo dela e colocará em suas mãos a oferta pelo ciúme como testemunho da suspeita. O sacerdote se colocará diante dela, segurando a vasilha de água amarga que traz maldição sobre os culpados. 19 Em seguida, o sacerdote fará a mulher jurar e lhe dirá: ‘Se nenhum outro homem teve relações sexuais com você, e se você não se desviou nem se contaminou enquanto estava debaixo da autoridade de seu marido, que você permaneça imune aos efeitos desta água amarga que traz a maldição. 20 Mas, se você se desviou sendo infiel a seu marido, e contaminou a si mesma tendo relações sexuais com outro homem…’
21 “Nesse momento, o sacerdote fará a mulher jurar: ‘Que o povo saiba que a maldição do Senhor está sobre você quando ele a tornar estéril, fizer seu útero encolher[c] e seu abdômen inchar. 22 Que esta água que traz a maldição entre no seu corpo e faça seu abdômen inchar e seu útero encolher’. E a mulher responderá: ‘Amém. Que assim seja’. 23 O sacerdote escreverá essas maldições num pedaço de couro, as raspará de modo que caiam na água amarga, 24 e fará a mulher beber a água amarga que traz a maldição. Se a mulher for culpada, quando a água entrar em seu corpo lhe causará amargo sofrimento.
25 “Em seguida, o sacerdote tirará a oferta pelo ciúme da mão da mulher e a moverá para o alto diante do Senhor. Depois, levará a oferta até o altar. 26 Tomará um punhado da farinha como oferta simbólica, queimando-a no altar, e exigirá que a mulher beba a água. 27 Se a mulher tiver se contaminado sendo infiel a seu marido, a água que traz a maldição lhe causará amargo sofrimento. Seu abdômen inchará e seu útero encolherá, e ela se tornará maldição entre seu povo. 28 Mas, se ela não tiver se contaminado e estiver pura, não sofrerá castigo e poderá ter filhos.
29 “Essa é a lei ritual para lidar com a suspeita do marido. Se uma esposa se desviar e se contaminar enquanto estiver debaixo da autoridade do marido, 30 ou o marido tiver ciúme e suspeitar que sua esposa foi infiel, ele a apresentará diante do Senhor, e o sacerdote aplicará em sua totalidade essa lei ritual. 31 O marido será isento de toda a culpa nesse caso, mas a esposa será punida por seu pecado”.

5 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Command the people of Israel that they put out of the camp every leper, and every one having a discharge, and every one that is unclean through contact with the dead; 3 you shall put out both male and female, putting them outside the camp, that they may not defile their camp, in the midst of which I dwell.” 4 And the people of Israel did so, and drove them outside the camp; as the Lord said to Moses, so the people of Israel did.
Confession and Restitution
5 And the Lord said to Moses, 6 “Say to the people of Israel, When a man or woman commits any of the sins that men commit by breaking faith with the Lord, and that person is guilty, 7 he shall confess his sin which he has committed; and he shall make full restitution for his wrong, adding a fifth to it, and giving it to him to whom he did the wrong. 8 But if the man has no kinsman to whom restitution may be made for the wrong, the restitution for wrong shall go to the Lord for the priest, in addition to the ram of atonement with which atonement is made for him. 9 And every offering, all the holy things of the people of Israel, which they bring to the priest, shall be his; 10 and every man’s holy things shall be his; whatever any man gives to the priest shall be his.”
Concerning an Unfaithful Wife
11 And the Lord said to Moses, 12 “Say to the people of Israel, If any man’s wife goes astray and acts unfaithfully against him, 13 if a man lies with her carnally, and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband, and she is undetected though she has defiled herself, and there is no witness against her, since she was not taken in the act; 14 and if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him, and he is jealous of his wife who has defiled herself; or if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him, and he is jealous of his wife, though she has not defiled herself; 15 then the man shall bring his wife to the priest, and bring the offering required of her, a tenth of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it and put no frankincense on it, for it is a cereal offering of jealousy, a cereal offering of remembrance, bringing iniquity to remembrance.
16 “And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the Lord; 17 and the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel, and take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water. 18 And the priest shall set the woman before the Lord, and unbind the hair of the woman’s head, and place in her hands the cereal offering of remembrance, which is the cereal offering of jealousy. And in his hand the priest shall have the water of bitterness that brings the curse. 19 Then the priest shall make her take an oath, saying, ‘If no man has lain with you, and if you have not turned aside to uncleanness, while you were under your husband’s authority, be free from this water of bitterness that brings the curse. 20 But if you have gone astray, though you are under your husband’s authority, and if you have defiled yourself, and some man other than your husband has lain with you, 21 then’ (let the priest make the woman take the oath of the curse, and say to the woman) ‘the Lord make you an execration and an oath among your people, when the Lord makes your thigh fall away and your body swell; 22 may this water that brings the curse pass into your bowels and make your body swell and your thigh fall away.’ And the woman shall say, ‘Amen, Amen.’
23 “Then the priest shall write these curses in a book, and wash them off into the water of bitterness; 24 and he shall make the woman drink the water of bitterness that brings the curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter into her and cause bitter pain. 25 And the priest shall take the cereal offering of jealousy out of the woman’s hand, and shall wave the cereal offering before the Lord and bring it to the altar; 26 and the priest shall take a handful of the cereal offering, as its memorial portion, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall make the woman drink the water. 27 And when he has made her drink the water, then, if she has defiled herself and has acted unfaithfully against her husband, the water that brings the curse shall enter into her and cause bitter pain, and her body shall swell, and her thigh shall fall away, and the woman shall become an execration among her people. 28 But if the woman has not defiled herself and is clean, then she shall be free and shall conceive children.
29 “This is the law in cases of jealousy, when a wife, though under her husband’s authority, goes astray and defiles herself, 30 or when the spirit of jealousy comes upon a man and he is jealous of his wife; then he shall set the woman before the Lord, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law. 31 The man shall be free from iniquity, but the woman shall bear her iniquity.”
