^50 (A)Now there was a man named Joseph, from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man, ⁵¹ who had not consented to their decision and action; and he ^(B)was looking for the kingdom of God. ⁵² This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. ⁵³ Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen shroud and ^(C)laid him in a tomb cut in stone, ^(D)where no one had ever yet been laid. ⁵⁴ It was the day of ^(E)Preparation, and the Sabbath was beginning.^[a]

¹⁴ Now it was ^(A)the day of Preparation of the Passover. It was about the sixth hour.^[a] He said to the Jews, ^(B)“Behold your King!” ¹⁵ They cried out, ^(C)“Away with him, away with him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” ^16 (D)So he ^(E)delivered him over to them to be crucified.

³¹ Since it was ^(A)the day of Preparation, and ^(B)so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was ^(C)a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away.
