5 Ahora serás cercada de ejércitos, oh hija de ejército; se pondrá cerco sobre nosotros; con vara herirán sobre la quijada al juez de Israel.
2 Mas tú, Belén Efrata, pequeña para ser en los millares de Judá, de ti me saldrá el que será Señor en Israel; y sus salidas son desde el principio, desde los días de los siglos.
3 Pero los dejará hasta el tiempo que dé a luz la que está de parto; y el resto de sus hermanos se tornará con los hijos de Israel.
4 Y estará, y apacentará con fortaleza del SEÑOR, con grandeza del Nombre del SEÑOR su Dios; y asentarán; porque ahora será engrandecido hasta los fines de la tierra.
5 Y éste será nuestra paz. Cuando Assur viniere a nuestra tierra, y cuando pisare nuestros palacios, entonces levantaremos contra él siete pastores, y ocho hombres principales;
6 y comerán la tierra de Assur a espada, y la tierra de Nimrod con sus espadas; y nos librará del asirio, cuando viniere contra nuestra tierra y hollare nuestros términos.
7 Y será el remanente de Jacob en medio de muchos pueblos, como el rocío del SEÑOR, como las lluvias sobre la hierba, las cuales no esperaba ya varón, ni esperaban hijos de hombres.
8 Y será el remanente de Jacob entre los gentiles, en medio de muchos pueblos, como el león entre las bestias de la montaña, como el cachorro del león entre las manadas de las ovejas, el cual si pasare, y hollare, y arrebatare, no hay quien escape.
9 Tu mano se alzará sobre tus enemigos, y todos tus adversarios serán talados.
10 Y acontecerá en aquel día, dijo el SEÑOR, que haré matar tus caballos de en medio de ti, y haré destruir tus carros.
11 Y haré destruir las ciudades de tu tierra, y haré destruir todas tus fortalezas.
12 Y haré destruir de tu mano las hechicerías, y no se hallarán en ti agoreros.
13 Y haré destruir tus esculturas y tus imágenes de en medio de ti, y nunca más te inclinarás a la obra de tus manos;
14 y arrancaré tus bosques de en medio de ti: así destruiré tus ciudades.
15 Y con ira y con furor haré venganza en los gentiles que no oyeron.

Humillación y exaltación de la dinastía davídica
5 Ahora, reúne tus tropas, ciudad guerrera,
porque nos asedian.
Con vara golpearán en la mejilla
al gobernante de Israel.
2 Pero tú, Belén Efrata,
pequeña entre los clanes de Judá,
de ti saldrá el que gobernará a Israel;
sus orígenes son de un pasado distante,
desde tiempos antiguos.
3 Por eso Dios los entregará al enemigo
hasta que tenga su hijo la que va a ser madre
y vuelva junto al pueblo de Israel
el resto de sus hermanos.
4 Él se establecerá y los pastoreará
con el poder del Señor,
con la majestad del nombre del Señor su Dios.
Vivirán seguros, porque él dominará
hasta los confines de la tierra.
5 ¡Él será nuestra paz!
Si Asiria llegara a invadir nuestro país
para pisotear nuestras fortalezas,
le haremos frente con siete pastores
y aun con ocho príncipes del pueblo.
6 Ellos pastorearán a Asiria con la espada
y a la tierra de Nimrod con la daga.[a]
Si Asiria llegara a invadir nuestro país,
si llegara a cruzar nuestras fronteras,
¡él nos rescatará!
El remanente
7 El remanente de Jacob será,
en medio de muchos pueblos,
como rocío que viene del Señor,
como abundante lluvia sobre la hierba,
que no depende de los hombres
ni espera nada de ellos.
8 El remanente de Jacob será,
entre las naciones,
en medio de muchos pueblos,
como un león entre los animales del bosque,
como un leoncillo entre las ovejas del rebaño,
que al pasar las pisotea y las desgarra
sin que nadie pueda rescatarlas.
9 Levantarás la mano contra tus enemigos
y acabarás con todos tus agresores.
Purificación de un pueblo idólatra y belicoso
10 «En aquel día», afirma el Señor,
«exterminaré tu caballería
y destruiré tus carros de guerra.
11 Exterminaré las ciudades de tu país
y derribaré todas tus fortalezas.
12 Pondré fin a tus hechicerías
y no tendrás más adivinos.
13 Acabaré con tus ídolos
y con tus piedras sagradas;
nunca más volverás a postrarte
ante las obras de tus manos.
14 Arrancaré tus imágenes de Aserá
y reduciré a escombros tus ciudades;
15 con ira y con furor me vengaré
de las naciones que no me obedecieron».

5 Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.
2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
3 Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.
4 And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.
5 And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.
6 And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.
7 And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the Lord, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.
8 And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.
9 Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.
10 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots:
11 And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:
12 And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:
13 Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.
14 And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities.
15 And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.

The Ruler to Be Born in Bethlehem
5 [a] Now muster your troops, O daughter[b] of troops;
siege is laid against us;
with a rod (A)they strike the judge of Israel
on the cheek.
2 [c] (B)But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
who are too little to be among the clans of (C)Judah,
from you shall come forth for me
one who is to be (D)ruler in Israel,
(E)whose coming forth is (F)from of old,
from ancient days.
3 Therefore he shall give them up (G)until the time
when she who is in labor has given birth;
then (H)the rest of his brothers shall return
to the people of Israel.
4 And he shall stand (I)and shepherd his flock (J)in the strength of the Lord,
in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.
And they shall dwell secure, for now (K)he shall be great
to the ends of the earth.
5 And he shall be (L)their peace.
(M)When the Assyrian comes into our land
and treads in our palaces,
then we will raise against him seven (N)shepherds
and eight princes of men;
6 they shall shepherd the land of Assyria with the sword,
and the land of (O)Nimrod at its entrances;
and he shall deliver us from the Assyrian
(P)when he comes into our land
and treads within our border.
A Remnant Shall Be Delivered
7 Then (Q)the remnant of Jacob shall be
in the midst of many peoples
like dew from the Lord,
like showers on the grass,
which delay not for a man
nor wait for the children of man.
8 And (R)the remnant of Jacob shall be among the nations,
in the midst of many peoples,
like a lion among the beasts of the forest,
like a young lion among the flocks of sheep,
(S)which, when it goes through, treads down
and tears in pieces, and there is none to deliver.
9 Your hand shall (T)be lifted up over your adversaries,
and all your enemies shall be cut off.
10 And (U)in that day, declares the Lord,
(V)I will cut off your horses from among you
and will destroy your chariots;
11 (W)and I will cut off the cities of your land
and throw down all your strongholds;
12 and I will cut off (X)sorceries from your hand,
and (Y)you shall have no more tellers of fortunes;
13 and (Z)I will cut off your carved images
and (AA)your pillars from among you,
(AB)and you shall bow down no more
to the work of your hands;
14 and I will root out your (AC)Asherah images from among you
(AD)and destroy your cities.
15 And in anger and wrath (AE)I will execute vengeance
on the nations that did not obey.
