Sion en la era mesiánica

4 Acontecerá en los últimos días que el monte de la casa del SEÑOR será establecido como cabeza de los montes, y será elevado más que las colinas; y correrán a él los pueblos. 2 Muchas naciones vendrán y dirán: “Vengan, subamos al monte del SEÑOR y a la casa del Dios de Jacob, para que él nos enseñe sus caminos y nosotros caminemos por sus sendas”. Porque de Sion saldrá la ley y de Jerusalén la palabra del SEÑOR.

3 Él juzgará entre muchos pueblos y arbitrará entre naciones poderosas, hasta las más distantes. Y convertirán sus espadas en rejas de arado y sus lanzas en podaderas. No alzará espada nación contra nación ni se adiestrarán más para la guerra. 4 Cada uno se sentará debajo de su vid y debajo de su higuera. Y no habrá quien los amedrente, porque la boca del SEÑOR de los Ejércitos ha hablado.

5 Aunque ahora todos los pueblos anden cada uno en el nombre de sus dioses, con todo, nosotros andaremos en el nombre del SEÑOR nuestro Dios, eternamente y para siempre.

6 “En aquel día, dice el SEÑOR, juntaré a la oveja que cojea y recogeré a la rechazada que yo maltraté. 7 De la que cojea haré un remanente y de la agobiada haré una nación poderosa. Y el SEÑOR reinará sobre ellos en el monte Sion, desde ahora y para siempre. 8 Y tú, oh torre del rebaño, colina de la hija de Sion, a ti vendrá el gobierno de antaño; el reino vendrá a la hija de Jerusalén”.

9 Ahora, ¿por qué gritas tanto? ¿Es que no hay rey en ti? ¿Acaso ha perecido tu consejero? ¿Te ha sobrevenido dolor como a una mujer que da a luz? 10 Sufre dolor y gime como una mujer que da a luz, oh hija de Sion, porque ahora saldrás de la ciudad, habitarás en el campo y llegarás hasta Babilonia. Allí serás librada y allí te redimirá el SEÑOR de la mano de tus enemigos.

11 Ahora se han reunido muchas naciones contra ti y dicen: “¡Sea profanada y vean nuestros ojos la ruina de Sion!”. 12 Pero ellos no conocen los planes del SEÑOR ni comprenden su consejo, a pesar de que él los ha juntado como a gavillas en la era. 13 ¡Levántate y trilla, oh hija de Sion! Haré que tu cuerno sea de hierro y tus uñas de bronce. Desmenuzarás a muchos pueblos y consagrarás al SEÑOR el botín de ellos y sus riquezas al Señor de toda la tierra.

4 Acontecerá en los postreros tiempos que el monte de la casa de Jehová será establecido por cabecera de montes, y más alto que los collados, y correrán a él los pueblos. 2 Vendrán muchas naciones, y dirán: Venid, y subamos al monte de Jehová, y a la casa del Dios de Jacob; y nos enseñará en sus caminos, y andaremos por sus veredas; porque de Sion saldrá la ley, y de Jerusalén la palabra de Jehová. 3 Y él juzgará entre muchos pueblos, y corregirá a naciones poderosas hasta muy lejos; y martillarán sus espadas para azadones, y sus lanzas para hoces;(A) no alzará espada nación contra nación, ni se ensayarán más para la guerra. 4 Y se sentará cada uno debajo de su vid y debajo de su higuera,(B) y no habrá quien los amedrente; porque la boca de Jehová de los ejércitos lo ha hablado.

5 Aunque todos los pueblos anden cada uno en el nombre de su dios, nosotros con todo andaremos en el nombre de Jehová nuestro Dios eternamente y para siempre.

Israel será redimido del cautiverio

6 En aquel día, dice Jehová, juntaré la que cojea, y recogeré la descarriada, y a la que afligí; 7 y pondré a la coja como remanente, y a la descarriada como nación robusta; y Jehová reinará sobre ellos en el monte de Sion desde ahora y para siempre.

8 Y tú, oh torre del rebaño, fortaleza de la hija de Sion, hasta ti vendrá el señorío primero, el reino de la hija de Jerusalén. 9 Ahora, ¿por qué gritas tanto? ¿No hay rey en ti? ¿Pereció tu consejero, que te ha tomado dolor como de mujer de parto? 10 Duélete y gime, hija de Sion, como mujer que está de parto;(C) porque ahora saldrás de la ciudad y morarás en el campo, y llegarás hasta Babilonia; allí serás librada, allí te redimirá Jehová de la mano de tus enemigos.

11 Pero ahora se han juntado muchas naciones contra ti, y dicen: Sea profanada, y vean nuestros ojos su deseo en Sion. 12 Mas ellos no conocieron los pensamientos de Jehová, ni entendieron su consejo; por lo cual los juntó como gavillas en la era. 13 Levántate y trilla, hija de Sion, porque haré tu cuerno como de hierro, y tus uñas de bronce, y desmenuzarás a muchos pueblos; y consagrarás a Jehová su botín, y sus riquezas al Señor de toda la tierra.

4 En los últimos tiempos quedará afirmado
el monte donde se halla el templo del Señor.
Será el monte más alto;
más alto que cualquier otro monte.
Todas las naciones vendrán a él;
2 pueblos numerosos llegarán, diciendo:
«Vengan, subamos al monte del Señor,
al templo del Dios de Jacob,
para que él nos enseñe sus caminos
y podamos andar por sus senderos.»
Porque de Sión saldrá la enseñanza del Señor,
de Jerusalén vendrá su palabra.
3 El Señor juzgará entre las naciones
y decidirá los pleitos de pueblos numerosos,
aun de los más lejanos.
Ellos convertirán sus espadas en arados
y sus lanzas en hoces.
Ningún pueblo volverá a tomar las armas contra otro
ni a recibir instrucción para la guerra.
4 Todos vivirán entonces sin temor,
y cada cual podrá descansar
a la sombra de su vid y de su higuera.
¡Son las propias palabras del Señor todopoderoso!

5 Los otros pueblos obedecen a sus propios dioses,
pero nosotros siempre obedeceremos
al Señor nuestro Dios.

El Señor salvará a su pueblo

6-7 Esto afirma el Señor:

«En aquel día reuniré a mis ovejas,
a las que había castigado:
a las impedidas, cansadas y dispersas.
Con ellas, con las que hayan quedado,
haré una nación poderosa.
Yo, el Señor, gobernaré a mi pueblo
desde el monte Sión, ahora y siempre.
8 Y tú, Jerusalén, torre y fortaleza de Sión,
tú volverás a ser la capital del reino,
la gran señora que antes fuiste.»

9 Ahora pues, ¿por qué gritas así,
como una mujer con dolores de parto?
¿Acaso porque en ti no hay rey?
¿O porque han muerto tus consejeros?
10 Retuércete y grita, ciudad de Sión,
como una mujer con dolores de parto,
porque tu gente va a salir de ti y tendrá que vivir a campo abierto,
y aun llegará hasta Babilonia.
Pero allí librará el Señor a su pueblo;
lo salvará de sus enemigos.

11 Ahora muchas naciones
se han juntado en contra tuya,
diciendo: «¡Vamos a darnos el gusto
de ver a Jerusalén profanada!»
12 Pero esas naciones no conocen
los pensamientos y los planes de Dios;
no saben que él las va a juntar
como manojos de espigas en la era.

13 tate y trilla, ciudad de Sión!
Porque el Señor dice:
«Yo te daré la fuerza de un toro
de cuernos de hierro y pezuñas de bronce,
para que destroces a muchos pueblos.
Tú les quitarás sus riquezas mal habidas
y me las consagrarás a mí,
al Señor de toda la tierra.»

Better Days Ahead for Jerusalem

4 And in future days[a] the Lord’s Temple Mount will be the most important mountain of all;[b]
it will be more prominent than other hills.[c]
People will stream to it.
2 Many nations will come, saying,
“Come on! Let’s go up to the Lord’s mountain,
to the temple of Jacob’s God,
so he can teach us his ways
and we can live by his laws.”[d]
For instruction will proceed from Zion,
the Lord’s message from Jerusalem.
3 He will arbitrate[e] between many peoples
and settle disputes between many[f] distant nations.[g]
They will beat their swords into plowshares,[h]
and their spears into pruning hooks.[i]
Nations will not use weapons[j] against other nations,
and they will no longer train for war.
4 Each will sit under his own grapevine
or under his own fig tree without any fear.[k]
The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has decreed it.[l]
5 Though all the nations follow their respective gods,[m]
we will follow[n] the Lord our God forever.

Restoration Will Follow Crisis

6 “In that day,” says the Lord, “I will gather the lame
and assemble the outcasts whom I injured.[o]
7 I will transform the lame into the nucleus of a new nation,[p]
and those far off[q] into a mighty nation.
The Lord will reign over them on Mount Zion,
from that day forward and forevermore.[r]
8 As for you, watchtower for the flock,[s]
fortress of Daughter Zion[t]—
your former dominion will be restored,[u]
the sovereignty that belongs to Daughter Jerusalem.”
9 Jerusalem, why are you[v] now shouting so loudly?[w]
Has your king disappeared?[x]
Has your wise leader[y] been destroyed?
Is this why[z] pain grips[aa] you as if you were a woman in labor?
10 Twist and strain,[ab] Daughter Zion, as if you were in labor!
For you will leave the city
and live in the open field.
You will go to Babylon,
but there you will be rescued.
There the Lord will deliver[ac] you
from the power[ad] of your enemies.
11 Many nations have now assembled against you.
They say, “Jerusalem must be desecrated,[ae]
so we can gloat over Zion!”[af]
12 But they do not know what the Lord is planning;
they do not understand his strategy.
He has gathered them like stalks of grain to be threshed[ag] at the threshing floor.
13 “Get up and thresh, Daughter Zion!
For I will give you iron horns;[ah]
I will give you bronze hooves,
and you will crush many nations.”[ai]
You will devote to the Lord the spoils you take from them
and dedicate their wealth to the sovereign Ruler[aj] of the whole earth.[ak]

The present translation assumes the form is a Niphal participle of an otherwise unattested denominative verb הָלָא (halaʾ, “to be far off”; see BDB 229 s.v.), but attractive emendations include הַנַּחֲלָה (hannakhalah, “the sick one[s]”) from חָלָה (khalah) and הַנִּלְאָה (hannilʾah, “the weary one[s]”) from לָאָה (laʾah).

  19. Micah 4:8 tn Heb “Migdal Eder.” Some English versions transliterate this phrase, apparently because they view it as a place name (cf. NAB).
  20. Micah 4:8 sn The city of David, located within Jerusalem, is addressed as Daughter Zion. As the home of the Davidic king, who was Israel’s shepherd (Ps 78:70-72), the royal citadel could be viewed metaphorically as the watchtower of the flock.

  22. Micah 4:9 tn The Hebrew form is feminine singular, indicating that Jerusalem, personified as a young woman, is now addressed (see v. 10). In v. 8 the tower/fortress was addressed with masculine forms, so there is clearly a shift in addressee here. “Jerusalem” has been supplied in the translation at the beginning of v. 9 to make this shift apparent.

The Lord’s victory over the Assyrian armies in 701 b.c. foreshadowed this.
