Woe to Evildoers
2 Woe to those who devise iniquity,
And [a]work out evil on their beds!
At (A)morning light they practice it,
Because it is in the power of their hand.
2 They (B)covet fields and take them by violence,
Also houses, and seize them.
So they oppress a man and his house,
A man and his inheritance.
3 Therefore thus says the Lord:
“Behold, against this (C)family I am devising (D)disaster,
From which you cannot remove your necks;
Nor shall you walk haughtily,
For this is an evil time.
4 In that day one shall take up a proverb against you,
And (E)lament with a bitter lamentation, saying:
‘We are utterly destroyed!
He has changed the [b]heritage of my people;
How He has removed it from me!
To [c]a turncoat He has divided our fields.’ ”
5 Therefore you will have no [d]one to determine boundaries by lot
In the assembly of the Lord.
Lying Prophets
6 “Do not prattle,” you say to those who [e]prophesy.
So they shall not prophesy [f]to you;
[g]They shall not return insult for insult.
7 You who are named the house of Jacob:
“Is the Spirit of the Lord restricted?
Are these His doings?
Do not My words do good
To him who walks uprightly?
8 “Lately My people have risen up as an enemy—
You pull off the robe with the garment
From those who trust you, as they pass by,
Like men returned from war.
9 The women of My people you cast out
From their pleasant houses;
From their children
You have taken away My glory forever.
10 “Arise and depart,
For this is not your (F)rest;
Because it is (G)defiled, it shall destroy,
Yes, with utter destruction.
11 If a man should walk in a false spirit
And speak a lie, saying,
‘I will [h]prophesy to you [i]of wine and drink,’
Even he would be the (H)prattler of this people.
Israel Restored
12 “I(I) will surely assemble all of you, O Jacob,
I will surely gather the remnant of Israel;
I will put them together (J)like sheep of [j]the fold,
Like a flock in the midst of their pasture;
(K)They shall make a loud noise because of so many people.
13 The one who breaks open will come up before them;
They will break out,
Pass through the gate,
And go out by it;
(L)Their king will pass before them,
(M)With the Lord at their head.”

2 “Khốn thay cho những kẻ đẻ ra tội ác, những kẻ nghĩ ra các việc bất lương khi nằm trên giường của chúng.
Khi ánh bình minh vừa ló dạng chúng vội vàng đem các ý đồ ấy ra thi hành,
Vì chúng đã có sẵn quyền lực trong tay.
2 Chúng tham muốn ruộng vườn người khác và ra tay chiếm đoạt;
Chúng thèm muốn nhà cửa người ta và kiếm cớ tịch thu;
Chúng đàn áp chủ nhà, rồi cướp lấy nhà,
Chúng đàn áp người khác, rồi tịch thu tài sản họ.”
3 Vì vậy Chúa phán thế nầy,
“Này, Ta sẽ lập ra một kế hoạch để giáng họa xuống gia tộc nầy,
Ðể cổ các ngươi không thể cục cựa,
Ðể chân các ngươi không thể bước đi cách hống hách kiêu căng,
Vì đó sẽ là một thời tai họa cho các ngươi.
4 Trong ngày ấy người ta sẽ làm câu vè chế giễu các ngươi;
Các ngươi sẽ than khóc và hát lên bài ca đắng cay sầu muộn,
Hát rằng, ‘Chúng tôi đã hoàn toàn bị cướp đoạt;
Ngài đã thay đổi sản nghiệp của dân tôi;
Sao Ngài có thể cất sản nghiệp ấy khỏi tôi!
Ngài còn cho chia cắt ruộng vườn chúng tôi cho phường phản nghịch!’”
5 Vì thế ngươi sẽ không được dự phần bắt thăm chia phần trong kỳ đại hội của Chúa.
6 “Ðừng nói tiên tri như thế,” các người bảo,
“Xin đừng nói tiên tri những điều như thế.
Tại họa sẽ không xảy đến với chúng tôi đâu.”
7 Thế thì tôi phải nói tiên tri như thế nào đây?
Hỡi nhà Gia-cốp,
Chẳng phải Thần của Chúa đã chịu đựng các người hết nổi rồi sao?
Ðó chẳng phải là những việc Ngài làm sao?
Há chẳng phải sứ điệp tôi rao giảng có lợi cho những người sống ngay thẳng sao?
8 “Số là các ngươi đã đứng dậy chống lại dân Ta như thể các ngươi là kẻ thù của họ;
Các ngươi đã cướp giựt áo choàng của khách qua đường đinh ninh được an toàn, như thể đám quân từ chiến trường trở về cướp phá.
9 Những phụ nữ của dân Ta đã bị các ngươi đuổi ra khỏi căn nhà mến yêu của họ;
Các ngươi đã cướp đi vĩnh viễn niềm hãnh diện của con cái họ.
10 Hãy đứng dậy và tiếp tục đi,
Vì đây không phải là chỗ để nghỉ ngơi,
Bởi vì nó đã bị ô uế, nên nó sẽ bị tiêu diệt, bị tiêu diệt một cách khủng khiếp.
11 Nếu có kẻ đi khắp nơi thốt ra những lời dối trá rỗng tuếch,
Bảo rằng, ‘Cứ cho tôi rượu ngon và rượu mạnh để tôi uống, tôi sẽ giảng điều có lợi cho các người.’
Một kẻ như thế có thể nào là một giảng sư chân chính cho dân nầy chăng?”

12 “Hỡi Gia-cốp, Ta sẽ nhóm tất cả các ngươi lại,
Ta sẽ gom lại những kẻ còn sống sót của I-sơ-ra-ên;
Ta sẽ quy tụ chúng lại như chiên trong ràn,
Như đàn chiên trên đồng cỏ;
Rồi xứ sở các ngươi sẽ ồn ào vì tiếng của nhiều người.
13 Người mở đường sẽ đi trước dẫn đầu chúng;
Chúng sẽ phá tung cổng và tràn qua,
Chúng sẽ từ cổng đi ra.
Vua của chúng sẽ đi qua trước mặt chúng,
Chúa sẽ dẫn đầu chúng.”

Human Plans and God’s Plans
2 Woe to those who plan iniquity,
to those who plot evil(A) on their beds!(B)
At morning’s light they carry it out
because it is in their power to do it.
2 They covet fields(C) and seize them,(D)
and houses, and take them.
They defraud(E) people of their homes,
they rob them of their inheritance.(F)
3 Therefore, the Lord says:
“I am planning disaster(G) against this people,
from which you cannot save yourselves.
You will no longer walk proudly,(H)
for it will be a time of calamity.
4 In that day people will ridicule you;
they will taunt you with this mournful song:
‘We are utterly ruined;(I)
my people’s possession is divided up.(J)
He takes it from me!
He assigns our fields to traitors.’”
False Prophets
6 “Do not prophesy,” their prophets say.
“Do not prophesy about these things;
disgrace(M) will not overtake us.(N)”
7 You descendants of Jacob, should it be said,
“Does the Lord become[a] impatient?
Does he do such things?”
“Do not my words do good(O)
to the one whose ways are upright?(P)
8 Lately my people have risen up
like an enemy.
You strip off the rich robe
from those who pass by without a care,
like men returning from battle.
9 You drive the women of my people
from their pleasant homes.(Q)
You take away my blessing
from their children forever.
10 Get up, go away!
For this is not your resting place,(R)
because it is defiled,(S)
it is ruined, beyond all remedy.
11 If a liar and deceiver(T) comes and says,
‘I will prophesy for you plenty of wine and beer,’(U)
that would be just the prophet for this people!(V)
Deliverance Promised
12 “I will surely gather all of you, Jacob;
I will surely bring together the remnant(W) of Israel.
I will bring them together like sheep in a pen,
like a flock in its pasture;
the place will throng with people.(X)
13 The One who breaks open the way will go up before(Y) them;
they will break through the gate(Z) and go out.
Their King will pass through before them,
the Lord at their head.”
