The word of the Lord that came to Micah of Mo′resheth in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezeki′ah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samar′ia and Jerusalem.

Judgment Pronounced against Samaria

Hear, you peoples, all of you;
    hearken, O earth, and all that is in it;
and let the Lord God be a witness against you,
    the Lord from his holy temple.
For behold, the Lord is coming forth out of his place,
    and will come down and tread upon the high places of the earth.
And the mountains will melt under him
    and the valleys will be cleft,
like wax before the fire,
    like waters poured down a steep place.
All this is for the transgression of Jacob
    and for the sins of the house of Israel.
What is the transgression of Jacob?
    Is it not Samar′ia?
And what is the sin of the house[a] of Judah?
    Is it not Jerusalem?
Therefore I will make Samar′ia a heap in the open country,
    a place for planting vineyards;
and I will pour down her stones into the valley,
    and uncover her foundations.
All her images shall be beaten to pieces,
    all her hires shall be burned with fire,
    and all her idols I will lay waste;
for from the hire of a harlot she gathered them,
    and to the hire of a harlot they shall return.

The Doom of the Cities of Judah

For this I will lament and wail;
    I will go stripped and naked;
I will make lamentation like the jackals,
    and mourning like the ostriches.
For her wound[b] is incurable;
    and it has come to Judah,
it has reached to the gate of my people,
    to Jerusalem.

10 Tell it not in Gath,
    weep not at all;
in Beth-le-aph′rah
    roll yourselves in the dust.
11 Pass on your way,
    inhabitants of Shaphir,
    in nakedness and shame;
the inhabitants of Za′anan
    do not come forth;
the wailing of Beth-e′zel
    shall take away from you its standing place.
12 For the inhabitants of Maroth
    wait anxiously for good,
because evil has come down from the Lord
    to the gate of Jerusalem.
13 Harness the steeds to the chariots,
    inhabitants of Lachish;
you were[c] the beginning of sin
    to the daughter of Zion,
for in you were found
    the transgressions of Israel.
14 Therefore you shall give parting gifts
    to Mo′resheth-gath;
the houses of Achzib shall be a deceitful thing
    to the kings of Israel.
15 I will again bring a conqueror upon you,
    inhabitants of Mare′shah;
the glory of Israel
    shall come to Adullam.
16 Make yourselves bald and cut off your hair,
    for the children of your delight;
make yourselves as bald as the eagle,
    for they shall go from you into exile.

The word of Jehovah that came to Micah the Morashtite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

Hear, ye peoples, all of you; hearken, O earth, and [a]all that therein is: and let the Lord Jehovah be witness [b]against you, the Lord from his holy temple. For, behold, Jehovah cometh forth out of his place, and will come down, and tread upon the high places of the earth. And the mountains shall be melted under him, and the valleys shall be cleft, as wax before the fire, as waters that are poured down a steep place. For the transgression of Jacob is all this, and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? is it not Samaria? and what are the high places of Judah? are they not Jerusalem? Therefore I will make Samaria as a heap of the field, and as places for planting vineyards; and I will pour down the stones thereof into the valley, and I will uncover the foundations thereof. And all her graven images shall be beaten to pieces, and all her hires shall be burned with fire, and all her idols will I lay desolate; for of the hire of a harlot hath she gathered them, and unto the hire of a harlot shall they return.

For this will I lament and wail; I will go stripped and naked; I will make a wailing like the jackals, and a lamentation like the ostriches. For her wounds are incurable; for it is come even unto Judah; it reacheth unto the gate of my people, even to Jerusalem. 10 Tell it not in Gath, weep not at all: at [c]Beth-le-aphrah [d]have I rolled myself in the dust. 11 Pass away, O [e]inhabitant of Shaphir, in nakedness and shame: the [f]inhabitant of Zaanan is not come forth; the wailing of Beth-ezel shall take from you the [g]stay thereof. 12 For the [h]inhabitant of Maroth [i]waiteth anxiously for good, because evil is come down from Jehovah unto the gate of Jerusalem. 13 Bind the chariot to the swift steed, O [j]inhabitant of Lachish: she was the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion; for the transgressions of Israel were found in thee. 14 Therefore shalt thou give a parting gift to Moresheth-gath: the houses of Achzib shall be [k]a deceitful thing unto the kings of Israel. 15 I will yet bring unto thee, O [l]inhabitant of Mareshah, him that shall possess thee: the glory of Israel shall come even unto Adullam. 16 Make thee bald, and cut off thy hair for the children of thy delight: enlarge thy baldness as the [m]eagle; for they are gone into captivity from thee.
