    setting your nest on high

10 You have devised shame for your house
    by cutting off many peoples;
    you have forfeited your life.(B)
11 The very stones will cry out from the wall,
    and the rafter will respond from the woodwork.

12 “Alas for you who build a town by bloodshed
    and found a city on iniquity!”(C)

13 Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness
    and his upper rooms by injustice,
who makes his neighbors work for nothing
    and does not give them their wages,(A)
14 who says, “I will build myself a spacious house
    with large upper rooms,”
and who cuts out windows[a] for it,
    paneling it with cedar
    and painting it with vermilion.(B)
15 Are you a king
    because you compete in cedar?
Did not your father eat and drink
    and do justice and righteousness?
    Then it was well with him.(C)
16 He judged the cause of the poor and needy;
    then it was well.
Is not this to know me?
    says the Lord.(D)
17 But your eyes and heart
    are only on your dishonest gain,
for shedding innocent blood,
    and for practicing oppression and violence.(E)

25 Its princes[a] within it are like a roaring lion tearing the prey; they have devoured human lives; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many widows within it.(A) 26 Its priests have done violence to my teaching and have profaned my holy things; they have made no distinction between the holy and the common, neither have they taught the difference between the unclean and the clean, and they have disregarded my Sabbaths, so that I am profaned among them.(B) 27 Its officials within it are like wolves tearing the prey, shedding blood, destroying lives to get dishonest gain.(C) 28 Its prophets have smeared whitewash on their behalf, seeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, “Thus says the Lord God,” when the Lord has not spoken.(D)
