16 At siya'y naparoon din naman sa Derbe at sa Listra: at narito, naroon ang isang alagad, na nagngangalang Timoteo, na anak ng isang Judiang sumasampalataya; datapuwa't Griego ang kaniyang ama.
2 Siya'y may mabuting patotoo ng mga kapatid na nangasa Listra at Iconio.
3 Iniibig ni Pablo na sumama siya sa kaniya; at kaniyang kinuha siya at tinuli dahil sa mga Judio na nangasa mga dakong yaon: sapagka't nalalaman ng lahat na ang kaniyang ama'y Griego.
4 At sa kanilang pagtahak sa mga bayan, ay ibinigay sa kanila ang mga utos na inilagda ng mga apostol at ng mga matanda sa Jerusalem, upang kanilang tuparin.
5 Kaya nga, ang mga iglesia'y pinalakas sa pananampalataya at naragdagan ang bilang araw-araw.
6 At nang kanilang matahak ang lupain ng Frigia at Galacia, ay pinagbawalan sila ng Espiritu Santo na saysayin ang salita sa Asia;
7 At nang sila'y magsidating sa tapat ng Misia, ay pinagsikapan nilang magsipasok sa Bitinia; at hindi sila tinulutan ng Espiritu ni Jesus;
8 At pagkaraan nila sa Misia, ay nagsilusong sila sa Troas.
9 At napakita ang isang pangitain sa gabi kay Pablo: May isang lalaking taga Macedonia na nakatayo, na namamanhik sa kaniya, at sinasabi, Tumawid ka sa Macedonia, at tulungan mo kami.
10 At pagkakita niya sa pangitain, pagdaka'y pinagsikapan naming magsiparoon sa Macedonia, na pinatutunayang kami'y tinawag ng Dios upang sa kanila'y ipangaral ang evangelio.
11 Pagtulak nga sa Troas, ay pinunta namin ang Samotracia, at nang kinabukasa'y ang Neapolis;
12 At mula doo'y ang Filipos, na isang bayan ng Macedonia, na siyang una sa purok, lupang nasasakupan ng Roma: at nangatira kaming ilang araw sa bayang yaon.
13 At nang araw ng sabbath ay nagsilabas kami sa labas ng pintuan sa tabi ng ilog, na doo'y sinapantaha naming may mapapanalanginan; at kami'y nangaupo, at nakipagsalitaan sa mga babaing nangagkatipon.
14 At isang babaing nagngangalang Lidia, na mangangalakal ng kayong kulay-ube, na taga bayan ng Tiatira, isang masipag sa kabanalan, ay nakinig sa amin: na binuksan ng Panginoon ang kaniyang puso upang unawain ang mga bagay na sinalita ni Pablo.
15 At nang siya'y mabautismuhan na, at ang kaniyang mga kasangbahay, ay namanhik siya sa amin, na sinasabi, Kung inyong inaakalang ako'y tapat sa Panginoon, ay magsipasok kayo sa aking bahay, at kayo'y magsitira doon. At kami'y pinilit niya.
16 At nangyari, na nang kami'y nagsisiparoon sa mapapanalanginan, ay sinalubong kami ng isang dalagang may karumaldumal na espiritu ng panghuhula, at nagdadala ng maraming pakinabang sa kaniyang mga panginoon sa pamamagitan ng panghuhula.
17 Siya'y sumusunod kay Pablo at sa amin at nagsisigaw, na sinasabi, Mga alipin ng Kataastaasang Dios ang mga taong ito, na nagsisipangaral sa inyo ng daan ng kaligtasan.
18 At maraming mga araw na ginawa niya ito. Datapuwa't palibhasa'y si Pablo ay totoong nababagabag, ay lumingon at sinabi sa espiritu, Iniuutos ko sa iyo sa pangalan ni Jesucristo na lumabas ka sa kaniya. At ito ay lumabas nang oras ding yaon.
19 Datapuwa't nang makita ng kaniyang mga panginoon na wala na ang inaasahan nilang kapakinabangan, ay hinuli nila si Pablo at si Silas, at kinaladkad sila sa pamilihan, sa harapan ng mga may kapangyarihan,
20 At nang maiharap na sila sa mga hukom, ay sinabi nila, Ang mga lalaking ito, palibhasa'y mga Judio, ay nagsisipanggulong totoo sa ating bayan,
21 At nangaghahayag ng mga kaugaliang hindi matuwid nating tanggapin, o gawin, palibhasa tayo'y Romano.
22 At samasamang nagsitindig ang karamihan laban sa kanila: at hinapak ng mga hukom ang kanilang mga damit, at ipinapalo sila ng mga panghampas.
23 At nang sila'y mapalo na nila ng marami, ay ipinasok sila sa bilangguan, na ipinagtatagubilin sa tagapamahala na sila'y bantayang maigi:
24 Na, nang tanggapin nito ang gayong tagubilin, ay ipinasok sila sa kalooblooban ng bilangguan, at piniit ang kanilang mga paa sa mga pangawan.
25 Datapuwa't nang maghahatinggabi na si Pablo at si Silas ay nagsipanalangin at nagsiawit ng mga himno sa Dios, at sila'y pinakikinggan ng mga bilanggo;
26 At kaginsaginsa'y nagkaroon ng isang malakas na lindol, ano pa't nangagsiuga ang mga patibayan ng bahay-bilangguan: at pagdaka'y nangabuksan ang lahat ng mga pinto; at nangakalas ang mga gapos ng bawa't isa.
27 At ang tagapamahala, palibhasa'y nagising sa pagkakatulog at nang makitang bukas ang mga pinto ng bilangguan, ay binunot ang kaniyang tabak at magpapakamatay sana, sa pagaakalang nangakatakas na ang mga bilanggo.
28 Datapuwa't sumigaw si Pablo ng malakas na tinig, na sinasabi, Huwag mong saktan ang iyong sarili: sapagka't nangaririto kaming lahat.
29 At siya'y humingi ng mga ilaw at tumakbo sa loob, at, nanginginig sa takot, ay nagpatirapa sa harapan ni Pablo at ni Silas,
30 At sila'y inilabas at sinabi, Mga ginoo, ano ang kinakailangan kong gawin upang maligtas?
31 At kanilang sinabi, Manampalataya ka sa Panginoong Jesus, at maliligtas ka, ikaw at ang iyong sangbahayan.
32 At sa kaniya'y sinalita nila ang salita ng Panginoon, pati sa lahat ng nangasa kaniyang bahay.
33 At sila'y kaniyang kinuha nang oras ding yaon ng gabi, at hinugasan ang kanilang mga latay; at pagdaka'y binautismuhan, siya at ang buong sangbahayan niya.
34 At sila'y kaniyang ipinanhik sa kaniyang bahay, at hinainan sila ng pagkain, at nagalak na totoo, pati ng buong sangbahayan niya, na nagsisampalataya sa Dios.
35 Datapuwa't nang umaga na, ang mga hukom ay nangagsugo ng mga sarhento, na nagsasabi, Pawalan mo ang mga taong iyan.
36 At iniulat ng tagapamahala kay Pablo ang mga salitang ito, na sinasabi, Ipinagutos ng mga hukom na kayo'y pawalan: ngayon nga'y magsilabas kayo, at magsiyaon kayong payapa.
37 Datapuwa't sinabi sa kanila ni Pablo, Pinalo nila kami sa hayag, na hindi nangahatulan, bagama't mga lalaking Romano, at kami'y ibinilanggo; at ngayo'y lihim na kami'y pinawawalan nila? tunay na hindi nga; kundi sila rin ang magsiparito at kami'y pawalan.
38 At iniulat ng mga sarhento ang mga salitang ito sa mga hukom: at sila'y nangatakot nang kanilang marinig na sila'y mga Romano;
39 At sila'y nagsiparoon at pinamanhikan sila; at nang kanilang mailabas na sila, ay hiniling nila sa kanila na magsilabas sa bayan.
40 At sila'y nagsilabas sa bilangguan, at nagsipasok sa bahay ni Lidia: at nang makita nila ang mga kapatid, ay kanilang inaliw sila, at nagsialis.

Pablo escoge a Timoteo
16 Llegó también a Derbe y a Listra(A). Y[a] estaba allí cierto discípulo llamado Timoteo(B), hijo de una mujer judía creyente(C), pero de padre griego, 2 del cual hablaban elogiosamente los hermanos(D) que estaban en Listra(E) y en Iconio(F). 3 Pablo quiso que este fuera[b] con él, y lo tomó y lo circuncidó(G) por causa de los judíos que había en aquellas regiones, porque todos sabían que su padre era griego. 4 Y conforme pasaban por las ciudades, entregaban los acuerdos(H) tomados por los apóstoles y los ancianos(I) que estaban en Jerusalén, para que los observaran. 5 Así que las iglesias(J) eran confirmadas en la fe[c], y diariamente crecían en número(K).

6 Pasaron por la región de Frigia(L) y Galacia[d](M), habiendo sido impedidos por el Espíritu Santo de hablar la palabra en Asia[e](N), 7 y cuando llegaron a Misia(O), intentaron ir a Bitinia(P), pero el Espíritu de Jesús(Q) no se lo permitió. 8 Y pasando por Misia(R), descendieron a Troas(S). 9 Por la noche se le mostró a Pablo una visión(T): un hombre de Macedonia estaba de pie, suplicándole y diciendo: Pasa a Macedonia(U) y ayúdanos. 10 Cuando tuvo[f] la visión(V), enseguida procuramos(W) ir a[g] Macedonia, persuadidos de que Dios nos había llamado para anunciarles el evangelio(X).

11 Así que[h], zarpando de Troas(Y), navegamos con rumbo directo(Z) a Samotracia, y al día siguiente a Neápolis, 12 y de allí a Filipos(AA), que es una ciudad principal de la provincia de Macedonia(AB), una colonia romana(AC); en esta ciudad nos quedamos por varios días. 13 Y en el día de reposo(AD) salimos fuera de la puerta, a la orilla de un río, donde pensábamos que habría un lugar de oración; nos sentamos y comenzamos a hablar a las mujeres que se habían reunido. 14 Y estaba escuchando cierta mujer llamada Lidia, de la ciudad de Tiatira(AE), vendedora de telas de púrpura, que adoraba a Dios(AF); y el Señor abrió su corazón[i](AG) para que recibiera lo que Pablo decía. 15 Cuando ella y su familia[j](AH) se bautizaron, nos rogó, diciendo: Si juzgáis que soy fiel al Señor, venid a mi casa y quedaos en ella. Y nos persuadió a ir.

16 Y sucedió que mientras íbamos al lugar de oración(AI), nos salió al encuentro una muchacha esclava que tenía espíritu de adivinación(AJ), la cual daba grandes ganancias a sus amos, adivinando. 17 Esta, siguiendo a Pablo y a nosotros, gritaba diciendo: Estos hombres son siervos del Dios Altísimo(AK), quienes os proclaman el[k] camino de salvación. 18 Y esto lo hacía por muchos días; mas desagradando esto a Pablo, se volvió y dijo al espíritu: ¡Te ordeno, en el nombre de Jesucristo, que salgas de ella! Y salió en aquel mismo momento[l](AL).
19 Pero cuando sus amos vieron que se les había ido[m] la esperanza de su ganancia(AM), prendieron a Pablo y a Silas(AN), y los arrastraron hasta la plaza, ante las autoridades(AO); 20 y después de haberlos presentado a los magistrados superiores, dijeron: Estos hombres, siendo judíos, alborotan nuestra ciudad, 21 y proclaman costumbres que no nos es lícito aceptar ni observar(AP), puesto que somos romanos(AQ). 22 La multitud se levantó a una contra ellos, y los magistrados superiores, rasgándoles sus ropas, ordenaron que los azotaran con varas(AR). 23 Y después de darles muchos azotes, los echaron en la cárcel, ordenando al carcelero(AS) que los guardara con seguridad; 24 el cual, habiendo recibido esa orden, los echó en el calabozo interior y les aseguró los pies en el cepo(AT).

25 Como a medianoche, Pablo y Silas(AU) oraban y cantaban(AV) himnos a Dios, y los presos los escuchaban. 26 De repente se produjo un gran terremoto, de tal manera que los cimientos de la cárcel fueron sacudidos(AW); al instante se abrieron todas las puertas(AX) y las cadenas de todos se soltaron(AY). 27 Al despertar el carcelero(AZ) y ver abiertas todas las puertas de la cárcel, sacó su espada y se iba a matar(BA), creyendo que los prisioneros se habían escapado. 28 Mas Pablo clamó a gran voz, diciendo: No te hagas ningún mal, pues todos estamos aquí. 29 Entonces él pidió luz y se precipitó adentro, y temblando, se postró ante Pablo y Silas(BB), 30 y después de sacarlos, dijo: Señores, ¿qué debo hacer(BC) para ser salvo? 31 Ellos respondieron: Cree en el Señor Jesús, y serás salvo(BD), tú y toda tu casa(BE). 32 Y le hablaron la palabra del Señor[n] a él y a todos los que estaban en su casa. 33 Y él los tomó en aquella misma hora de la noche(BF), y les lavó las heridas; enseguida fue bautizado, él y todos los suyos. 34 Llevándolos a su hogar, les dio de comer[o], y se regocijó grandemente por haber creído en Dios con todos los suyos[p](BG).
Vindicación de Pablo y Silas
35 Cuando se hizo de día, los magistrados superiores enviaron a sus oficiales, diciendo: Suelta a esos hombres. 36 El carcelero(BH) comunicó a Pablo estas palabras, diciendo: Los magistrados superiores han dado orden de que se os suelte. Así que, salid ahora e id en paz(BI). 37 Mas Pablo les dijo: Aunque somos ciudadanos[q] romanos(BJ), nos han azotado públicamente sin hacernos juicio y nos han echado a la cárcel; ¿y ahora nos sueltan en secreto? ¡De ninguna manera! Que ellos mismos vengan a sacarnos. 38 Y los oficiales informaron esto a los magistrados superiores, y al saber que eran romanos, tuvieron temor(BK). 39 Entonces vinieron, y les suplicaron, y después de sacarlos, les rogaban que salieran de la ciudad(BL). 40 Cuando salieron de la cárcel, fueron a casa de Lidia(BM), y al ver a los hermanos(BN), los consolaron[r] y partieron.

16 Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:
2 Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.
3 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.
4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.
5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.
6 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,
7 After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.
8 And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.
9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.
10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.
11 Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;
12 And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.
13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
19 And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,
20 And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,
21 And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.
22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.
23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:
24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.
27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.
29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
35 And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.
36 And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.
37 But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.
38 And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.
39 And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.
40 And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.
