Ang Patnubay ng Dios sa Kanyang mga Mamamayan
78 Mga kababayan,[a] ang mga turo koʼy inyong pakinggan.
2 Tuturuan ko kayo sa pamamagitan ng kasaysayan.[b]
Sasabihin ko sa inyo ang mga lihim na katotohanan ng nakaraan.
3 Napakinggan na natin ito at nalaman.
Sinabi ito sa atin ng ating mga ninuno.
4 Huwag natin itong ilihim sa ating mga anak;
sabihin din natin ito sa mga susunod na salinlahi.
Sabihin natin sa kanila ang kapangyarihan ng Panginoon at ang mga kahanga-hanga niyang gawa.
5 Ibinigay niya ang kanyang mga kautusan sa mga mamamayan ng Israel na mula sa lahi ni Jacob.
Iniutos niya sa ating mga ninuno na ituro ito sa kanilang mga anak,
6 upang malaman din ito ng mga susunod na lahi at nang ituro rin nila ito sa kanilang mga anak.
7 Sa ganitong paraan, magtitiwala sila sa Dios at hindi nila makakalimutan ang kanyang ginawa, at susundin nila ang kanyang mga utos,
8 upang hindi sila maging katulad ng kanilang mga ninuno na matitigas ang ulo, suwail, hindi lubos ang pagtitiwala sa Dios, at hindi tapat sa kanya.
9 Tulad ng mga taga-Efraim, bagamaʼt may mga pana sila,
pero sa oras naman ng labanan ay nagsisipag-atrasan.
10 Hindi nila sinunod ang kasunduan nila sa Dios,
maging ang kanyang mga utos.
11 Nakalimutan na nila ang mga kahanga-hanga niyang ginawa na ipinakita niya sa kanila.
12 Gumawa ang Dios ng mga himala roon sa Zoan sa lupain ng Egipto at nakita ito ng ating[c] mga ninuno.
13 Hinawi niya ang dagat at pinadaan sila roon;
ginawa niyang tila magkabilang pader ang tubig.
14 Sa araw ay pinapatnubayan niya sila sa pamamagitan ng ulap,
at sa gabi naman ay sa pamamagitan ng liwanag ng apoy.
15 Biniyak niya ang mga bato sa ilang at dumaloy ang tubig at binigyan sila ng maraming inumin mula sa kailaliman ng lupa.
16 Pinalabas niya ang tubig mula sa bato at ang tubig ay umagos gaya ng ilog.
17 Ngunit ang ating mga ninuno ay patuloy na nagkasala sa kanya. Naghimagsik sila sa Kataas-taasang Dios doon sa ilang.
18 Sinadya nilang subukin ang Dios upang hingin ang mga pagkaing gusto nila.
19 Kinutya nila ang Dios nang sabihin nilang,
“Makakapaghanda ba ang Dios ng pagkain dito sa ilang?
20 Oo ngaʼt umagos ang tubig nang hampasin niya ang bato,
ngunit makapagbibigay din ba siya ng tinapay at karne sa atin?”
21 Kaya nang marinig ito ng Panginoon nagalit siya sa kanila.
Nag-apoy sa galit ang Panginoon laban sa lahi ni Jacob,
22 dahil wala silang pananampalataya sa kanya, at hindi sila nagtitiwala na ililigtas niya sila.
23 Ganoon pa man, iniutos niyang bumukas ang langit,
24 at pinaulanan sila ng pagkain na tinatawag na manna.
Ibinigay ito sa kanila upang kainin.
25 Kinain nila ang pagkain ng mga anghel, at binigyan sila nito ng Dios hanggaʼt gusto nila.
26 Pinaihip niya ang hangin mula sa silangan at sa timog sa pamamagitan ng kanyang kapangyarihan.
27 Pinaulanan din sila ng napakaraming ibon, na kasindami ng buhangin sa tabing-dagat.
28 Pinadapo niya ang mga ito sa palibot ng kanilang mga tolda sa kampo.
29 Kaya kumain sila hanggang sa mabusog, dahil ibinigay sa kanila ng Dios ang gusto nila.
30 Ngunit habang kumakain sila at nagpapakabusog,
31 nagalit ang Dios sa kanila.
Pinatay niya ang makikisig na mga kabataan ng Israel.
32 Sa kabila ng lahat ng ginawa ng Dios sa kanila,
nagpatuloy pa rin sila sa pagkakasala.
Kahit na gumawa siya ng mga himala,
hindi pa rin sila naniwala.
33 Kaya agad niyang winakasan ang buhay nila sa pamamagitan ng biglaang pagdating ng kapahamakan.
34 Nang patayin ng Dios ang ilan sa kanila,
ang mga natira ay lumapit na sa kanya,
nagsisi at nagbalik-loob sa kanya.
35 At naalala nila na ang Kataas-taasang Dios ang kanilang Bato na kanlungan at Tagapagligtas.
36 Nagpuri sila sa kanya, ngunit sa bibig lang, kaya sinungaling sila.
37 Hindi sila tapat sa kanya at sa kanilang kasunduan.
38 Ngunit naawa pa rin ang Dios sa kanila,
pinatawad ang mga kasalanan nila at hindi sila nilipol.
Maraming beses niyang pinigil ang kanyang galit kahit napakatindi na ng kanyang poot.
39 Naisip niyang mga tao lang sila,
parang hangin na dumadaan at biglang nawawala.
40 Madalas silang maghimagsik sa Dios doon sa ilang at pinalungkot nila siya.
41 Paulit-ulit nilang sinubok ang Dios;
ginalit nila ang Banal na Dios ng Israel.
42 Kinalimutan nila ang kanyang kapangyarihan na ipinakita noong iniligtas niya sila mula sa kanilang mga kaaway,
43 pati ang mga ginawa niyang mga himala at mga kahanga-hangang gawa roon sa Zoan sa lupain ng Egipto.
44 Ginawa niyang dugo ang mga ilog sa Egipto, at dahil dito wala silang mainom.
45 Nagpadala rin siya ng napakaraming langaw upang parusahan sila,
at mga palaka upang pinsalain sila.
46 Ipinakain niya sa mga balang ang kanilang mga pananim at mga ani.
47 Sinira niya ang kanilang mga tanim na ubas at mga punong sikomoro sa pamamagitan ng pagpapaulan ng yelo.
48 Pinagpapatay niya ang kanilang mga hayop sa pamamagitan ng kidlat at pag-ulan ng malalaking yelo.
49 Dahil sa napakatinding poot at galit niya sa kanila,
nagpadala rin siya ng mga anghel upang ipahamak sila.
50 Hindi pinigilan ng Dios ang kanyang poot.
Hindi niya sila iniligtas sa kamatayan.
Sa halip ay pinatay sila sa pamamagitan ng mga salot.
51 Pinatay niyang lahat ang mga panganay na lalaki sa Egipto na siyang lugar ng lahi ni Ham.
52 Ngunit inilabas niya sa Egipto ang kanyang mga mamamayan na katulad ng mga tupa at pinatnubayan sila na parang kanyang kawan sa ilang.
53 Pinatnubayan niya sila, kaya hindi sila natakot.
Ngunit ang mga kaaway nila ay nalunod sa dagat.
54 Dinala sila ng Dios sa lupain na kanyang pinili,
doon sa kabundukan na kinuha niya sa pamamagitan ng kanyang kapangyarihan.
55 Itinaboy niya ang lahat ng naninirahan doon,
at hinati-hati ang lupain sa mga lahi ng Israel para maging pag-aari nila at maging tirahan.
56 Ngunit sinubok pa rin nila ang Kataas-taasang Dios,
naghimagsik sila at hindi sumunod sa kanyang mga utos.
57 Tumalikod sila sa Dios kagaya ng kanilang mga ninuno.
Tulad sila ng isang sirang pana na hindi mapagkakatiwalaan.
58 Pinanibugho nila ang Dios at ginalit dahil sa mga dios-diosan sa mga sambahan sa matataas na lugar.[d]
59 Alam[e] ng Dios ang ginawa ng mga Israelita,
kaya nagalit siya at itinakwil sila nang lubusan.
60 Iniwanan niya ang kanyang tolda sa Shilo, kung saan siya nananahan dito sa mundo.
61 Hinayaan niyang agawin ng mga kaaway ang Kahon ng Kasunduan na simbolo ng kanyang kapangyarihan at kadakilaan.
62 Nagalit siya sa kanyang mga mamamayan kaya ipinapatay niya sila sa kanilang mga kaaway.
63 Sinunog ang kanilang mga binata,
kaya walang mapangasawa ang kanilang mga dalaga.
64 Namatay sa labanan ang kanilang mga pari,
at ang mga naiwan nilang asawa ay hindi makapagluksa.[f]
65 Pagkatapos, parang nagising ang Panginoon mula sa kanyang pagkakahimlay;
at para siyang isang malakas na tao na pinatapang ng alak.
66 Itinaboy niya at pinaatras ang kanyang mga kaaway;
inilagay niya sila sa walang hanggang kahihiyan.
67 Itinakwil niya ang lahi ni Jose, hindi rin niya pinili ang lahi ni Efraim.[g]
68 Sa halip ay pinili niya ang lahi ni Juda at ang bundok ng Zion na kanyang minamahal.
69 Doon niya ipinatayo ang kanyang templo, katulad ng langit at lupa na matatag magpakailanman.
70-71 Pinili ng Dios si David upang maging lingkod niya.
Kinuha siya mula sa pagpapastol ng tupa at ginawang hari ng Israel, ang mga mamamayang kanyang hinirang.
72 Katulad ng isang mabuting pastol, inalagaan niya ang mga Israelita nang may katapatan at mahusay silang pinamunuan.

78 Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
3 Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
4 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
5 For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
6 That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:
7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:
8 And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.
9 The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
10 They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;
11 And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.
12 Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
13 He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.
14 In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.
15 He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.
16 He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
17 And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.
18 And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.
19 Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?
20 Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
21 Therefore the Lord heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;
22 Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:
23 Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.
25 Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.
26 He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.
27 He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:
28 And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
29 So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;
30 They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,
31 The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.
32 For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.
33 Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.
34 When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.
35 And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.
36 Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.
37 For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.
38 But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
39 For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
40 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!
41 Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
42 They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.
43 How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan.
44 And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.
45 He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
46 He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.
47 He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.
48 He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
49 He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.
50 He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;
51 And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:
52 But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
53 And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
54 And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.
55 He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
56 Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:
57 But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.
58 For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
59 When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:
60 So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;
61 And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.
62 He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.
63 The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.
64 Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.
65 Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.
66 And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.
67 Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:
68 But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
69 And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.
70 He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:
71 From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.
72 So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.

Mon peuple, écoute mon enseignement,
sois attentif à ce que je vais dire.
2 J’énoncerai des propos instructifs,
j’évoquerai des secrets du passé[c].
3 Nous avons entendu et nous savons
ce que nos pères nous ont raconté,
4 nous n’allons pas le cacher à leurs descendants.
Nous redirons à la génération suivante, ╵les œuvres glorieuses de l’Eternel,
les puissants actes ╵et les prodiges qu’il a accomplis.
5 Il a fixé une règle en Jacob,
établi une loi en Israël,
et il a ordonné à nos ancêtres ╵d’enseigner tout cela à leurs enfants,
6 afin que la génération suivante ╵puisse l’apprendre
et que les enfants qui viendront à naître,
se lèvent à leur tour ╵pour l’enseigner à leurs propres enfants,
7 afin qu’ils placent leur confiance en Dieu,
qu’ils n’oublient pas comment Dieu a agi
et qu’ils observent ses commandements,
8 qu’ils ne ressemblent pas à leurs ancêtres,
génération indocile et rebelle,
génération au cœur trop inconstant,
dont l’esprit n’était pas fidèle à Dieu.
9 Les hommes d’Ephraïm, armés de l’arc,
ont tourné le dos, au jour du combat.
10 Ils n’ont pas respecté ╵l’alliance de Dieu,
ils ont refusé de suivre sa Loi[d].
11 Ils ont oublié ses exploits
et les hauts faits opérés sous leurs yeux.
12 Devant leurs pères, Dieu avait fait des prodiges
aux champs de Tsoân[e], au pays d’Egypte.
13 Il a fendu la mer, et il les a fait traverser,
il a dressé les eaux tout comme un mur[f].
14 Il les guidait, le jour par la nuée,
et la nuit, par la lumière d’un feu[g].
15 Il a fendu des rochers au désert,
et les a abreuvés de torrents d’eau[h].
16 Du roc, il a fait jaillir des rivières,
il en a fait sortir l’eau comme un fleuve.
17 Mais ils péchaient contre lui sans arrêt,
ils bravaient le Très-Haut dans le désert[i].
18 Dans leur cœur, ils ont mis Dieu au défi
en réclamant à manger à leur goût[j].
19 Ils ont tenu des propos contre lui,
disant : « Dieu pourrait-il
dresser une table dans le désert[k] ? »
20 C’est ainsi qu’il a frappé le rocher,
l’eau a coulé, des torrents ont jailli.
« Pourrait-il aussi nous donner du pain
ou procurer de la viande à son peuple ? »
21 L’Eternel entendit, il s’emporta,
et un feu s’alluma contre Jacob :
sa colère éclata contre Israël,
22 car ils n’avaient pas fait confiance à Dieu,
ils n’avaient pas compté sur son secours.
23 Il donna ordre aux nuages d’en haut
et il ouvrit les écluses du ciel.
24 Pour les nourrir, il fit pleuvoir sur eux la manne
et il leur donna le froment du ciel.
25 Chacun mangea de ce pain des puissants[l],
Dieu leur fournit à satiété des vivres.
26 Il fit souffler le vent d’est dans le ciel,
et par sa force, il fit venir le vent du sud.
27 Il fit pleuvoir de la viande sur eux, ╵aussi abondante que la poussière.
Il fit tomber une nuée d’oiseaux ╵aussi nombreux que le sable des mers.
28 Il les fit tomber au milieu du camp,
autour du lieu où se dressaient leurs tentes.
29 Ils en mangèrent jusqu’à satiété.
Dieu leur avait servi ce qu’ils voulaient.
30 Mais leur envie n’était pas assouvie,
ils avaient encore la viande à la bouche
31 que la colère de Dieu éclata contre eux.
Alors il frappa les plus vigoureux,
abattant les jeunes gens d’Israël.
32 Malgré cela, ils ont péché encore,
ils n’ont pas eu foi, malgré ses prodiges[m].
33 Il fit s’évanouir leurs jours ╵de façon lamentable,
et terminer leurs années dans l’angoisse[n].
34 Dieu les frappait, ils se tournaient vers lui,
ils revenaient à lui, ╵en le suppliant instamment,
35 se souvenant qu’il était leur rocher,
que le Dieu très-haut était leur libérateur.
36 Mais s’ils priaient, c’était pour le tromper :
les propos qu’ils lui tenaient n’étaient pas sincères,
37 car leur cœur n’était pas droit envers lui,
à son alliance, ils n’étaient pas fidèles.
38 Lui, cependant, rempli de compassion,
leur pardonnait au lieu de les détruire,
et, bien souvent, détournait sa colère,
ne voulant pas déchaîner toute sa fureur.
39 Il considérait qu’ils étaient fragiles :
un souffle qui passe et ne revient plus.
40 Que de fois ils se sont rebellés contre lui ╵dans le désert
et l’ont offensé dans les lieux arides[o] !
41 A nouveau, ils mettaient Dieu au défi
et ils attristaient le Saint d’Israël.
42 Car ils oubliaient son œuvre puissante :
comment il les avait sauvés de l’oppresseur,
43 en Egypte, il avait fait des miracles,
et, au pays de Tsoân, des prodiges[p],
44 canaux et rivières changés en sang,
nul ne pouvait plus s’y désaltérer[q],
45 mouches venimeuses qui les piquaient[r],
grenouilles qui causaient leur ruine[s],
46 leurs récoltes livrées aux sauterelles
et le fruit de leur labeur aux criquets[t],
47 leurs vignes ravagées par des grêlons
et leurs figuiers sous les effets du gel,
48 leurs troupeaux abandonnés à la grêle
et leur bétail décimé par la foudre.
49 Il déchaîna contre eux son ardente colère,
son courroux, sa fureur, et les mit en détresse,
en envoyant une armée d’anges de malheur.
50 Il donna libre cours à sa colère,
et il ne leur épargna pas la mort.
Au contraire, il les livra à la peste.
51 Il frappa tous les fils aînés d’Egypte,
les premiers fruits de leur virilité[u] ╵dans les logis de Cham[v].
52 Comme un troupeau, il fit sortir son peuple
et il les conduisit dans le désert, ╵tout comme un berger conduit ses brebis[w].
53 Il les conduisit en sécurité, ╵les préservant de tout sujet de crainte,
et la mer engloutit leurs ennemis[x].
54 Il les fit ensuite venir ╵sur son territoire sacré,
il les conduisit jusqu’à la montagne[y] ╵qu’il s’était par lui-même acquise[z].
55 Il chassa devant eux des peuples étrangers,
et il attribua à chacun par le sort, ╵une part du pays en patrimoine.
Il installa les tribus d’Israël ╵dans les demeures des Cananéens.
56 Mais ils ont voulu forcer la main ╵au Dieu très-haut
et ils se sont rebellés contre lui.
Ils n’ont pas respecté ses lois[aa].
57 Ils se sont dérobés ╵et se sont montrés traîtres ╵tout comme leurs ancêtres.
On ne pouvait pas leur faire confiance ╵pas plus qu’à l’arc dont la flèche dévie.
58 Ils l’ont irrité avec leurs hauts lieux[ab],
par leurs idoles, ils ont provoqué ╵sa vive indignation.
59 Dieu l’entendit : il se mit en colère
et il prit Israël en aversion.
60 Il délaissa sa maison de Silo[ac],
le tabernacle, ╵où il résidait parmi les humains.
61 Il laissa partir en captivité ╵le coffre sacré, trône de sa force,
et livra aux ennemis sa splendeur[ad].
62 En colère contre les siens,
il abandonna son peuple à l’épée.
63 Le feu consuma ses adolescents,
et l’on ne chanta plus l’éloge ╵de ses jeunes mariées[ae].
64 Ses prêtres périrent sous les coups de l’épée,
ses veuves n’eurent pas droit à des larmes[af].
65 Mais, tout à coup, l’Eternel intervint,
tel un dormeur sortant de sa torpeur,
tel un guerrier exalté par le vin.
66 Il frappa ses ennemis à revers,
il les couvrit d’une honte éternelle.
67 Il écarta la maison de Joseph[ag],
ne choisit pas la tribu d’Ephraïm.
68 Mais il choisit la tribu de Juda,
le mont Sion qu’il prit en affection.
69 C’est là qu’il édifia son sanctuaire ╵tels les lieux élevés
comme la terre établie pour toujours.
70 Il a choisi son serviteur David
et il l’a tiré de ses bergeries[ah].
71 Il l’a pris du milieu de ses brebis
pour qu’il soit berger de Jacob, son peuple,
et d’Israël qui est sa possession.
72 David fut pour eux un berger intègre
qui les guida d’une main avisée.
