69 O Diyos! Ako'y iyong sagipin!
Sapagkat ang tubig hanggang sa aking kaluluwa ay nakarating.
2 Ako'y lumulubog sa malalim na putikan,
ang mga paa ay walang tuntungan;
ako'y dumating sa tubig na malalim,
at ang baha ay tumatangay sa akin.
3 Ako'y pagod na sa pagdaing ko;
ang lalamunan ko ay nanuyo.
Ang mga mata ko'y lumalabo
sa kahihintay sa aking Diyos.
4 Higit(A) kaysa mga buhok ng aking ulo ang bilang
ng mga namumuhi sa akin ng walang kadahilanan;
ang mga nais pumuksa sa akin ay makapangyarihan na mga kaaway kong may kamalian.
Anumang hindi ko naman ninakaw ay dapat kong isauli.
5 O Diyos, nalalaman mo ang kahangalan ko;
ang mga pagkakamaling nagawa ko'y hindi lingid sa iyo.
6 Huwag nawang mapahiya dahil sa akin ang mga umaasa sa iyo,
O Panginoong Diyos ng mga hukbo;
huwag nawang malagay sa kasiraang-puri dahil sa akin ang mga nagsisihanap sa iyo,
O Diyos ng Israel.
7 Sapagkat alang-alang sa iyo ay nagbata ako ng kasiraan,
at tumakip sa aking mukha ang kahihiyan.
8 Sa aking mga kapatid ako'y naging isang dayuhan,
sa mga anak ng aking ina ay isang taga-ibang bayan.
9 Sapagkat(B) ang pagmamalasakit sa iyong bahay ang sa aki'y umubos,
at ang mga paghamak ng mga sa iyo'y humahamak sa akin ay nahulog.
10 Nang umiyak ako sa aking kaluluwa na may pag-aayuno,
iyon ay naging kahihiyan ko.
11 Nang magsuot ako ng damit-sako,
naging bukambibig nila ako.
12 Ang mga umuupo sa pintuang-bayan, ang pinag-uusapan ay ako,
at ako ang awit ng mga lasenggo.
13 Ngunit para sa akin, ang dalangin ko'y sa iyo, O Panginoon,
sa isang kaaya-ayang panahon, O Diyos,
sa kasaganaan ng iyong tapat na pag-ibig, sagutin mo ako.
Sa pamamagitan ng iyong tapat na tulong,
14 sagipin mo ako sa paglubog sa putikan,
at huwag mo akong hayaang lumubog;
iligtas mo ako sa aking mga kaaway
mula sa tubig na may kalaliman.
15 Ang baha nawa'y huwag akong tangayin,
ni ng kalaliman ako man ay lamunin,
ni isara ng Hukay ang kanyang bunganga sa akin.
16 O Panginoon, ako'y iyong sagutin, sapagkat ang iyong tapat na pag-ibig ay mabuti;
ayon sa iyong masaganang awa, bumalik ka sa akin.
17 Huwag mong ikubli ang iyong mukha sa iyong lingkod;
sapagkat ako'y nasa kahirapan, magmadali kang sa aki'y sumagot.
18 O lumapit ka sa aking kaluluwa, at ako'y iyong tubusin,
dahil sa aking mga kaaway ako'y iyong palayain!
19 Nalalaman mo ang aking kasiraan,
ang aking kahihiyan at aking kakutyaan;
lahat ng aking mga kaaway ay nasa harapan mo.
20 Ang mga paghamak sa aking puso ay sumira;
kaya't ako'y may sakit.
Ako'y naghanap ng habag, ngunit wala naman;
at ng mga mang-aaliw, ngunit wala akong natagpuan.
21 Binigyan(C) nila ako ng lason bilang pagkain,
at sa aking uhaw ay binigyan nila ako ng sukang iinumin.
22 Ang(D) kanila nawang sariling hapag na nasa harapan nila ay maging isang bitag;
kung sila'y nasa kapayapaan, ito nawa'y maging isang patibong.
23 Lumabo nawa ang kanilang mga mata, upang sila'y huwag makakita;
at papanginigin mo ang kanilang mga balakang sa tuwina.
24 Ibuhos mo sa kanila ang iyong poot,
at ang iyong nag-aalab na galit sa kanila nawa'y umabot.
25 Ang(E) kanilang kampo nawa'y maging mapanglaw;
sa kanilang mga tolda wala sanang tumahan.
26 Sapagkat kanilang inuusig siya na iyong hinataw,
at isinaysay nila ang sakit nila na iyong sinugatan.
27 Dagdagan mo ng kasamaan ang kanilang kasamaan;
at huwag nawa silang dumating sa iyong katuwiran.
28 Mapawi(F) nawa sila sa aklat ng mga nabubuhay,
huwag nawa silang makasama ng matuwid sa talaan.
29 Ngunit ako'y nagdadalamhati at nasasaktan,
ang iyo nawang pagliligtas, O Diyos, ang magtaas sa akin!
30 Sa pamamagitan ng awit ang pangalan ng Diyos ay aking pupurihin,
at sa pasasalamat siya'y aking dadakilain.
31 Ito'y makakalugod sa Panginoon ng higit kaysa baka,
o sa toro na may mga sungay at mga paa.
32 Nakita ito ng mapagkumbaba at sila'y natuwa,
ikaw na naghahanap sa Diyos, ang puso mo'y muling mabuhay nawa.
33 Sapagkat dinirinig ng Panginoon ang kinakapos,
at hindi hinahamak ang sariling kanya na nakagapos.
34 Purihin nawa siya ng langit at ng lupa,
ng mga dagat, at ng lahat ng gumagalaw roon.
35 Sapagkat ililigtas ng Diyos ang Zion,
at muling itatayo ang mga lunsod ng Juda;
at ang mga lingkod niya ay maninirahan doon, at aangkinin iyon;
36 ang mga anak ng kanyang mga lingkod ang magmamana niyon,
at silang umiibig sa kanyang pangalan ay maninirahan doon.

2 Ako'y lumulubog sa malalim na burak na walang tayuan:
Ako'y lumulubog sa malalim na tubig, na tinatabunan ako ng agos.
3 Ako'y hapo sa aking daing; ang lalamunan ko'y tuyo:
Ang mga mata ko'y nangangalumata habang hinihintay ko ang aking Dios.
4 (B)Silang nangagtatanim sa akin ng walang anomang kadahilanan ay higit kay sa mga buhok ng aking ulo:
Silang ibig maghiwalay sa akin, na mga kaaway kong may kamalian, ay mga makapangyarihan:

5 Oh Dios, kilala mo ang kamangmangan ko;
At ang mga kasalanan ko'y hindi lihim sa iyo.
6 Huwag mangapahiya dahil sa akin ang nangaghihintay sa iyo,
Oh Panginoong Dios ng mga hukbo:
Huwag mangalagay sa kasiraang puri dahil sa akin ang nagsisihanap sa iyo, Oh Dios ng Israel.
7 Sapagka't (D)dahil sa iyo ay nagdala ako ng kadustaan;
Kahihiyan ay tumakip sa aking mukha.
8 (E)Ako'y naging iba sa aking mga kapatid,
At taga ibang lupa sa mga anak ng aking ina.
9 (F)Sapagka't napuspos ako ng sikap sa iyong bahay;
(G)At ang mga pagduwahagi nila na nagsisiduwahagi sa iyo ay nangahulog sa akin.
10 Pag umiiyak ako at pinarurusahan ko ng pagaayuno ang aking kaluluwa,
Yao'y pagkaduwahagi sa akin.
11 Nang magsuot ako ng kayong magaspang,
Ay naging kawikaan ako sa kanila.
12 Pinag-uusapan ako nilang nangauupo sa pintuang-bayan;
At ako ang awit ng mga lango.
13 Nguni't tungkol sa akin, ang dalangin ko'y sa iyo, Oh Panginoon, (H)sa isang kalugodlugod na panahon:
Oh Dios, sa karamihan ng iyong kagandahang-loob,
14 (I)Iligtas mo ako sa burak, at huwag mo akong ilubog:
Maligtas ako sa kanila na nangagtatanim sa akin, at sa malalim na tubig.
15 Huwag akong tangayin ng baha,
Ni lamunin man ako ng kalaliman:
At huwag takpan ng (J)hukay ang kaniyang bunganga sa akin.
16 Sagutin mo ako, Oh Panginoon; sapagka't ang iyong kagandahang-loob ay mabuti:
(K)Ayon sa karamihan ng iyong mga malumanay na kaawaan ay bumalik ka sa akin.
17 At huwag mong ikubli ang iyong mukha sa iyong lingkod;
Sapagka't ako'y nasa kahirapan; sagutin mo akong madali.
18 Lumapit ka sa aking kaluluwa, at tubusin mo:
Iligtas mo ako dahil sa aking mga kaaway.
19 Talastas mo ang (L)aking kadustaan, at ang aking (M)kahihiyan, at ang aking kasiraang puri:
Ang aking mga kaaway, ay pawang nangasa harap mo.
20 Kaduwahagihan ay sumira ng aking puso; at (N)ako'y lipos ng kabigatan ng loob:
At ako'y naghintay na may maawa sa akin, nguni't wala;
At mga mangaaliw, nguni't wala akong masumpungan.
21 Binigyan naman nila ako ng pagkaing mapait;
(O)At sa aking kauhawan ay binigyan nila ako ng suka na mainom.
22 (P)Maging lalang sa harap nila ang kanilang dulang;
At maging isang silo kung sila'y nasa kapayapaan.
23 (Q)Manglabo ang kanilang mga mata, na sila'y huwag makakita;
At papanginigin mong palagi ang kanilang mga balakang.
24 (R)Ibugso mo ang iyong galit sa kanila,
At datnan sila ng kabangisan ng iyong galit.
25 (S)Magiba ang tahanan nila;
Walang tumahan sa kanilang mga tolda.
26 Sapagka't kanilang hinabol siya na iyong sinaktan,
At (T)sinaysay nila ang damdam niyaong iyong sinugatan.
27 (U)At dagdagan mo ng kasamaan ang kanilang kasamaan:
At huwag silang masok sa iyong katuwiran.
28 (V)Mapawi sila sa aklat ng buhay,
(W)At huwag masulat na kasama ng matuwid.
29 Nguni't ako'y dukha at mapanglaw:
Sa pamamagitan ng pagliligtas mo, Oh Dios, ay iahon mo nawa ako.
30 Aking pupurihin ng awit ang pangalan ng Dios,
At dadakilain ko siya ng pasalamat.
31 At kalulugdan ng Panginoon na higit kay sa isang baka,
O sa toro na may mga sungay at mga paa.
32 (X)Nakita ng mga maamo, at nangatuwa:
(Y)Mabuhay ang puso, ninyong nagsisihanap sa Dios.
33 Sapagka't dinidinig ng Panginoon ang mapagkailangan,

3 I am (D)weary with my calling out; my throat is parched;
My (E)eyes fail while I wait for my God.
4 Those (F)who hate me without cause are more than the hairs of my head;
Those who would [d]destroy me (G)are powerful, being wrongfully my enemies;
(H)What I did not steal, I then have to restore.
5 O God, it is You who knows (I)my folly,
And [e](J)all my guilt is not hidden from You.
6 May those who hope for You not (K)be ashamed through me, O Lord Yahweh of hosts;
May those who seek You not be dishonored through me, O God of Israel,
7 Because (L)for Your sake I have borne reproach;
(M)Dishonor has covered my face.
8 I have become (N)estranged [f]from my brothers
And a foreigner to my mother’s sons.
9 For (O)zeal for Your house has consumed me,
And (P)the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.

It became my reproach.

12 Those who (T)dwell at the gate moan about me,

13 But as for me, my prayer is to You, O Yahweh, (V)at an acceptable time;

Answer me with the truth of Your salvation.
14 Deliver me from the (X)mire and do not let me sink;

Nor the deep swallow me up,

69 Deliver me, O God,
for the water has reached my neck.[c]
2 I sink into the deep mire
where there is no solid ground;[d]
I am in[e] deep water,
and the current overpowers me.
3 I am exhausted from shouting for help.
My throat is sore;[f]
my eyes grow tired from looking for my God.[g]
4 Those who hate me without cause
are more numerous than the hairs of my head.
Those who want to destroy me,
my enemies for no reason,[h]
outnumber me.[i]
They make me repay what I did not steal.[j]
5 O God, you are aware of my foolish sins;[k]
my guilt is not hidden from you.[l]
6 Let none who rely on you be disgraced because of me,
O Sovereign Lord of Heaven’s Armies.[m]
Let none who seek you be ashamed because of me,
O God of Israel.
7 For I suffer[n] humiliation for your sake[o]
and am thoroughly disgraced.[p]
8 My own brothers treat me like a stranger;
they act as if I were a foreigner.[q]

I endure the insults of those who insult you.[u]
10 I weep and refrain from eating food,[v]
which causes others to insult me.[w]
11 I wear sackcloth
and they ridicule me.[x]
12 Those who sit at the city gate gossip about me;
drunkards mock me in their songs.[y]
13 O Lord, may you hear my prayer and be favorably disposed to me.[z]
O God, because of your great loyal love,
answer me with your faithful deliverance.[aa]
14 Rescue me from the mud. Don’t let me sink.
Deliver me[ab] from those who hate me,
from the deep water.
15 Don’t let the current overpower me.
Don’t let the deep swallow me up.

Because of your great compassion, turn toward me.

with horns and hooves.
32 The oppressed look on—let them rejoice.
You who seek God,[bf] may you be encouraged.[bg]
33 For the Lord listens to the needy;
he does not despise his captive people.[bh]
34 Let the heavens and the earth praise him,
along with the seas and everything that swims in them.
35 For God will deliver Zion
and rebuild the cities of Judah,

36 The descendants of his servants will inherit it,

- Psalm 69:20 tn Heb “and I wait for sympathy, but there is none.” The form נוּד (nud) is an infinitive functioning as a verbal noun:, “sympathizing.” Some suggest emending the form to a participle נָד (nad, “one who shows sympathy”). The verb נוּד (nud) also has the nuance “show sympathy” in Job 2:11; 42:11 and Isa 51:19.
- Psalm 69:21 tn According to BDB 912 s.v. II רֹאשׁ the term can mean “a bitter and poisonous plant.”
- Psalm 69:21 sn John 19:28-30 appears to understand Jesus’ experience on the cross as a fulfillment of this passage (or Ps 22:15). See the study note on the word “thirsty” in John 19:28.
- Psalm 69:22 tc Heb “and to the friends for a snare.” The plural of שָׁלוֹם (shalom, “peace”) is used in Ps 55:20 of one’s “friends.” If the reading of the MT is retained here, the term depicts the psalmist’s enemies as a close-knit group of friends who are bound together by their hatred for the psalmist. Some prefer to revocalize the text as וּלְשִׁלּוּמִים (uleshillumim, “and for retribution”). In this case the noun stands parallel to פַּח (pakh, “trap”) and מוֹקֵשׁ (moqesh, “snare”), and one might translate, “may their dining table become a trap before them, [a means of] retribution and a snare” (cf. NIV).
- Psalm 69:23 tn Heb “may their eyes be darkened from seeing.”
- Psalm 69:23 tn Heb “make their hips shake continually.”
- Psalm 69:24 tn Heb “anger.” “Anger” here refers metonymically to divine judgment, which is the practical effect of God’s anger.
- Psalm 69:24 tn Heb “the rage of your anger.” The phrase “rage of your anger” employs an appositional genitive. Synonyms are joined in a construct relationship to emphasize the single idea. - Psalm 69:25 tn Heb “in their tents may there not be one who dwells.”sn In Acts 1:20 Peter applies the language of this verse to Judas’ experience. By changing the pronouns from plural to singular, he is able to apply the ancient curse, pronounced against the psalmist’s enemies, to Judas in particular.
- Psalm 69:26 tn Or “persecute”; Heb “chase.”
- Psalm 69:26 tn Heb “for you, the one whom you strike, they chase.”
- Psalm 69:26 tn Heb “they announce the pain of your wounded ones” (i.e., “the ones whom you wounded,” as the parallel line makes clear).sn The psalmist is innocent of the false charges made by his enemies (v. 4), but he is also aware of his sinfulness (v. 5) and admits that he experiences divine discipline (v. 26) despite his devotion to God (v. 9). Here he laments that his enemies take advantage of such divine discipline by harassing and slandering him. They “kick him while he’s down,” as the expression goes.
- Psalm 69:27 tn Heb “place sin upon their sin.”
- Psalm 69:27 tn Heb “let them not come into your vindication.”
- Psalm 69:28 tn Heb “let them be wiped out of the scroll of the living.”sn The phrase the scroll of the living occurs only here in the OT. It pictures a scroll or census list containing the names of the citizens of a community. When an individual died, that person’s name was removed from the list. So this curse is a very vivid way of asking that the enemies die.
- Psalm 69:28 tn Heb “and with the godly let them not be written.”sn Do not let their names be listed with the godly. This curse pictures a scroll in which God records the names of his loyal followers. The psalmist makes the point that his enemies have no right to be included in this list of the godly.
- Psalm 69:29 tn Heb “your deliverance, O God, may it protect me.”
- Psalm 69:30 tn Heb “I will praise the name of God with a song.”
- Psalm 69:30 tn Heb “I will magnify him with thanks.”
- Psalm 69:32 sn You who seek God refers to those who seek to have a relationship with God by obeying and worshiping him (see Ps 53:2).
- Psalm 69:32 tn Heb “may your heart[s] live.” See Ps 22:26.
- Psalm 69:33 tn Heb “his prisoners he does not despise.”
- Psalm 69:35 tn Heb “they”; the referent (God’s people) has been specified in the translation for clarity.
- Psalm 69:35 tn Heb “it.” The third feminine singular pronominal suffix probably refers to “Zion” (see Pss 48:12; 102:14); thus the referent has been specified in the translation for clarity.
- Psalm 69:36 tn Heb “the lovers of his name.” The phrase refers to those who are loyal to God (cf. v. 35). See Pss 5:11; 119:132; Isa 56:6.
- Psalm 69:36 sn Verses 35-36 appear to be an addition to the psalm from the time of the exile. The earlier lament reflects an individual’s situation, while these verses seem to reflect a communal application of it.
