26 Lorsque Jésus eut achevé tous ces discours, il dit à ses disciples:
2 Vous savez que la Pâque a lieu dans deux jours, et que le Fils de l'homme sera livré pour être crucifié.
3 Alors les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens du peuple se réunirent dans la cour du souverain sacrificateur, appelé Caïphe;
4 et ils délibérèrent sur les moyens d'arrêter Jésus par ruse, et de le faire mourir.
5 Mais ils dirent: Que ce ne soit pas pendant la fête, afin qu'il n'y ait pas de tumulte parmi le peuple.
6 Comme Jésus était à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux,
7 une femme s'approcha de lui, tenant un vase d'albâtre, qui renfermait un parfum de grand prix; et, pendant qu'il était à table, elle répandit le parfum sur sa tête.
8 Les disciples, voyant cela, s'indignèrent, et dirent: A quoi bon cette perte?
9 On aurait pu vendre ce parfum très cher, et en donner le prix aux pauvres.
10 Jésus, s'en étant aperçu, leur dit: Pourquoi faites-vous de la peine à cette femme? Elle a fait une bonne action à mon égard;
11 car vous avez toujours des pauvres avec vous, mais vous ne m'avez pas toujours.
12 En répandant ce parfum sur mon corps, elle l'a fait pour ma sépulture.
13 Je vous le dis en vérité, partout où cette bonne nouvelle sera prêchée, dans le monde entier, on racontera aussi en mémoire de cette femme ce qu'elle a fait.
14 Alors l'un des douze, appelé Judas Iscariot, alla vers les principaux sacrificateurs,
15 et dit: Que voulez-vous me donner, et je vous le livrerai? Et ils lui payèrent trente pièces d'argent.
16 Depuis ce moment, il cherchait une occasion favorable pour livrer Jésus.
17 Le premier jour des pains sans levain, les disciples s'adressèrent à Jésus, pour lui dire: Où veux-tu que nous te préparions le repas de la Pâque?
18 Il répondit: Allez à la ville chez un tel, et vous lui direz: Le maître dit: Mon temps est proche; je ferai chez toi la Pâque avec mes disciples.
19 Les disciples firent ce que Jésus leur avait ordonné, et ils préparèrent la Pâque.
20 Le soir étant venu, il se mit à table avec les douze.
21 Pendant qu'ils mangeaient, il dit: Je vous le dis en vérité, l'un de vous me livrera.
22 Ils furent profondément attristés, et chacun se mit à lui dire: Est-ce moi, Seigneur?
23 Il répondit: Celui qui a mis avec moi la main dans le plat, c'est celui qui me livrera.
24 Le Fils de l'homme s'en va, selon ce qui est écrit de lui. Mais malheur à l'homme par qui le Fils de l'homme est livré! Mieux vaudrait pour cet homme qu'il ne fût pas né.
25 Judas, qui le livrait, prit la parole et dit: Est-ce moi, Rabbi? Jésus lui répondit: Tu l'as dit.
26 Pendant qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus prit du pain; et, après avoir rendu grâces, il le rompit, et le donna aux disciples, en disant: Prenez, mangez, ceci est mon corps.
27 Il prit ensuite une coupe; et, après avoir rendu grâces, il la leur donna, en disant: Buvez-en tous;
28 car ceci est mon sang, le sang de l'alliance, qui est répandu pour plusieurs, pour la rémission des péchés.
29 Je vous le dis, je ne boirai plus désormais de ce fruit de la vigne, jusqu'au jour où j'en boirai du nouveau avec vous dans le royaume de mon Père.
30 Après voir chanté les cantiques, ils se rendirent à la montagne des oliviers.
31 Alors Jésus leur dit: Je serai pour vous tous, cette nuit, une occasion de chute; car il est écrit: Je frapperai le berger, et les brebis du troupeau seront dispersées.
32 Mais, après que je serai ressuscité, je vous précèderai en Galilée.
33 Pierre, prenant la parole, lui dit: Quand tu serais pour tous une occasion de chute, tu ne le seras jamais pour moi.
34 Jésus lui dit: Je te le dis en vérité, cette nuit même, avant que le coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois.
35 Pierre lui répondit: Quand il me faudrait mourir avec toi, je ne te renierai pas. Et tous les disciples dirent la même chose.
36 Là-dessus, Jésus alla avec eux dans un lieu appelé Gethsémané, et il dit aux disciples: Asseyez-vous ici, pendant que je m'éloignerai pour prier.
37 Il prit avec lui Pierre et les deux fils de Zébédée, et il commença à éprouver de la tristesse et des angoisses.
38 Il leur dit alors: Mon âme est triste jusqu'à la mort; restez ici, et veillez avec moi.
39 Puis, ayant fait quelques pas en avant, il se jeta sur sa face, et pria ainsi: Mon Père, s'il est possible, que cette coupe s'éloigne de moi! Toutefois, non pas ce que je veux, mais ce que tu veux.
40 Et il vint vers les disciples, qu'il trouva endormis, et il dit à Pierre: Vous n'avez donc pu veiller une heure avec moi!
41 Veillez et priez, afin que vous ne tombiez pas dans la tentation; l'esprit es bien disposé, mais la chair est faible.
42 Il s'éloigna une seconde fois, et pria ainsi: Mon Père, s'il n'est pas possible que cette coupe s'éloigne sans que je la boive, que ta volonté soit faite!
43 Il revint, et les trouva encore endormis; car leurs yeux étaient appesantis.
44 Il les quitta, et, s'éloignant, il pria pour la troisième fois, répétant les mêmes paroles.
45 Puis il alla vers ses disciples, et leur dit: Vous dormez maintenant, et vous vous reposez! Voici, l'heure est proche, et le Fils de l'homme est livré aux mains des pécheurs.
46 Levez-vous, allons; voici, celui qui me livre s'approche.
47 Comme il parlait encore, voici, Judas, l'un des douze, arriva, et avec lui une foule nombreuse armée d'épées et de bâtons, envoyée par les principaux sacrificateurs et par les anciens du peuple.
48 Celui qui le livrait leur avait donné ce signe: Celui que je baiserai, c'est lui; saisissez-le.
49 Aussitôt, s'approchant de Jésus, il dit: Salut, Rabbi! Et il le baisa.
50 Jésus lui dit: Mon ami, ce que tu es venu faire, fais-le. Alors ces gens s'avancèrent, mirent la main sur Jésus, et le saisirent.
51 Et voici, un de ceux qui étaient avec Jésus étendit la main, et tira son épée; il frappa le serviteur du souverain sacrificateur, et lui emporta l'oreille.
52 Alors Jésus lui dit: Remets ton épée à sa place; car tous ceux qui prendront l'épée périront par l'épée.
53 Penses-tu que je ne puisse pas invoquer mon Père, qui me donnerait à l'instant plus de douze légions d'anges?
54 Comment donc s'accompliraient les Écritures, d'après lesquelles il doit en être ainsi?
55 En ce moment, Jésus dit à la foule: Vous êtes venus, comme après un brigand, avec des épées et des bâtons, pour vous emparer de moi. J'étais tous les jours assis parmi vous, enseignant dans le temple, et vous ne m'avez pas saisi.
56 Mais tout cela est arrivé afin que les écrits des prophètes fussent accomplis. Alors tous les disciples l'abandonnèrent, et prirent la fuite.
57 Ceux qui avaient saisi Jésus l'emmenèrent chez le souverain sacrificateur Caïphe, où les scribes et les anciens étaient assemblés.
58 Pierre le suivit de loin jusqu'à la cour du souverain sacrificateur, y entra, et s'assit avec les serviteurs, pour voir comment cela finirait.
59 Les principaux sacrificateurs et tout le sanhédrin cherchaient quelque faux témoignage contre Jésus, suffisant pour le faire mourir.
60 Mais ils n'en trouvèrent point, quoique plusieurs faux témoins se fussent présentés. Enfin, il en vint deux, qui dirent:
61 Celui-ci a dit: Je puis détruire le temple de Dieu, et le rebâtir en trois jours.
62 Le souverain sacrificateur se leva, et lui dit: Ne réponds-tu rien? Qu'est-ce que ces hommes déposent contre toi?
63 Jésus garda le silence. Et le souverain sacrificateur, prenant la parole, lui dit: Je t'adjure, par le Dieu vivant, de nous dire si tu es le Christ, le Fils de Dieu.
64 Jésus lui répondit: Tu l'as dit. De plus, je vous le déclare, vous verrez désormais le Fils de l'homme assis à la droite de la puissance de Dieu, et venant sur les nuées du ciel.
65 Alors le souverain sacrificateur déchira ses vêtements, disant: Il a blasphémé! Qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoins? Voici, vous venez d'entendre son blasphème. Que vous en semble?
66 Ils répondirent: Il mérite la mort.
67 Là-dessus, ils lui crachèrent au visage, et lui donnèrent des coups de poing et des soufflets en disant:
68 Christ, prophétise; dis-nous qui t'a frappé.
69 Cependant, Pierre était assis dehors dans la cour. Une servante s'approcha de lui, et dit: Toi aussi, tu étais avec Jésus le Galiléen.
70 Mais il le nia devant tous, disant: Je ne sais ce que tu veux dire.
71 Comme il se dirigeait vers la porte, une autre servante le vit, et dit à ceux qui se trouvaient là; Celui-ci était aussi avec Jésus de Nazareth.
72 Il le nia de nouveau, avec serment: Je ne connais pas cet homme.
73 Peu après, ceux qui étaient là, s'étant approchés, dirent à Pierre: Certainement tu es aussi de ces gens-là, car ton langage te fait reconnaître.
74 Alors il se mit à faire des imprécations et à jurer: Je ne connais pas cet homme. Aussitôt le coq chanta.
75 Et Pierre se souvint de la parole que Jésus avait dite: Avant que le coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois. Et étant sorti, il pleura amèrement.

26 És mikor mindezeket a beszédeket elvégezte vala Jézus, monda az õ tanítványainak:
2 Tudjátok, hogy két nap mulva a husvétnak ünnepe lészen, és az embernek Fia elárultatik, hogy megfeszíttessék.
3 Akkor egybegyûlének a fõpapok, az írástudók és a nép vénei a fõpap házába, a kit Kajafásnak hívtak,
4 És tanácsot tartának, hogy Jézust álnoksággal megfogják és megöljék.
5 De azt mondják vala: Ne az ünnepen: hogy zendülés ne legyen a nép között.
6 És mikor Jézus Bethániában, a poklos Simon házánál vala,
7 Méne õ hozzá egy asszony, a kinél vala drága kenetnek alabástrom szelenczéje, és az õ fejére tölté, a mint az asztalnál ül vala.
8 Látván pedig ezt az õ tanítványai, bosszankodának, mondván: Mire való ez a tékozlás?
9 Mert eladhatták volna ezt a kenetet nagy áron, és adhatták volna a szegényeknek.
10 Mikor pedig ezt eszébe vette Jézus, monda nékik: Miért bántjátok ezt az asszonyt? hiszen jó dolgot cselekedett én velem.
11 Mert a szegények mindenkor veletek lesznek, de én nem leszek mindenkor veletek.
12 Mert hogy õ ezt a kenetet testemre töltötte, az én temetésemre nézve cselekedte azt.
13 Bizony mondom néktek: Valahol az egész világon prédikáltatik az evangyéliom, a mit ez én velem cselekedék, az is hirdettetik az õ emlékezetére.
14 Akkor a tizenkettõ közül egy, a kit Iskariótes Júdásnak hívtak, a fõpapokhoz menvén,
15 Monda: Mit akartok nékem adni, és én kezetekbe adom õt? Azok pedig rendelének néki harmincz ezüst pénzt.
16 És ettõl fogva alkalmat keres vala, hogy elárulja õt.
17 A kovásztalan kenyerek elsõ napján pedig Jézushoz menének a tanítványok, mondván: Hol akarod, hogy megkészítsük néked ételedre a husvéti bárányt?
18 Õ pedig monda: Menjetek el a városba ama bizonyos emberhez, és ezt mondjátok néki: A Mester üzeni: Az én idõm közel van; nálad tartom meg a husvétot tanítványaimmal.
19 És úgy cselekedének a tanítványok, a mint Jézus parancsolta vala nékik; és elkészíték a husvéti bárányt.
20 Mikor pedig beestveledék, letelepszik vala a tizenkettõvel,
21 És a mikor esznek vala, monda: Bizony mondom néktek, ti közületek egy elárul engem.
22 És felettébb megszomorodva, kezdék mindannyian mondani néki: Én vagyok-é az, Uram?
23 Õ pedig felelvén, monda: A ki velem együtt mártja kezét a tálba, az árul el engem.
24 Az embernek Fia jóllehet elmegyen, a mint meg van írva felõle, de jaj annak az embernek, a ki az embernek Fiát elárulja; jobb volna annak az embernek, ha nem született volna.
25 Megszólalván Júdás is, a ki elárulja vala õt, monda: Én vagyok-é az, Mester? Monda néki: Te mondád.
26 Mikor pedig evének, vevé Jézus a kenyeret és hálákat adván, megtöré és adá a tanítványoknak, és monda: Vegyétek, egyétek; ez az én testem.
27 És vevén a poharat és hálákat adván, adá azoknak, ezt mondván: Igyatok ebbõl mindnyájan;
28 Mert ez az én vérem, az új szövetségnek vére, a mely sokakért kiontatik bûnöknek bocsánatára.
29 Mondom pedig néktek, hogy: Mostantól fogva nem iszom a szõlõtõkének ebbõl a termésébõl mind ama napig, a mikor újan iszom azt veletek az én Atyámnak országában.
30 És dícséretet énekelvén, kimenének az olajfák hegyére.
31 Akkor monda nékik Jézus: Mindnyájan ezen az éjszakán megbotránkoztok én bennem. Mert meg van írva: Megverem a pásztort, és elszélednek a nyájnak juhai.
32 De föltámadásom után elõttetek megyek majd Galileába.
33 Péter pedig felelvén, monda néki: Ha mindnyájan megbotránkoznak is te benned, én soha meg nem botránkozom.
34 Monda néki Jézus: Bizony mondom néked, ezen az éjszakán, mielõtt megszólal a kakas, háromszor megtagadsz engem.
35 Monda néki Péter: Ha meg kell is veled halnom, meg nem tagadlak téged. Hasonlóképen szólnak vala a többi tanítványok is.
36 Akkor elméne Jézus velök egy helyre, a melyet Gecsemánénak hívtak, és monda a tanítványoknak: Üljetek le itt, míg elmegyek és amott imádkozom.
37 És maga mellé vévén Pétert és Zebedeusnak két fiát, kezde szomorkodni és gyötrõdni.
38 Ekkor monda nékik: Felette igen szomorú az én lelkem mind halálig! maradjatok itt és vigyázzatok én velem.
39 És egy kissé elõre menve, arczra borula, könyörögvén és mondván: Atyám! ha lehetséges, múljék el tõlem e pohár; mindazáltal ne úgy legyen a mint én akarom, hanem a mint te.
40 Akkor méne a tanítványokhoz és aluva találá õket, és monda Péternek: Így nem birtatok vigyázni velem egy óráig sem!?
41 Vigyázzatok és imádkozzatok, hogy kísértetbe ne essetek; mert jóllehet a lélek kész, de a test erõtelen.
42 Ismét elméne másodszor is, és könyörge, mondván: Atyám! ha el nem múlhatik tõlem e pohár, hogy ki ne igyam, legyen meg a te akaratod.
43 És mikor visszatér vala, ismét aluva találá õket; mert megnehezedtek vala az õ szemeik.
44 És ott hagyva õket, ismét elméne és imádkozék harmadszor, ugyanazon beszéddel szólván.
45 Ekkor méne az õ tanítványaihoz, és monda nékik: Aludjatok immár és nyugodjatok. Ímé, elközelgett az óra, és az embernek Fia a bûnösök kezébe adatik.
46 Keljetek fel, menjünk! Ímé elközelgett, a ki engem elárul.
47 És még mikor beszél vala, ímé Júdás, egy a tizenkettõ közül, eljöve és vele együtt sok nép fegyverekkel és fustélyokkal, a fõpapoktól és a nép véneitõl.
48 A ki pedig õt elárulja vala, jelt ada nékik, mondván: A kit én majd megcsókolok, õ az, fogjátok meg õt.
49 És mindjárt Jézushoz lépvén, monda: Üdvöz légy Mester! és megcsókolá õt.
50 Jézus pedig monda néki: Barátom, miért jöttél? Akkor hozzámenvén, kezeiket Jézusra veték és megfogák õt.
51 És ímé egyik azok közül, a kik a Jézussal valának, kinyújtván kezét, szablyáját kirántá, és a fõpap szolgáját megcsapván, levágá annak egyik fülét.
52 Akkor monda néki Jézus: Tedd helyére szablyádat; mert a kik fegyvert fognak, fegyverrel kell veszniök.
53 Avagy azt gondolod-é, hogy nem kérhetném most az én Atyámat, hogy adjon ide mellém többet tizenkét sereg angyalnál?
54 De mi módon teljesednének be az írások, hogy így kell lenni?
55 Ugyanekkor monda Jézus a sokaságnak: Mint valami latorra, úgy jöttetek fegyverekkel és fustélyokkal, hogy megfogjatok engem? Naponként nálatok ültem, tanítván a templomban, és nem fogtatok meg engem.
56 Mindez pedig azért lõn, hogy beteljesedjenek a próféták írásai. Ekkor elhagyák õt a tanítványok mind, és elfutának.
57 Amazok pedig megfogván Jézust, vivék Kajafáshoz, a fõpaphoz, a hol az írástudók és a vének egybegyûltek vala.
58 Péter pedig követi vala õt távolról egész a fõpap pitvaráig; és bemenvén, ott ül vala a szolgákkal, hogy lássa a végét.
59 A fõpapok pedig és a vének és az egész tanács hamis bizonyságot keresnek vala Jézus ellen, hogy megölhessék õt;
60 És nem találának. És noha sok hamis tanú jött vala elõ, még sem találának. Utoljára pedig elõjövén két hamis tanú,
61 Monda: Ez azt mondta: Leronthatom az Isten templomát, és három nap alatt felépíthetem azt.
62 És fölkelvén a fõpap, monda néki: Semmit sem felelsz-é? Micsoda tanúbizonyságot tesznek ezek ellened?
63 Jézus pedig hallgat vala. És felelvén a fõpap, monda néki: Az élõ Istenre kényszerítelek téged, hogy mondd meg nékünk, ha te vagy-é a Krisztus, az Istennek Fia?
64 Monda néki Jézus: Te mondád. Sõt mondom néktek: Mostantól fogva meglátjátok az embernek Fiát ülni az Istennek hatalmas jobbján, és eljõni az égnek felhõiben.
65 Ekkor a fõpap megszaggatá a maga ruháit, és monda: Káromlást szólott. Mi szükségünk van még bizonyságokra? Ímé most hallottátok az õ káromlását.
66 Mit gondoltok? Azok pedig felelvén mondának: Méltó a halálra.
67 Akkor szemébe köpdösének és arczul csapdosák õt, némelyek pedig botokkal verék,
68 Mondván: Prófétáld meg nékünk Krisztus, kicsoda az, a ki üt téged?
69 Péter pedig künn ül vala az udvaron, és hozzá menvén egy szolgálóleány, monda: Te is a Galileabeli Jézussal valál.
70 Õ pedig mindenkinek hallatára megtagadá, mondván: Nem tudom, mit beszélsz.
71 Mikor pedig kiméne a tornáczra meglátá õt egy másik szolgálóleány, és monda az ott levõknek: Ez is a názáreti Jézussal vala.
72 És ismét megtagadá esküvéssel, hogy: Nem is ismerem ezt az embert.
73 Kevés idõ múlva pedig az ott álldogálók menének hozzá, és mondának Péternek: Bizony te is közülök való vagy; hiszen a te beszéded is elárul téged.
74 Ekkor átkozódni és esküdözni kezde, hogy: Nem ismerem ezt az embert. És a kakas azonnal megszólala.
75 És megemlékezék Péter a Jézus beszédérõl, ki ezt mondotta vala néki: Mielõtt a kakas szólana, háromszor megtagadsz engem; és kimenvén onnan, keservesen síra.

The Plot Against Jesus(A)
26 When Jesus had finished saying all these things,(B) he said to his disciples, 2 “As you know, the Passover(C) is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled(D) in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,(E) 4 and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.(F) 5 “But not during the festival,” they said, “or there may be a riot(G) among the people.”
Jesus Anointed at Bethany(H)(I)
6 While Jesus was in Bethany(J) in the home of Simon the Leper, 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.
8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked. 9 “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.”
10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 The poor you will always have with you,[a](K) but you will not always have me. 12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.(L) 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus(M)
14 Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot(N)—went to the chief priests 15 and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver.(O) 16 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
The Last Supper(P)(Q)(R)
17 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread,(S) the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”(T)
18 He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time(U) is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’” 19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.
20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21 And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.”(V)
22 They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, “Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?”
23 Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.(W) 24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him.(X) But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him,(Y) said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?”(Z)
Jesus answered, “You have said so.”
26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it(AA) and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
27 Then he took a cup,(AB) and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[b] covenant,(AC) which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.(AD) 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you(AE) in my Father’s kingdom.”
30 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.(AF)
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial(AG)
31 Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me,(AH) for it is written:
32 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”(AJ)
33 Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.”
34 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”(AK)
35 But Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with you,(AL) I will never disown you.” And all the other disciples said the same.
Gethsemane(AM)
36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee(AN) along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow(AO) to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”(AP)
39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup(AQ) be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”(AR)
40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me(AS) for one hour?” he asked Peter. 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.(AT) The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”(AU)
43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.
45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour(AV) has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
Jesus Arrested(AW)
47 While he was still speaking, Judas,(AX) one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.” 49 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!”(AY) and kissed him.
50 Jesus replied, “Do what you came for, friend.”[d](AZ)
Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. 51 With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword,(BA) drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.(BB)
52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.(BC) 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?(BD) 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled(BE) that say it must happen in this way?”
55 In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching,(BF) and you did not arrest me. 56 But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.”(BG) Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.
Jesus Before the Sanhedrin(BH)
57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas(BI) the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. 58 But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest.(BJ) He entered and sat down with the guards(BK) to see the outcome.
59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin(BL) were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses(BM) came forward.
Finally two(BN) came forward 61 and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”(BO)
62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 63 But Jesus remained silent.(BP)
The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath(BQ) by the living God:(BR) Tell us if you are the Messiah,(BS) the Son of God.”(BT)
64 “You have said so,”(BU) Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One(BV) and coming on the clouds of heaven.”[e](BW)
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes(BX) and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. 66 What do you think?”
“He is worthy of death,”(BY) they answered.
67 Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists.(BZ) Others slapped him 68 and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”(CA)
Peter Disowns Jesus(CB)
69 Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. “You also were with Jesus of Galilee,” she said.
70 But he denied it before them all. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said.
71 Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.”
72 He denied it again, with an oath: “I don’t know the man!”
73 After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.”
74 Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!”
Immediately a rooster crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”(CC) And he went outside and wept bitterly.
