Isaiah 5:11-16

New King James Version

¹¹^(A)Woe to those who rise early in the morning,
That they may ^[a]follow intoxicating drink;
Who continue until night, till wine inflames them!
¹²^(B)The harp and the strings,
The tambourine and flute,
And wine are in their feasts;
But ^(C)they do not regard the work of the Lord,
Nor consider the operation of His hands.

¹³^(D)Therefore my people have gone into captivity,
Because they have no ^(E)knowledge;
Their honorable men are famished,
And their multitude dried up with thirst.
¹⁴Therefore Sheol has enlarged itself
And opened its mouth beyond measure;
Their glory and their multitude and their pomp,
And he who is jubilant, shall descend into it.
¹⁵People shall be brought down,
^(F)Each man shall be humbled,
And the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled.
¹⁶But the Lord of hosts shall be ^(G)exalted in judgment,
And God who is holy shall be hallowed in righteousness.

⁴⁵^(A)But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk, ⁴⁶the master of that servant will come on a ^(B)day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. ⁴⁷And ^(C)that servant who ^(D)knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
