Pinagaling ni Jesus ang Isang Paralitiko(A)
9 Sumakay si Jesus sa bangka, tumawid sa kabilang ibayo at tumuloy sa sarili niyang bayan. 2 Pagdating doon, dinala sa kanya ng ilang tao ang isang paralitikong nakaratay sa higaan. Nang makita ni Jesus ang kanilang pananampalataya, sinabi niya sa paralitiko, “Anak, lakasan mo ang iyong loob! Pinapatawad ka na sa iyong mga kasalanan.” 3 May ilang tagapagturo ng Kautusan na naroon at sinabi nila sa kanilang sarili, “Nilalapastangan niya ang Diyos.” 4 Alam ni Jesus ang kanilang iniisip kaya't sinabi niya, “Bakit kayo nag-iisip nang ganyan? 5 Ano ba ang mas madali, ang sabihing, ‘pinapatawad na ang iyong mga kasalanan,’ o ang sabihing, ‘tumayo ka at lumakad’? 6 Ngunit upang malaman ninyo na ang Anak ng Tao ay may kapangyarihang magpatawad ng mga kasalanan dito sa lupa…” sinabi niya sa paralitiko, “Tumayo ka, buhatin mo ang iyong higaan, at umuwi ka na!” 7 Tumayo nga ang lalaki at umuwi. 8 Nang makita ito ng mga tao, sila'y natakot at nagpuri sa Diyos na nagbigay ng ganitong kapangyarihan sa mga tao.
Tinawag si Mateo(B)
9 Pag-alis ni Jesus doon, nakita niya si Mateo na nakaupo sa tanggapan ng buwis. Sinabi ni Jesus sa kanya, “Sumunod ka sa akin.” Tumayo nga si Mateo at sumunod sa kanya.
10 Nang(C) si Jesus at ang kanyang mga alagad ay nasa bahay, dumating ang maraming maniningil ng buwis at mga makasalanan. Sila'y magkakasalong kumain. 11 Nang makita ito ng mga Pariseo, tinanong nila ang kanyang mga alagad, “Bakit nakikisalo ang inyong guro sa mga maniningil ng buwis at sa mga makasalanan?” 12 Narinig sila ni Jesus at siya ang sumagot, “Hindi nangangailangan ng manggagamot ang walang sakit kundi ang maysakit. 13 Humayo(D) kayo at unawain ang kahulugan nito: ‘Habag ang nais ko at hindi handog.’ Sapagkat naparito ako upang tawagin ang mga makasalanan, hindi ang mga matuwid.”
Tinanong si Jesus tungkol sa Pag-aayuno(E)
14 Lumapit kay Jesus ang mga alagad ni Juan na Tagapagbautismo, at siya'y tinanong, “Kami po ay [madalas][a] mag-ayuno, gayundin ang mga Pariseo, ngunit bakit hindi po nag-aayuno ang inyong mga alagad?” 15 Sumagot siya, “Dapat bang malungkot ang mga panauhin sa kasalan habang kasama pa nila ang lalaking ikinasal? Kapag wala na ito, saka pa lamang sila mag-aayuno.
16 “Walang nagtatagpi ng bagong tela sa isang lumang kasuotan. Sapagkat kapag umurong ang bagong tela, mababatak nito ang tinagpian at lalong lalaki ang punit. 17 Wala ring nagsasalin ng bagong alak sa lumang sisidlang-balat. Kapag ganoon ang ginawa, puputok ang balat, matatapon ang alak, at mawawasak ang sisidlan. Sa halip, isinasalin ang bagong alak sa bagong sisidlang-balat; at sa gayon, kapwa ito nagtatagal.”

18 Habang sinasabi ni Jesus ang mga bagay na ito, may dumating namang isang pinuno ng mga Judio. Lumuhod ito sa harap niya at nakiusap, “Kamamatay po lamang ng aking anak na babae; sumama po kayo sa akin at ipatong ninyo ang inyong kamay sa kanya, at siya'y mabubuhay.” 19 Tumayo si Jesus at sumama sa kanya, gayundin ang kanyang mga alagad.
20 Habang sila'y naglalakad, lumapit sa likuran ni Jesus ang isang babaing labindalawang taon nang dinudugo at hinawakan ang laylayan ng kanyang damit. 21 Sinabi ng babae sa sarili, “Mahawakan ko lamang ang kanyang damit, gagaling na ako.” 22 Lumingon si Jesus at pagkakita sa kanya'y sinabi, “Anak, lakasan mo ang iyong loob! Pinagaling ka ng iyong pananampalataya.” Noon di'y gumaling ang babae.
23 Pagdating ni Jesus sa bahay ng pinuno, nakita niya ang mga manunugtog ng plauta at ang mga taong nagkakaingay. 24 Sinabi niya, “Lumabas muna kayo. Hindi patay ang bata; natutulog lamang!” At siya'y pinagtawanan nila. 25 Nang mapalabas na ang mga tao, pumasok si Jesus sa kuwarto, hinawakan niya sa kamay ang bata at ito'y bumangon. 26 Ang pangyayaring ito ay ipinamalita ng mga tao sa buong lupaing iyon.
Ang Pagpapagaling sa Dalawang Bulag
27 Pag-alis ni Jesus doon, sinundan siya ng dalawang lalaking bulag. Sumisigaw sila habang nasa daan, “Anak ni David, mahabag po kayo sa amin!”
28 Pagpasok ni Jesus sa bahay, lumapit sa kanya ang mga bulag. Tinanong sila ni Jesus, “Naniniwala ba kayo na mapapagaling ko kayo?” “Opo, Panginoon!” sagot nila. 29 Hinipo niya ang kanilang mga mata at sinabi, “Mangyari ang ayon sa inyong pananampalataya.” 30 At nakakita nga sila. Mahigpit na ipinagbilin sa kanila ni Jesus na huwag sasabihin iyon kaninuman. 31 Ngunit nang sila'y makaalis, ipinamalita nila sa buong lupaing iyon ang ginawa sa kanila ni Jesus.
Pinagaling ang Piping Sinasaniban ng Demonyo
32 Nang paalis na sila, dinala kay Jesus ang isang piping sinasapian ng demonyo. 33 Pinalayas ni Jesus ang demonyo at nakapagsalita agad ang pipi. Namangha ang mga tao at nasabi nila, “Kailanman ay wala pang nakitang katulad nito sa Israel!” [34 Subalit(G) sinabi naman ng mga Pariseo, “Nakapagpapalayas siya ng mga demonyo sa pamamagitan ng kapangyarihan ng pinuno ng mga demonyo.”][b]
Nahabag si Jesus sa mga Tao
35 Nilibot(H) ni Jesus ang lahat ng mga bayan at nayon doon. Nagtuturo siya sa kanilang mga sinagoga at ipinapangaral ang Magandang Balita tungkol sa paghahari ng Diyos. Pinagaling din niya ang lahat ng uri ng sakit at karamdaman. 36 Nang(I) makita niya ang napakaraming tao, nahabag siya sa kanila sapagkat sila'y litung-lito at hindi alam ang gagawin, parang mga tupang walang pastol. 37 Kaya't(J) sinabi niya sa kanyang mga alagad, “Napakaraming aanihin, ngunit kakaunti ang mag-aani. 38 Idalangin ninyo sa may-ari ng aanihin na magpadala ng mga mag-aani.”

Jesus Heals a Paralyzed Man(A)
9 Jesus got into a boat and went back across the ·lake [sea] to his own town. 2 [L And look/T behold] Some people brought to Jesus a man who was paralyzed and lying on a ·mat [cot; bed]. When Jesus saw ·the faith of these people [L their faith], he said to the paralyzed man, “·Be encouraged [Have courage; Take heart], ·young man [son; child]. Your sins are forgiven.”
3 Some of the ·teachers of the law [scribes] said to themselves, “·This man speaks as if he were God. That is blasphemy [L This man blasphemes]!”
4 ·Knowing [Perceiving] their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why are you thinking evil ·thoughts [L in your hearts]? 5 [L For] Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to tell him, ‘Stand up and walk’? 6 But ·I will prove to you [L so that you may know] that the Son of Man [C a title for the Messiah; Dan. 7:13–14] has authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “Stand up, ·take [pick up] your ·mat [cot; bed], and go home.” 7 And the man stood up and went home. 8 When the ·people [crowds] saw this, they were ·amazed [filled with awe; afraid] and ·praised [glorified] God for giving ·power like this [such authority] to ·human beings [mankind; C the language echoes the Son of Man title just used by Jesus (v. 6), which the crowds misunderstand to mean simply “a human being”].
Jesus Chooses Matthew(B)
9 When Jesus was ·leaving [walking along], he saw a man named Matthew sitting in the tax collector’s booth [C probably a tariff booth for taxing goods in transit]. Jesus said to him, “Follow me,” and he stood up and followed Jesus.
10 As Jesus was ·having dinner [L reclining; C around a low table; the posture for a formal banquet or dinner party] at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ·ate [L reclined together] with Jesus and his ·followers [disciples]. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked Jesus’ ·followers [disciples], “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors [C despised because they worked for the Roman rulers and were notorious for corruption and extortion] and sinners?”
12 When Jesus heard them, he said, “It is not the healthy people who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 Go and learn what this means: ‘I ·want [desire; require; am pleased by] ·kindness [compassion; mercy] ·more than I want [L not] animal sacrifices [Hos. 6:6].’ [L For] I did not come to ·invite [call] ·good people [the righteous; C meaning the “self-righteous” who feel no need to repent] but to invite [call] sinners [C those who recognize their need to repent].”
Jesus’ Followers Are Criticized(C)
14 Then the ·followers [disciples] of John [C the Baptist] came to Jesus and said, “Why do we and the Pharisees often fast [C giving up eating for spiritual purposes], but your ·followers [disciples] don’t?”
15 Jesus answered, “The ·friends of the bridegroom [or wedding guests; L children of the wedding hall] ·are not sad [L cannot mourn] while he is with them [C Jesus is referring to himself; John 3:29; Rev. 19:7]. But the ·time [L days] will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast.
16 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk [C new] cloth over a hole in an old ·coat [garment]. If he does, the patch will shrink and pull away from the ·coat [garment], making the ·hole [tear] worse. 17 Also, people never pour new wine into old ·leather bags [wineskins]. Otherwise, the ·bags [wineskins] will ·break [burst; C because the fermenting wine expands], the wine will spill, and the ·wine bags [wineskins] will be ruined. But people always pour new wine into ·new [fresh] ·wine bags [wineskins]. Then both ·will continue to be good [are preserved].”
Jesus Gives Life to a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman(D)
18 While Jesus was saying these things, a ·leader of the synagogue [L leader; official; ruler; C Mark 5:22 identifies him as a synagogue leader] came to him. He ·bowed down [knelt] before Jesus and said, “My daughter has just died. But if you come and lay your hand on her, she will live again.” 19 So Jesus and his ·followers [disciples] stood up and ·went with [L followed] him.
20 ·Then [L And look/T behold,] a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years [C probably a chronic menstrual disorder] came behind Jesus and touched the ·edge [or tassels; see Num. 15:38–39] of his ·coat [cloak; garment]. 21 [L For] She was thinking, “If I can just touch his clothes, I will ·be healed [get well; be saved].”
22 Jesus turned and saw the woman and said, “·Be encouraged [Have courage; Take heart], ·dear woman [L daughter]. ·You are made well because you believed [Your faith has saved/healed you].” And the woman was ·healed [made well; saved] from that moment on.
23 Jesus continued along with the ·leader [ruler; official] and went into his house. There he saw the ·funeral musicians [L pipe/flute players] and ·many people crying [a noisy crowd]. 24 Jesus said, “·Go away [Get out; Leave]. [L For] The girl is not dead, only asleep.” But the people ·laughed at [ridiculed] him. 25 After the crowd had been ·thrown [sent; put] out of the house, Jesus went into the girl’s room and took hold of her hand, and she ·stood up [arose]. 26 The ·news [report] about this spread ·all around the area [L throughout that whole land/region].
Jesus Heals Two Blind Men(E)
27 When Jesus was leaving there, two blind men followed him. They cried out, “·Have mercy [Take pity] on us, Son of David [C a title for the Messiah, a descendant of King David; 2 Sam. 7:11–16]!”
28 After Jesus went inside, the blind men went with him. He asked the men, “Do you believe that I can ·make you see again [L do this]?”
They answered, “Yes, Lord.”
29 Then Jesus touched their eyes and said, “·Because you believe [L According to your faith], ·it will happen [L let it be done for you].” 30 Then ·the men were able to see [L their eyes were opened]. But Jesus warned them strongly, saying, “·Don’t tell anyone [L See that no one knows] about this.” 31 But the blind men left and spread the news about Jesus ·all around that area [L throughout that whole land/region].
Jesus Heals a Demon Possessed Man(F)
32 When the two men were leaving, [L look; behold] some people brought to Jesus ·another man who could not talk because he had a demon in him [a mute, demon-possessed man]. 33 After Jesus ·forced the demon to leave the man [drove/cast out the demon], he ·was able [began] to speak. The crowd was amazed and said, “·We have never seen anything like this [L Nothing like this has ever been seen/happened] in Israel.”
34 But the Pharisees said, “He forces [drives; casts] demons out by the power of the ·prince [ruler] of demons.”
The Harvest Is Great(G)
35 Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, ·preaching [proclaiming] the ·Good News [Gospel] about the kingdom, and healing all kinds of diseases and sicknesses. 36 When he saw the crowds, he ·felt sorry [had compassion] for them because they were ·hurting [distressed; confused; harassed] and ·helpless [discouraged; dejected], like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Jesus said to his ·followers [disciples], “·There are many people to harvest [L The harvest is great/large] but ·there are only a few workers [the workers/laborers are few]. 38 So pray to the Lord ·who owns [who is in charge of; L of] the harvest, that he will send more ·workers [laborers] ·to gather [L into] his harvest.”

Jesus Heals a Man Who Could Not Walk
(Mark 2.1-12; Luke 5.17-26)
9 Jesus got into a boat and crossed back over to the town where he lived.[a] 2 Some people soon brought to him a man lying on a mat because he could not walk. When Jesus saw how much faith they had, he said to the man, “My friend, don't worry! Your sins are forgiven.”
3 Some teachers of the Law of Moses said to themselves, “Jesus must think he is God!”
4 But Jesus knew what was in their minds, and he said, “Why are you thinking such evil things? 5 Is it easier for me to tell this man his sins are forgiven or to tell him to get up and walk? 6 But I will show you that the Son of Man has the right to forgive sins here on earth.” So Jesus said to the man, “Get up! Pick up your mat and go on home.” 7 The man got up and went home. 8 When the crowds saw this, they were afraid[b] and praised God for giving such authority to people.

9 As Jesus was leaving, he saw a tax collector[c] named Matthew sitting at the place for paying taxes. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.” Matthew got up and went with him.
10 (A) Later, Jesus and his disciples were having dinner at Matthew's house.[d] Many tax collectors and other sinners were also there. 11 Some Pharisees asked Jesus' disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and other sinners?”
12 Jesus heard them and answered, “Healthy people don't need a doctor, but sick people do. 13 (B) Go and learn what the Scriptures mean when they say, ‘Instead of offering sacrifices to me, I want you to be merciful to others.’ I didn't come to invite good people to be my followers. I came to invite sinners.”
People Ask about Going without Eating
(Mark 2.18-22; Luke 5.33-39)
14 Some followers of John the Baptist came and asked Jesus, “Why do we and the Pharisees often go without eating,[e] while your disciples never do?”
15 Jesus answered:
The friends of a bridegroom aren't sad while he is still with them. But the time will come when he will be taken from them. Then they will go without eating.
16 No one uses a new piece of cloth to patch old clothes. The patch would shrink and tear a bigger hole.
17 No one pours new wine into old wineskins. The wine would swell and burst the old skins.[f] Then the wine would be lost, and the skins would be ruined. New wine must be put into new wineskins. Both the skins and the wine will then be safe.
A Dying Girl and a Sick Woman
(Mark 5.21-43; Luke 8.40-56)
18 While Jesus was still speaking, an official came and knelt in front of him. The man said, “My daughter has just now died! Please come and place your hand on her. Then she will live again.”
19 Jesus and his disciples got up and went with the man.
20 A woman who had been bleeding for twelve years came up behind Jesus and barely touched his clothes. 21 She had said to herself, “If I can just touch his clothes, I will be healed.”
22 Jesus turned. He saw the woman and said, “Don't worry! You are now healed because of your faith.” At that moment she was healed.
23 When Jesus went into the home of the official and saw the musicians and the crowd of mourners,[g] 24 he said, “Get out of here! The little girl isn't dead. She is just asleep.” Everyone started laughing at Jesus. 25 But after the crowd had been sent out of the house, Jesus went to the girl's bedside. He took her by the hand and helped her up.
26 News about this spread all over that part of the country.
Jesus Heals Two Blind Men
27 As Jesus was leaving that place, two blind men began following him and shouting, “Son of David,[h] have pity on us!”
28 After Jesus had gone indoors, the two blind men came up to him. He asked them, “Do you believe I can make you well?”
“Yes, Lord,” they answered.
29 Jesus touched their eyes and said, “Because of your faith, you will be healed.” 30 They were able to see, and Jesus strictly warned them not to tell anyone about him. 31 But they left and talked about him to everyone in that part of the country.
Jesus Heals a Man Who Could Not Talk
32 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, some people brought to him a man who could not talk because a demon was in him. 33 After Jesus had forced the demon out, the man started talking. The crowds were so amazed they began saying, “Nothing like this has ever happened in Israel!”
34 (C) But the Pharisees said, “The leader of the demons gives him the power to force out demons.”
Jesus Has Pity on People
35 (D) Jesus went to every town and village. He taught in their synagogues and preached the good news about God's kingdom. Jesus also healed every kind of disease and sickness. 36 (E) When he saw the crowds, he felt sorry for them. They were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 (F) He said to his disciples, “A large crop is in the fields, but there are only a few workers. 38 Ask the Lord in charge of the harvest to send out workers to bring it in.”
