Matthew 8
Disciples’ Literal New Testament
8 1 And[a] He having come down from the mountain, large crowds followed Him.
Because Jesus Is Willing And Able To Heal, He Heals a Man With Leprosy
2 And behold— a leper having come to Him was prostrating-himself before Him, saying, “Master, if You are willing, You are able to cleanse me”. 3 And having stretched-out His hand, He touched him, saying, “I am willing[b]. Be cleansed”. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 And Jesus says to him, “See that you tell no one. But go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift which Moses commanded, for a testimony to them”.
Because of a Master’s Faith, Jesus Heals a Paralyzed Servant Who Is Not Even Present
5 And He having entered into Capernaum, a centurion[c] came to Him, appealing-to Him 6 and saying, “Master, my servant has been put in the house paralyzed, being terribly tormented”. 7 And He says to him, “Having come, I will[d] cure him”. 8 And having responded, the centurion said, “Master, I am not fit that You should come-in under my roof. But only speak it in a word[e] and my servant will be healed. 9 For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under myself. And I say to this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes; and to my slave, ‘Do this!’ and he does it”. 10 Now having heard, Jesus marveled, and said to the ones following, “Truly I say to you, with no one in Israel did I find so-great a faith! 11 And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and will lie-back [to eat] with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of the heavens. 12 But the sons of [f] the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness. In that place, there will be the weeping and the grinding of teeth”. 13 And Jesus said to the centurion, “Go. Let it be done for you as you believed”. And his servant was healed at that hour.
The Healings Done By Jesus Fulfill What Was Predicted of Him In Isaiah
14 And Jesus, having come into the house of Peter, saw his mother-in-law having been put in bed, and being sick-with-fever. 15 And He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose, and was serving Him. 16 And having become evening, they brought to Him many being demon-possessed. And He cast-out the spirits with a word and cured all the ones being ill, 17 so that the thing might be fulfilled having been spoken through Isaiah the prophet saying “He took our weaknesses[g], and carried our diseases” [Isa 53:4].
Jesus Calls His Followers To Set Aside Earthly Goals And Limitations
18 Now Jesus, having seen a crowd around Him, gave-orders to depart to the other side. 19 And having come to Him, one scribe said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go”. 20 And Jesus says to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the heaven have nests, but the Son of Man does not have[h] a place where He may lay His head”. 21 And another of His disciples said to Him, “Master, permit me first to go and bury[i] my father”. 22 But Jesus says to him, “Be following Me, and allow the dead to bury their own dead”.
Even The Winds And Sea Obey Jesus
23 And He having gotten into the boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And behold— a great shaking took place in the sea, so that the boat was being covered by the waves. But He was sleeping. 25 And having gone to Him, they woke Him, saying, “Master, save us. We are perishing”. 26 And He says to them, “Why are you afraid, ones of-little-faith?” Then having arisen, He rebuked the winds and the sea. And there was a great calm. 27 And the men marveled, saying, “What kind of man is this One, that[j] even[k] the winds and the sea obey Him?”
Demons Recognize Jesus As The Son of God, And Submit To His Authority Over Them
28 And He having come to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, two men being demon-possessed met Him, coming out of the tombs. They were very violent[l], so that no one was strong-enough to pass through that way. 29 And behold— they cried-out, saying, “What do we have to do with You[m], Son of God? Did You come here to torment us before the time?” 30 Now there was a herd of many pigs feeding far away from them. 31 And the demons were begging Him, saying, “If You are casting us out, send us out into the herd of pigs”. 32 And He said to them, “Go!” And the ones, having come out, went into the pigs. And behold— the whole herd rushed down the steep-bank into the sea and died in the waters. 33 And the ones feeding[n] them fled. And having gone into the city, they reported everything— even the things about the ones being demon-possessed. 34 And behold— the whole city came out to meet with Jesus. And having seen Him, they begged that He pass on from their districts.

Jesus Heals a Sick Man
8 When Jesus came down from the hill, great crowds followed him. 2 Then a man sick with a harmful skin disease came to Jesus. The man bowed down before him and said, “Lord, you have the power to heal me if you want.”
3 Jesus touched the man and said, “I want to heal you. Be healed!” And immediately the man was healed from his skin disease. 4 Then Jesus said to him, “Don’t tell anyone about what happened. But go and show yourself to the priest.[a] And offer the gift that Moses commanded[b] for people who are made well. This will show people that you are healed.”
Jesus Heals a Soldier’s Servant
5 Jesus went to the city of Capernaum. When he entered the city, an army officer came to Jesus and begged for help. 6 The officer said, “Lord, my servant is at home in bed. He can’t move his body and is in much pain.”
7 Jesus said to the officer, “I will go and heal him.”
8 The officer answered, “Lord, I am not good enough for you to come into my house. All you need to do is command that my servant be healed, and he will be healed. 9 I myself am a man under the authority of other men. And I have soldiers under my command. I tell one soldier, ‘Go,’ and he goes. I tell another soldier, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and my servant obeys me.
10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. He said to those who were with him, “I tell you the truth. This man has more faith than any other person I have found, even in Israel. 11 Many people will come from the east and from the west. They will sit and eat with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 And those people who should have the kingdom will be thrown outside into the darkness. In that place people will cry and grind their teeth with pain.”
13 Then Jesus said to the officer, “Go home. Your servant will be healed just as you believed he would.” And at that same time his servant was healed.
Jesus Heals Many People
14 Jesus went to Peter’s house. There Jesus saw that Peter’s mother-in-law was in bed with a high fever. 15 Jesus touched her hand, and the fever left her. Then she stood up and began to serve Jesus.
16 That evening people brought to Jesus many who had demons. Jesus spoke and the demons left them. Jesus healed all the sick. 17 He did these things to make come true what Isaiah the prophet said:
“He took our suffering on him.
And he felt our pain for us.” Isaiah 53:4
People Want to Follow Jesus
18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he told his followers to go to the other side of the lake. 19 Then a teacher of the law came to Jesus and said, “Teacher, I will follow you any place you go.”
20 Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes to live in. The birds have nests to live in. But the Son of Man has no place where he can rest his head.”
21 Another man, one of Jesus’ followers, said to Jesus, “Lord, let me go and bury my father first.”
22 But Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and let the people who are dead bury their own dead.”
Jesus Stops a Storm
23 Jesus got into a boat, and his followers went with him. 24 A very bad storm arose on the lake. The waves covered the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The followers went to Jesus and woke him. They said, “Lord, save us! We will drown!”
26 Jesus answered, “Why are you afraid? You don’t have enough faith.” Then Jesus got up and gave a command to the wind and the sea. The wind stopped, and the sea became very calm.
27 The men were amazed. They said, “What kind of man is this? Even the wind and the sea obey him!”
Jesus Heals Two Men with Demons
28 Jesus arrived at the other side of the lake in the country of the Gadarene[c] people. There, two men came to Jesus. They had demons in them. These men lived in the burial caves. They were so dangerous that people could not use the road by those caves. 29 The two men came to Jesus and shouted, “What do you want with us, Son of God? Did you come here to punish us before the right time?”
30 Near that place there was a large herd of pigs feeding. 31 The demons begged Jesus, “If you make us leave these men, please send us into that herd of pigs.”
32 Jesus said to them, “Go!” So the demons left the men and went into the pigs. Then the whole herd of pigs ran down the hill into the lake and were drowned. 33 The men who were caring for the pigs ran away and went into town. They told about all of this and what had happened to the men who had demons. 34 Then the whole town went out to see Jesus. When they saw him, they begged him to leave their area.

8 When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.

3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
14 And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever.

18 Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.
19 And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.
23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.
24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.
26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
27 But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
30 And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding.
31 So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.
32 And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.
33 And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils.
34 And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts.
