Matthew 8

8 When Jesus came down from the mountain, great throngs followed Him.
2 And behold, a leper came up to Him and, prostrating himself, worshiped Him, saying, Lord, if You are willing, You are able to [a]cleanse me by curing me.
3 And He reached out His hand and touched him, saying, I am willing; be cleansed [b]by being cured. And instantly his leprosy was cured and cleansed.
4 And Jesus said to him, See that you tell nothing about this to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest and present the offering that Moses commanded, for a testimony [to your healing] and as an evidence to the people.(A)
5 As Jesus went into Capernaum, a centurion came up to Him, begging Him,
6 And saying, Lord, my servant boy is lying at the house paralyzed and [c]distressed with intense pains.
7 And Jesus said to him, I will come and restore him.
8 But the centurion replied to Him, Lord, I am not worthy or fit to have You come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my servant boy will be cured.
9 For I also am a man subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my slave, Do this, and he does it.
10 When Jesus heard him, He marveled and said to those who followed Him [[d]who adhered steadfastly to Him, conforming to His example in living and, if need be, in dying also], I tell you truly, I have not found so much faith as this [e]with anyone, even in Israel.
11 I tell you, many will come from east and west, and will sit at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven,
12 While the sons and heirs of the kingdom will be driven out into the darkness outside, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.(B)
13 Then to the centurion Jesus said, Go; it shall be done for you as you have believed. And the servant boy was restored to health at that very [f]moment.
14 And when Jesus went into Peter’s house, He saw his mother-in-law lying ill with a fever.
15 He touched her hand and the fever left her; and she got up and began waiting on Him.
16 When evening came, they brought to Him many who were [g]under the power of demons, and He drove out the spirits with a word and restored to health all who were sick.
17 And thus He fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, He Himself took [[h]in order to carry away] our weaknesses and infirmities and bore [i]away our diseases.(C)
18 Now Jesus, when He saw the great throngs around Him, gave orders to cross to the other side [of the lake].
19 And a scribe came up and said to Him, Master, I will accompany You wherever You go.
20 And Jesus replied to him, Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have lodging places, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.
21 Another of the disciples said to Him, Lord, let me first go and bury [[j]care for till death] my father.
22 But Jesus said to him, Follow Me, and leave the dead [[k]in sin] to bury their own dead.
23 And after He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him.
24 And [l]suddenly, behold, there arose a violent storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered up by the waves; but He was sleeping.
25 And they went and awakened Him, saying, Lord, rescue and preserve us! We are perishing!
26 And He said to them, Why are you timid and afraid, O you of little faith? Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great and wonderful calm ([m]a perfect peaceableness).
27 And the men were stunned with bewildered wonder and marveled, saying, What kind of Man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him!
28 And when He arrived at the other side in the country of the Gadarenes, two men under the control of demons went to meet Him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce and savage that no one was able to pass that way.
29 And behold, they shrieked and screamed, What have You to do with us, Jesus, Son of God? Have You come to torment us before the appointed time?(D)
30 Now at some distance from there a drove of many hogs was grazing.
31 And the demons begged Him, If You drive us out, send us into the drove of hogs.
32 And He said to them, Begone! So they came out and went into the hogs, and behold, the whole drove rushed down the steep bank into the sea and died in the water.
33 The herdsmen fled and went into the town and reported everything, including what had happened to the men under the power of demons.
34 And behold, the whole town went out to meet Jesus; and as soon as they saw Him, they begged Him to depart from their locality.

Jesús sana a un leproso(A)
8 Cuando Jesús bajó del monte, mucha gente lo siguió. 2 En esto se le acercó un hombre enfermo de lepra, el cual se puso de rodillas delante de él y le dijo:
—Señor, si quieres, puedes limpiarme de mi enfermedad.
3 Jesús lo tocó con la mano, y dijo:
—Quiero. ¡Queda limpio!
Al momento, el leproso quedó limpio de su enfermedad. 4 Jesús añadió:
—Mira, no se lo digas a nadie; solamente ve y preséntate al sacerdote, y lleva la ofrenda que ordenó Moisés, para que conste ante los sacerdotes.
Jesús sana al criado de un capitán romano(B)
5 Al entrar Jesús en Cafarnaúm, un capitán romano se le acercó para hacerle un ruego. 6 Le dijo:
—Señor, mi criado está en casa enfermo, paralizado y sufriendo terribles dolores.
7 Jesús le respondió:
—Iré a sanarlo.
8 El capitán contestó:
—Señor, yo no merezco que entres en mi casa; solamente da la orden, y mi criado quedará sano. 9 Porque yo mismo estoy bajo órdenes superiores, y a la vez tengo soldados bajo mi mando. Cuando le digo a uno de ellos que vaya, va; cuando le digo a otro que venga, viene; y cuando mando a mi criado que haga algo, lo hace.
10 Jesús se quedó admirado al oír esto, y dijo a los que le seguían:
—Les aseguro que no he encontrado a nadie en Israel con tanta fe como este hombre. 11 Y les digo que muchos vendrán de oriente y de occidente, y se sentarán a comer con Abraham, Isaac y Jacob en el reino de los cielos, 12 pero los que deberían estar en el reino, serán echados a la oscuridad de afuera. Entonces vendrán el llanto y la desesperación.
13 Luego Jesús dijo al capitán:
—Vete a tu casa, y que se haga tal como has creído.
En ese mismo momento el criado quedó sano.
Jesús sana a la suegra de Pedro(C)
14 Jesús fue a casa de Pedro, donde encontró a la suegra de éste en cama y con fiebre. 15 Jesús tocó entonces la mano de ella, y la fiebre se le quitó, así que ella se levantó y comenzó a atenderlo.
Jesús sana a muchos enfermos(D)
16 Al anochecer llevaron a Jesús muchas personas endemoniadas; y con una orden expulsó a los espíritus malos, y también sanó a todos los enfermos. 17 Esto sucedió para que se cumpliera lo que anunció el profeta Isaías, cuando dijo: «Él tomó nuestras debilidades y cargó con nuestras enfermedades.»

18 Jesús, al verse rodeado por la multitud, dio orden de pasar al otro lado del lago. 19 Entonces se le acercó un maestro de la ley, y le dijo:
—Maestro, deseo seguirte a dondequiera que vayas.
20 Jesús le contestó:
—Las zorras tienen cuevas y las aves tienen nidos, pero el Hijo del hombre no tiene donde recostar la cabeza.
21 Otro, que era uno de sus discípulos, le dijo:
—Señor, déjame ir primero a enterrar a mi padre.
22 Jesús le contestó:
—Sígueme, y deja que los muertos entierren a sus muertos.
Jesús calma la tormenta(F)
23 Jesús subió a la barca, y sus discípulos lo acompañaron. 24 En esto se desató sobre el lago una tormenta tan fuerte que las olas cubrían la barca. Pero Jesús se había dormido. 25 Entonces sus discípulos fueron a despertarlo, diciéndole:
—¡Señor, sálvanos! ¡Nos estamos hundiendo!
26 Él les contestó:
—¿Por qué tanto miedo? ¡Qué poca fe tienen ustedes!
Dicho esto, se levantó y dio una orden al viento y al mar, y todo quedó completamente tranquilo. 27 Ellos, admirados, se preguntaban:
—¿Pues quién será éste, que hasta los vientos y el mar lo obedecen?
Los endemoniados de Gadara(G)
28 Cuando Jesús llegó al otro lado del lago, a la tierra de Gadara, dos endemoniados salieron de entre las tumbas y se acercaron a él. Eran tan feroces que nadie podía pasar por aquel camino; 29 y se pusieron a gritar:
—¡No te metas con nosotros, Hijo de Dios! ¿Viniste acá para atormentarnos antes de tiempo?
30 A cierta distancia de allí había muchos cerdos comiendo, 31 y los demonios le rogaron a Jesús:
—Si nos expulsas, déjanos entrar en esos cerdos.
32 Jesús les dijo:
—Vayan.
Los demonios salieron de los hombres y entraron en los cerdos; y al momento todos los cerdos echaron a correr pendiente abajo hasta el lago, y allí se ahogaron.
33 Los que cuidaban de los cerdos salieron huyendo, y al llegar al pueblo comenzaron a contar lo sucedido, todo lo que había pasado con los endemoniados. 34 Entonces todos los del pueblo salieron a donde estaba Jesús, y al verlo le rogaron que se fuera de aquellos lugares.

Jesus Cleanses a Leper(A)
8 When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. 2 (B)And behold, a leper came and (C)worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”
3 Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy (D)was cleansed.
4 And Jesus said to him, (E)“See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that (F)Moses (G)commanded, as a testimony to them.”
Jesus Heals a Centurion’s Servant(H)
5 (I)Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a (J)centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, 6 saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.”
7 And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.”
8 The centurion answered and said, “Lord, (K)I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only (L)speak a word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
10 When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! 11 And I say to you that (M)many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But (N)the sons of the kingdom (O)will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour.
Peter’s Mother-in-Law Healed(P)
14 (Q)Now when Jesus had come into Peter’s house, He saw (R)his wife’s mother lying sick with a fever. 15 So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served [a]them.
Many Healed in the Evening(S)
16 (T)When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:

And bore our sicknesses.”
The Cost of Discipleship(V)
18 And when Jesus saw great multitudes about Him, He gave a command to depart to the other side. 19 (W)Then a certain scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.”
20 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

Wind and Wave Obey Jesus(Z)
23 Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 (AA)And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. 25 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then (AB)He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 So the men marveled, saying, [b]“Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”
Two Demon-Possessed Men Healed(AC)
28 (AD)When He had come to the other side, to the country of the [c]Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way. 29 And suddenly they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?”
30 Now a good way off from them there was a herd of many swine feeding. 31 So the demons begged Him, saying, “If You cast us out, [d]permit us to go away into the herd of swine.”
32 And He said to them, “Go.” So when they had come out, they went into the herd of swine. And suddenly the whole herd of swine ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and perished in the water.
33 Then those who kept them fled; and they went away into the city and told everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. 34 And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, (AE)they begged Him to depart from their region.
