The Cost of Discipleship^(A)

¹⁸ And when Jesus saw great multitudes about Him, He gave a command to depart to the other side. ^19 (B)Then a certain scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.”

²⁰ And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

^21 (C)Then another of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, ^(D)let me first go and bury my father.”

²² But Jesus said to him, “Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”

The Cost of Discipleship^(A)

^57 (B)Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.”

⁵⁸ And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man ^(C)has nowhere to lay His head.”

^59 (D)Then He said to another, “Follow Me.”

But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”

⁶⁰ Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.”

⁶¹ And another also said, “Lord, ^(E)I will follow You, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.”

⁶² But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is ^(F)fit for the kingdom of God.”

The Parable of the Great Supper^(A)

¹⁵ Now when one of those who sat at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, ^(B)“Blessed is he who shall eat ^[a]bread in the kingdom of God!”

^16 (C)Then He said to him, “A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, ¹⁷ and ^(D)sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, ‘Come, for all things are now ready.’ ¹⁸ But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.’ ¹⁹ And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.’ ²⁰ Still another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’
