Judging Others(A)

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged. And with the measure you use, it will be measured again for you.

“And why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank that is in your own eye? Or how will you say to your brother, ‘Let me pull the speck out of your eye,’ when a log is in your own eye? You hypocrite! First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

“Do not give what is holy to the dogs, nor throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet and turn around and attack you.

Ask, Seek, Knock(B)

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks, it will be opened.

“What man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a snake? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! 12 Therefore, everything you would like men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

The Narrow Gate(C)

13 “Enter at the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who are going through it, 14 because small is the gate and narrow is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

A Tree and Its Fruit(D)

15 “Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruit. Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit. But a corrupt tree bears evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear evil fruit, nor can a corrupt tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore, by their fruit you will know them.

I Never Knew You(E)

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonderful works in Your name?’ 23 But then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from Me, you who practice evil.’[a]

The Two Housebuilders(F)

24 “Whoever hears these sayings of Mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on a rock. 25 And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house. And it did not fall, for it was founded a rock. 26 And every one who hears these sayings of Mine and does not do them will be likened to a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house. And it fell. And its fall was great.”

28 When Jesus finished these sayings, the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Om ikke at dømme andre(A)

Lad være med at dømme andre, ellers bliver I selv dømt. Den målestok, I anvender over for andre, vil blive anvendt over for jer. Du kan let se splinten i din vens øje, men bjælken i dit eget øje kan du slet ikke få øje på. Hvordan kan du sige til din ven: ‚Lad mig tage splinten ud af dit øje’, når du ikke ser bjælken i dit eget? Din selvretfærdige hykler! Sørg først for at få bjælken ud af dit eget øje, så kan du se klart til at tage splinten ud af din vens øje.

Om at bedømme situationen

Giv ikke jeres kostbare perler til svinene, for de vil bare træde dem ned uden at forstå værdien. Kast ikke det bedste, I har, for de vilde hunde, for de vil blot vende sig om mod jer og gå til angreb.

Om at få som svar på bøn(B)

Bed, så skal I få. Søg, så skal I finde. Bank på, så vil døren blive lukket op for jer. For den, som beder, får. Den, der søger, finder, og døren lukkes op for den, som banker på. Hvis et barn beder sine forældre om et stykke brød, så får det vel ikke en sten?[a] 10 Eller hvis barnet beder om en fisk, så får det vel ikke en slange? 11 Når I, som er onde, forstår at give jeres børn gode gaver, skulle så ikke jeres himmelske Far give gode gaver til dem, der beder ham om det?

Den gyldne regel(C)

12 Sådan som I ønsker, at andre skal gøre mod jer, sådan skal I gøre mod dem. Det er Toraen og Profeterne i en nøddeskal.

Den snævre port(D)

13 Gå ind gennem den snævre port. Vid er den port og bred den vej, der fører til fortabelsen. Mange er de, der følger den. 14 Snæver er den port og smal den vej, der fører til livet. Få er de, der finder den.

Falsk lære bedømmes ud fra resultaterne(E)

15 Vogt jer for de falske profeter. De kommer forklædt som uskyldige får, men er i virkeligheden glubske ulve. 16 Bedøm dem ud fra resultatet af deres handlinger, ligesom man bedømmer et træ ud fra dets frugter. Der vokser jo ikke vindruer på en tjørnebusk, og man finder ikke figner på en tidsel. 17 Det er altid sådan, at et godt træ bærer god frugt, og et dårligt træ bærer dårlig frugt. 18 Et godt træ kan ikke bære dårlig frugt, og et dårligt træ kan ikke bære god frugt. 19 Ethvert frugttræ, der ikke bærer god frugt, bliver hugget om og brændt. 20 Altså skal I bedømme dem ud fra deres frugter.

Lydhørhed og lydighed frem for ord og mirakler(F)

21 Det er ikke alle, der omtaler mig som ‚Herre’, der kommer med ind i Guds rige, men kun de, der gør min himmelske Fars vilje. 22 På dommens dag vil mange prøve at forsvare deres handlinger: ‚Herre, Herre, er det da ikke i dit navn, vi har profeteret? Er det da ikke i dit navn, vi har uddrevet onde ånder? Er det da ikke i dit navn, vi har gjort undere?’ 23 Men jeg vil svare: ‚Jeg har aldrig kendt jer. Gå jeres vej, I som handler ondt!’

Huset på klippegrund(G)

24 Enhver, som lytter til mine ord og handler på dem, ligner en, der var så fornuftig at bygge sit hus på klippegrund. 25 Selv da regnen styrtede ned, floden gik over sine bredder, og stormvindene slog imod huset, styrtede det ikke sammen, for det stod på klippegrund.[b]

26 Enhver, som lytter til mine ord, men ikke handler på dem, ligner en, der var så tåbelig at bygge sit hus på sandgrund. 27 Da regnen styrtede ned, floden gik over sine bredder, og stormvindene slog imod huset, faldt det sammen med et brag, og alt blev ødelagt.”

Ingen har talt, som Jesus gjorde(H)

28 Da Jesus holdt op med at tale, var de mange mennesker overvældet af forundring over hans undervisning. 29 Han talte nemlig med stor autoritet—og ikke som de skriftlærde.
