The narrow and wide gates

¹³ ‘Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. ¹⁴ But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

²³ Then I will tell them plainly, “I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!”

⁴⁶ ‘Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.’

¹⁶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. ¹⁷ For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed – a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,^[a] just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’^[b]

²² This righteousness is given through faith in^[a] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile,

²⁸ For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.

⁵ However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.

¹³ It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.
