Matthew 6
Disciples’ Literal New Testament
But Do Not Merely Put On a Show of Righteousness For Others
6 “But take-heed not to do your righteousness[a] in-front-of people so-as to be seen[b] by them. Otherwise indeed, you do not have a reward with your Father in the heavens.
Don’t Give Money To Glorify Yourself. Give Without Thinking of Yourself At All
2 “So whenever you do almsgiving[c], do not trumpet it before you as-indeed the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the lanes[d] so that they may be glorified by people. Truly I say to you, they are receiving their reward[e] in full. 3 But while you are doing almsgiving, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your almsgiving may be in secret. And your Father, the One seeing in secret, will reward you.
Don’t Pray To Impress Others. Always Pray As If Alone With Your Heavenly Father
5 “And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. Because standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the wide-roads, they love to pray so that they may make-an-appearance[f] to people. Truly I say to you, they are receiving their reward in full. 6 But whenever you pray, enter into your inner-room, and having shut your door, pray to your Father, the One in secret. And your Father, the One seeing in secret, will reward you.
Don’t Babble On In Prayer. Pray As a Child of God, Aligned With His Purposes
7 “And while praying, do not babble as-indeed the Gentiles do. For they are thinking that they will be heard by means of their many-words[g]. 8 So do not be like them, for your Father knows of the things which you have a need before you ask Him. 9 Therefore, you be praying as follows, ‘Our Father in the heavens: 10 let[h] Your name be treated-as-holy. Let Your kingdom come. Let Your will be done[i]— as in heaven, also on earth. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also forgave[j] our debtors. 13 And do not bring us into a temptation[k], but deliver[l] us from the evil one[m]’. 14 For if you forgive people their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive people their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Don’t Display Yourself As Fasting. Fast In Secret
16 “And whenever you fast, do not be like the sad-faced hypocrites. For they disfigure[n] their faces so that they may appear to people as ones fasting. Truly I say to you, they are receiving their reward in full. 17 But while you are fasting, anoint your head and wash your face 18 so that you may not appear to people as one fasting, but to your Father, the One in secret. And your Father, the One seeing in secret, will reward you.
Build Your Storehouse of Treasure In Heaven, Not On Earth
19 “Do not be treasuring-up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moth and eating[o] destroy, and where thieves break-in and steal. 20 But be treasuring up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor eating destroys, and where thieves do not break in nor steal.
Your Heart Will Be Where Your Treasure Is. You Cannot Serve God And Money
21 “For where your treasure is, there your heart also will be. 22 The lamp[p] of the body is the eye. Therefore if your eye is single[q], your whole body will be full-of-light[r]. 23 But if your eye is bad[s], your whole body will be full-of-darkness. If then the light in you is darkness[t], how great is the darkness! 24 No one can be serving[u] two masters. For either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted-to one and disregard[v] the other. You cannot be serving God and wealth[w].
Don’t Be Anxious About Your Earthly Life. Seek God’s Kingdom And Righteousness
25 “For this reason I say to you— do not be anxious[x] for your life as to what you may eat or what you may drink, nor for your body as to what you may put-on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the heaven— that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather into barns. And your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth more than they? 27 And which of you while being anxious is able to add one cubit[y] upon his life-span? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Observe-closely the lilies of the field, how they grow— they do not labor nor spin. 29 But I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 But if God dresses in this manner the grass of the field existing today and being thrown into an oven tomorrow, will He not by much more care for you— ones of-little-faith? 31 Therefore, do not be anxious[z], saying, ‘What may we eat?’ or ‘What may we drink?’ or ‘What may we put-on?’ 32 For the Gentiles are seeking-after all these things. For your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. 33 But be seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is the trouble[aa] of it.

Matej 6
Biblija: suvremeni hrvatski prijevod
2 Stoga, kada daješ siromašnima, nemoj to javno objaviti.
9 Zato molite ovako:
‘Oče naš, koji jesi na nebesima,
sveti se ime tvoje.
10 Neka dođe Kraljevstvo tvoje.
Neka bude volja tvoja,
kako na Nebu tako i na Zemlji.
11 Kruh naš svagdašnji daj nam danas
12 i oprosti nam naše dugove,
kako i mi opraštamo svojim dužnicima.
13 Ne uvedi nas u kušnju,
nego nas zaštiti od zla[a].’[b]
14 Da, ako vi oprostite ljudima njihove pogreške, onda će i vaš Otac nebeski vama oprostiti vaše. 15 No ako vi ne oprostite drugima njihove pogreške, ni vaš Otac neće vama oprostiti vaše.«
Nebesko bogatstvo
(Lk 12,33-34)
19 »Ne skupljajte sebi bogatstvo na zemlji! Tu će ga moljci i hrđa uništiti, a lopovi mogu provaliti i ukrasti ga. 20 Radije skupljajte sebi bogatstvo na nebu! Ondje ga moljci i hrđa ne mogu uništiti niti lopovi mogu provaliti i ukrasti ga. 21 Jer, srce će ti biti ondje gdje ti je bogatstvo.«
Svjetlo i tama
(Lk 11,34-36)
(Lk 12,22-34)
Matthew 6
New International Version
Giving to the Needy
6 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them.(A) If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.(B)
Prayer(C)
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing(D) in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father,(E) who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling(F) like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.(G) 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need(H) before you ask him.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father(I) in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom(J) come,
your will be done,(K)
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.(L)
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.(M)
13 And lead us not into temptation,[a](N)
but deliver us from the evil one.[b]’(O)
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.(P) 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.(Q)
Fasting
16 “When you fast,(R) do not look somber(S) as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.(T)
Treasures in Heaven(U)
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,(V) where moths and vermin destroy,(W) and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,(X) where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.(Y) 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.(Z)
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[c] your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,[d] your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.(AA)
Do Not Worry(AB)
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry(AC) about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.(AD) Are you not much more valuable than they?(AE) 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?(AF)
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor(AG) was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?(AH) 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.(AI) 33 But seek first his kingdom(AJ) and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.(AK) 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Matteus 6
9 Be i stedet på denne måten:
Fader vår,
du som er i himmelen!
La ditt navn holdes hellig.
10 La ditt rike komme.[c]
La din ville skje på jorden
som i himmelen.
11 Gi oss i dag vårt daglige brød.
12 Forlat oss vår skyld,
som vi og forlater
våre skyldnere.
13 Led oss ikke inn i fristelse,
men frels oss fra det onde.
For riket er ditt,
og makten og æren i evighet.
Amen.
24 Ingen kan tjene to herrer samtidig.
