But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father,(A) who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling(B) like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.(C) Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need(D) before you ask him.

    What can mere mortals do to me?(B)
The Lord is with me; he is my helper.(C)
    I look in triumph on my enemies.(D)

It is better to take refuge in the Lord(E)
    than to trust in humans.(F)
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    than to trust in princes.(G)
10 All the nations surrounded me,
    but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.(H)
11 They surrounded me(I) on every side,(J)
    but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
12 They swarmed around me like bees,(K)
    but they were consumed as quickly as burning thorns;(L)
    in the name of the Lord I cut them down.(M)
13 I was pushed back and about to fall,
    but the Lord helped me.(N)
14 The Lord is my strength(O) and my defense[a];
    he has become my salvation.(P)

15 Shouts of joy(Q) and victory
    resound in the tents of the righteous:
“The Lord’s right hand(R) has done mighty things!(S)
16     The Lord’s right hand is lifted high;
    the Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!”
17 I will not die(T) but live,
    and will proclaim(U) what the Lord has done.
