Matthew 6:6-8

New International Version

⁶But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father,^(A) who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. ⁷And when you pray, do not keep on babbling^(B) like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.^(C) ⁸Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need^(D) before you ask him.

What can mere mortals do to me?^(B)

I look in triumph on my enemies.^(D)

⁸It is better to take refuge in the Lord^(E)
    than to trust in humans.^(F)
⁹It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    than to trust in princes.^(G)
¹⁰All the nations surrounded me,
    but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.^(H)
¹¹They surrounded me^(I) on every side,^(J)
    but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
¹²They swarmed around me like bees,^(K)
    but they were consumed as quickly as burning thorns;^(L)
    in the name of the Lord I cut them down.^(M)
¹³I was pushed back and about to fall,
    but the Lord helped me.^(N)
