²⁴ “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.^(A)

Do Not Worry^(B)

²⁵ “Therefore I tell you, do not worry^(C) about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? ²⁶ Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.^(D) Are you not much more valuable than they?^{(E) 27} Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life^[a]?^(F)

²⁸ “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. ²⁹ Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor^(G) was dressed like one of these. ³⁰ If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?^{(H) 31} So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ ³² For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.^{(I) 33} But seek first his kingdom^(J) and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.^{(K) 34} Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

³⁴ “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. ³⁵ For I have come to turn

³⁷ “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.^{(C) 38} Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.^{(D) 39} Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.^(E)

²³ Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan!^(A) You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

²⁴ Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.^{(B) 25} For whoever wants to save their life^[a] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.^{(C) 26} What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? ²⁷ For the Son of Man^(D) is going to come^(E) in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.^(F)

²⁸ “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

⁴¹ “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried^(A) and upset about many things, ⁴² but few things are needed—or indeed only one.^[a](B) Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Do Not Worry^(A)

³² “Do not be afraid,^(I) little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.^{(J) 33} Sell your possessions and give to the poor.^(K) Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven^(L) that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.^{(M) 34} For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.^(N)
