⁵ Blessed are the meek,
    for they will inherit the earth.^(A)
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.^(B)
7 Blessed are the merciful,
    for they will be shown mercy.^(C)
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,^(D)
    for they will see God.^(E)

⁷ The law of the Lord^(A) is perfect,^(B)
    refreshing the soul.^(C)
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,^(D)
    making wise the simple.^(E)
8 The precepts of the Lord are right,^(F)
    giving joy^(G) to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
    giving light to the eyes.^(H)
9 The fear of the Lord^(I) is pure,
    enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm,
    and all of them are righteous.^(J)

¹⁰ They are more precious than gold,^(K)
    than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,^(L)
    than honey from the honeycomb.^(M)
11 By them your servant is warned;
    in keeping them there is great reward.

¹¹ Why, my soul, are you downcast?
    Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
    for I will yet praise him,
    my Savior and my God.^(A)

⁴ The one who has clean hands^(A) and a pure heart,^(B)
    who does not trust in an idol^(C)
    or swear by a false god.^[a]

⁵ They will receive blessing^(D) from the Lord
    and vindication^(E) from God their Savior.
