³⁹ But I say to you, ^(A)Do not resist the one who is evil. But ^(B)if anyone ^(C)slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

¹⁵ See that ^(A)no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always ^(B)seek to do good to one another and to everyone.

^9 (A)Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, ^(B)bless, for ^(C)to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.

^17 (A)Repay no one evil for evil, but ^(B)give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. ¹⁸ If possible, so far as it depends on you, ^(C)live peaceably with all. ¹⁹ Beloved, ^(D)never avenge yourselves, but leave it^[a] to the wrath of God, for it is written, ^(E)“Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

^29 (A)To one who ^(B)strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic^[a] either. ^30 (C)Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back.

²⁰ For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But ^(A)if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. ²¹ For ^(B)to this you have been called, ^(C)because Christ also suffered for you, ^(D)leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. ^22 (E)He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. ^23 (F)When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, ^(G)but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.

^18 (A)You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but ^(B)you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.
