Matthew 5:37-48
New International Version
37 All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’;(A) anything beyond this comes from the evil one.[a](B)
Eye for Eye
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’[b](C) 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.(D) 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.(E)
Love for Enemies
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[c](F) and hate your enemy.’(G) 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,(H) 45 that you may be children(I) of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.(J) 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?(K) Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.(L)

English Standard Version
37 Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; (A)anything more than this comes from evil.[a]
Retaliation
38 (B)“You have heard that it was said, (C)‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, (D)Do not resist the one who is evil. But (E)if anyone (F)slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And (G)if anyone would sue you and take your tunic,[b] let him have your cloak as well. 41 And if anyone (H)forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 (I)Give to the one who begs from you, and (J)do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.
Love Your Enemies
43 (K)“You have heard that it was said, (L)‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, (M)Love your enemies and (N)pray for those who persecute you, 45 (O)so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and (P)sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 (Q)For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers,[c] what more are you doing than others? Do not even (R)the Gentiles do the same? 48 (S)You therefore must be (T)perfect, (U)as your heavenly Father is perfect.

37 But let your statement be, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is [a]of (A)evil.
38 “(B)You have heard that it was said, ‘(C)An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but (D)whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40 If anyone wants to sue you and take your [b]shirt, let him have your [c]coat also. 41 Whoever [d]forces you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 (E)Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.
43 “(F)You have heard that it was said, ‘(G)You shall love your neighbor (H)and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, (I)love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may [e]be (J)sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 For (K)if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 Therefore [f](L)you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
