27 (A)You have heard that it was said, ‘(B)You shall not commit adultery’; 28 but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman (C)with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 Now (D)if your right eye is causing you to sin, tear it out and throw it away from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, [a]than for your whole body to be thrown into [b](E)hell. 30 And (F)if your right hand is causing you to sin, cut it off and throw it away from you; for it is better for you [c]to lose one of the parts of your body, [d]than for your whole body to go into [e](G)hell.

31 “Now it was said, ‘(H)Whoever sends his wife away is to give her a certificate of divorce’; 32 (I)but I say to you that everyone who [f]divorces his wife, except for the reason of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a [g]divorced woman commits adultery.

The Rich Man and Lazarus

19 “Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, enjoying himself in splendor every day. 20 And a poor man named Lazarus (B)was laid at his gate, covered with sores, 21 and longing to be fed from the scraps which fell from the rich man’s table; not only that, the dogs also were coming and licking his sores. 22 Now it happened that the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to [c](C)Abraham’s arms; and the rich man also died and was buried. 23 And in (D)Hades he raised his eyes, being in torment, and *saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his [d]arms. 24 And he cried out and said, ‘(E)Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus, so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in (F)this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that (G)during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony. 26 And [e]besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set, so that those who want to go over from here to you will not be able, nor will any people cross over from there to us.’ 27 And he said, ‘Then I request of you, father, that you send him to my father’s house— 28 for I have five brothers—in order that he may (H)warn them, so that they will not come to this place of torment as well.’ 29 But Abraham *said, ‘They have [f](I)Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ 30 But he said, ‘No, (J)father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’ 31 But he said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’”

14 Yet you say, “For what reason?” Because the Lord has been a witness between you and the (A)wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt (B)treacherously, though she is your marriage companion and your wife by covenant. 15 [a]But not one has (C)done so who has a remnant of the Spirit. And [b]why the one? He was seeking a (D)godly offspring. Be careful then about your spirit, and see that none of you deals (E)treacherously against the wife of your youth.
