Jesus and the Devil
(Mark 1.12,13; Luke 4.1-13)
4 (A) The Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert, so that the devil could test him. 2 After Jesus had gone without eating[a] for 40 days and nights, he was very hungry. 3 Then the devil came to him and said, “If you are God's Son, tell these stones to turn into bread.”
4 (B) Jesus answered, “The Scriptures say:
‘No one can live only on food.
People need every word
that God has spoken.’ ”
5 Next, the devil took Jesus into the holy city to the highest part of the temple. 6 (C) The devil said, “If you are God's Son, jump off. The Scriptures say:
‘God will give his angels
orders about you.
They will catch you
in their arms,
and you won't hurt
your feet on the stones.’ ”
7 (D) Jesus answered, “The Scriptures also say, ‘Don't try to test the Lord your God!’ ”
8 Finally, the devil took Jesus up on a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms on earth and their power. 9 The devil said to him, “I will give all this to you, if you will bow down and worship me.”
10 (E) Jesus answered, “Go away Satan! The Scriptures say:
‘Worship the Lord your God
and serve only him.’ ”
11 Then the devil left Jesus, and angels came to help him.
Jesus Begins His Work
(Mark 1.14,15; Luke 4.14,15)
12 (F) When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he went to Galilee. 13 (G) But instead of staying in Nazareth, Jesus moved to Capernaum. This town was beside Lake Galilee in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali.[b] 14 So God's promise came true, just as the prophet Isaiah had said,
15 (H) “Listen, lands of Zebulun
and Naphtali,
lands along the road
to the sea
and across the Jordan.
Listen Galilee,
land of the Gentiles!
16 Although your people
live in darkness,
they will see
a bright light.
Although they live
in the shadow of death,
a light will shine
on them.”
17 (I) Then Jesus started preaching, “Turn back to God! The kingdom of heaven will soon be here.”[c]
Jesus Chooses Four Fishermen
(Mark 1.16-20; Luke 5.1-11)
18 While Jesus was walking along the shore of Lake Galilee, he saw two brothers. One was Simon, also known as Peter, and the other was Andrew. They were fishermen, and they were casting their net into the lake. 19 Jesus said to them, “Follow me! I will teach you how to bring in people instead of fish.” 20 Right then the two brothers dropped their nets and went with him.
21 Jesus walked on until he saw James and John, the sons of Zebedee. They were in a boat with their father, mending their nets. Jesus asked them to come with him. 22 At once they left the boat and their father and went with Jesus.
Jesus Teaches, Preaches, and Heals
(Luke 6.17-19)
23 (J) Jesus went all over Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the good news about God's kingdom. He also healed every kind of disease and sickness. 24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people with every kind of sickness or disease were brought to him. Some of them had a lot of demons in them, others were thought to be crazy,[d] and still others could not walk. But Jesus healed them all.
25 Large crowds followed Jesus from Galilee and the region around the ten cities known as Decapolis.[e] They also came from Jerusalem, Judea, and from across the Jordan River.

- 4.2 without eating: The Jewish people sometimes went without eating (also called “fasting”) to show their love for God or to show sorrow for their sins.
- 4.13 Zebulun and Naphtali: In Old Testament times these tribes were in northern Palestine, and in New Testament times many Gentiles lived where these tribes had once been.
- 4.17 The kingdom of heaven will soon be here: See the two notes at 3.2.
- 4.24 thought to be crazy: In ancient times people with epilepsy were thought to be crazy.
- 4.25 the ten cities known as Decapolis: A group of ten cities east of Samaria and Galilee, where the people followed the Greek way of life.

4 Luego el Espíritu llevó a Jesús al desierto para ser tentado por el diablo. 2 Después de ayunar cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, tuvo hambre. 3 El tentador se acercó y le propuso:
—Si eres el Hijo de Dios, ordena a estas piedras que se conviertan en pan.
4 Jesús respondió:
—Escrito está: “No solo de pan vive el hombre, sino de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios”.[a]
5 Luego el diablo lo llevó a la ciudad santa e hizo que se pusiera de pie sobre la parte más alta del Templo 6 y le dijo:
—Si eres el Hijo de Dios, tírate abajo. Pues escrito está:
»“Ordenará que sus ángeles te protejan
y ellos te sostendrán en sus manos
para que no tropieces con piedra alguna”».[b]
7 —También está escrito: “No pongas a prueba al Señor tu Dios”[c] —contestó Jesús.
8 De nuevo el diablo lo llevó a una montaña muy alta. Allí le mostró todos los reinos del mundo y su esplendor. 9 Y le dijo:
—Todo esto te daré si te postras y me adoras.
10 —¡Vete, Satanás! —dijo Jesús—. Porque escrito está: “Adora al Señor tu Dios y sírvele solamente a él”.[d]
11 Entonces el diablo lo dejó y ángeles acudieron a servirle.
Jesús comienza a predicar
12 Cuando Jesús oyó que habían encarcelado a Juan, regresó a Galilea. 13 Partió de Nazaret y se fue a vivir a Capernaúm, que está junto al lago en la región de Zabulón y de Neftalí, 14 para cumplir lo dicho por el profeta Isaías:
15 «Tierra de Zabulón y tierra de Neftalí,
desde el Camino del Mar, al otro lado del Jordán,
Galilea de los gentiles;
16 el pueblo que habitaba en la oscuridad
ha visto una gran luz;
sobre los que vivían en tierra de sombra de muerte
una luz ha resplandecido».[e]
17 Desde entonces comenzó Jesús a predicar: «Arrepiéntanse, porque el reino de los cielos está cerca».
Jesús llama a sus primeros discípulos(B)
18 Mientras caminaba junto al lago de Galilea, Jesús vio a dos hermanos: uno era Simón, llamado Pedro, y el otro, Andrés. Estaban echando la red al lago, pues eran pescadores. 19 «Vengan, síganme —dijo Jesús—, y los haré pescadores de hombres». 20 Al instante dejaron las redes y lo siguieron.
21 Más adelante vio a otros dos hermanos: Santiago y Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, que estaban con su padre en una barca remendando las redes. Jesús los llamó 22 y dejaron enseguida la barca y a su padre para seguirlo.
Jesús sana a los enfermos
23 Jesús recorría toda Galilea enseñando en las sinagogas, anunciando las buenas noticias del reino y sanando toda enfermedad y dolencia entre la gente. 24 Su fama se extendió por toda Siria y le llevaban todos los que padecían de diversas enfermedades, los que sufrían de dolores graves, los endemoniados, los epilépticos y los paralíticos, y él los sanaba. 25 Lo seguían grandes multitudes de Galilea, Decápolis, Jerusalén, Judea y de la región al otro lado del Jordán.

4 Тогда Иисус возведен был Духом в пустыню, для искушения от диавола,
2 и, постившись сорок дней и сорок ночей, напоследок взалкал.
3 И приступил к Нему искуситель и сказал: если Ты Сын Божий, скажи, чтобы камни сии сделались хлебами.
4 Он же сказал ему в ответ: написано: не хлебом одним будет жить человек, но всяким словом, исходящим из уст Божиих.
5 Потом берет Его диавол в святой город и поставляет Его на крыле храма,
6 и говорит Ему: если Ты Сын Божий, бросься вниз, ибо написано: Ангелам Своим заповедает о Тебе, и на руках понесут Тебя, да не преткнешься о камень ногою Твоею.
7 Иисус сказал ему: написано также: не искушай Господа Бога твоего.
8 Опять берет Его диавол на весьма высокую гору и показывает Ему все царства мира и славу их,
9 и говорит Ему: всё это дам Тебе, если, пав, поклонишься мне.
10 Тогда Иисус говорит ему: отойди от Меня, сатана, ибо написано: Господу Богу твоему поклоняйся и Ему одному служи.
11 Тогда оставляет Его диавол, и се, Ангелы приступили и служили Ему.
12 Услышав же Иисус, что Иоанн отдан [под стражу], удалился в Галилею
13 и, оставив Назарет, пришел и поселился в Капернауме приморском, в пределах Завулоновых и Неффалимовых,
14 да сбудется реченное через пророка Исаию, который говорит:
15 земля Завулонова и земля Неффалимова, на пути приморском, за Иорданом, Галилея языческая,
16 народ, сидящий во тьме, увидел свет великий, и сидящим в стране и тени смертной воссиял свет.
17 С того времени Иисус начал проповедывать и говорить: покайтесь, ибо приблизилось Царство Небесное.
18 Проходя же близ моря Галилейского, Он увидел двух братьев: Симона, называемого Петром, и Андрея, брата его, закидывающих сети в море, ибо они были рыболовы,
19 и говорит им: идите за Мною, и Я сделаю вас ловцами человеков.
20 И они тотчас, оставив сети, последовали за Ним.
21 Оттуда, идя далее, увидел Он других двух братьев, Иакова Зеведеева и Иоанна, брата его, в лодке с Зеведеем, отцом их, починивающих сети свои, и призвал их.
22 И они тотчас, оставив лодку и отца своего, последовали за Ним.
23 И ходил Иисус по всей Галилее, уча в синагогах их и проповедуя Евангелие Царствия, и исцеляя всякую болезнь и всякую немощь в людях.
24 И прошел о Нем слух по всей Сирии; и приводили к Нему всех немощных, одержимых различными болезнями и припадками, и бесноватых, и лунатиков, и расслабленных, и Он исцелял их.
25 И следовало за Ним множество народа из Галилеи и Десятиградия, и Иерусалима, и Иудеи, и из-за Иордана.
