² And after He had ^(A)fasted for forty days and forty nights, He ^[a]then became hungry. ³ And ^(B)the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the ^(C)Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” ⁴ But He answered and said, “It is written: ‘^(D)Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.’”

^18 (A)Now in the early morning, when He was returning to the city, He became hungry.

^12 (A)On the next day, when they had left Bethany, He became hungry.

² for ^(A)forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He was hungry. ³ And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” ⁴ And Jesus answered him, “It is written: ‘^(B)Man shall not live on bread alone.’”

⁸ For His ^(A)disciples had gone away to ^(B)the city to buy food.
