The Temptation of Jesus
4 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 He fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterwards he was famished. 3 The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” 4 But he answered, “It is written,
‘One does not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and placed him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 saying to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written,
‘He will command his angels concerning you,’
and ‘On their hands they will bear you up,
so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.’”
7 Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor; 9 and he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” 10 Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! for it is written,
‘Worship the Lord your God,
and serve only him.’”
11 Then the devil left him, and suddenly angels came and waited on him.

4 (A)Allora Gesù fu condotto dallo Spirito nel deserto, per essere tentato dal diavolo. 2 E, dopo aver digiunato quaranta giorni e quaranta notti, alla fine ebbe fame. 3 E il tentatore, avvicinatosi, gli disse[a]: «Se tu sei Figlio di Dio, ordina che queste pietre diventino pani». 4 Ma egli rispose: «Sta scritto: “Non di pane soltanto vivrà l’uomo, ma di ogni parola che proviene dalla bocca di Dio”[b]».
5 Allora il diavolo lo portò con sé nella città santa, lo pose sul pinnacolo del tempio, 6 e gli disse: «Se tu sei Figlio di Dio, gettati giù; poiché sta scritto:
“Egli darà ordini ai suoi angeli a tuo riguardo”[c] e “Essi ti porteranno sulle loro mani, perché tu non urti col piede contro una pietra”[d]».
7 Gesù gli rispose: «È altresì scritto: “Non tentare il Signore Dio tuo”[e]».
8 Di nuovo il diavolo lo portò con sé sopra un monte altissimo, gli mostrò tutti i regni del mondo e la loro gloria e gli disse: 9 «Tutte queste cose ti darò, se tu ti prostri e mi adori». 10 Allora Gesù gli disse: «Vattene[f], Satana, poiché sta scritto: “Adora il Signore Dio tuo e a lui solo rendi il culto”[g]».
11 Allora il diavolo lo lasciò, ed ecco degli angeli si avvicinarono a lui e lo servivano.

Die Versuchung Jesu
4 Darauf wurde Jesus vom Geist in die Wüste geführt, damit er vom Teufel[a] versucht würde.
2 Und als er 40 Tage und 40 Nächte gefastet hatte, war er zuletzt hungrig.
3 Und der Versucher trat zu ihm und sprach: Wenn du Gottes Sohn bist, so sprich, dass diese Steine Brot werden!
4 Er aber antwortete und sprach: Es steht geschrieben: »Der Mensch lebt nicht vom Brot allein, sondern von einem jeden Wort, das aus dem Mund Gottes hervorgeht!«[b]
5 Darauf nimmt ihn der Teufel mit sich in die heilige Stadt und stellt ihn auf die Zinne des Tempels
6 und spricht zu ihm: Wenn du Gottes Sohn bist, so stürze dich hinab; denn es steht geschrieben: »Er wird seinen Engeln deinetwegen Befehl geben, und sie werden dich auf den Händen tragen, damit du deinen Fuß nicht etwa an einen Stein stößt«.[c]
7 Da sprach Jesus zu ihm: Wiederum steht geschrieben: »Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, nicht versuchen!«[d]
8 Wiederum nimmt ihn der Teufel mit auf einen sehr hohen Berg und zeigt ihm alle Reiche der Welt und ihre Herrlichkeit
9 und spricht zu ihm: Dieses alles will ich dir geben, wenn du niederfällst und mich anbetest!
10 Da spricht Jesus zu ihm: Weiche, Satan! Denn es steht geschrieben: »Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, anbeten und ihm allein dienen!«[e]
11 Da verließ ihn der Teufel; und siehe, Engel[f] traten hinzu und dienten ihm.

4 Ezután a Szent Szellem a pusztába vezette Jézust, hogy ott próbára tegye a Sátán. 2 Miután Jézus negyven nap és negyven éjjel böjtölt, végül nagyon megéhezett. 3 A Sátán[a] ekkor odalépett hozzá, és megszólította: „Ha Isten Fia vagy, parancsolj, hogy ezek a kövek változzanak kenyérré!”
4 Ő azonban így felelt: „Meg van írva:
»Nem csak a kenyér élteti az embert,
hanem Isten minden kimondott szava is.«”[b]
5 Ezután a szent városba, Jeruzsálembe vitte őt a Sátán, és a Templom területének szélére, egy szakadék fölé állította. 6 „Ha Isten Fia vagy — mondta neki —, vesd le magad a mélybe, hiszen meg van írva:
»Angyalainak parancsot ad,
hogy vigyázzanak rád.
A tenyerükön hordoznak,
nehogy kőbe üsd a lábad.«”[c]
7 Jézus így válaszolt: „Az is meg van írva:
»Ne tedd próbára az Örökkévalót, Istenedet!«”[d]

4 Alors l’Esprit conduisit Jésus dans le désert pour qu’il y soit tenté par le diable. 2 Après avoir jeûné pendant quarante jours et quarante nuits, il eut faim. 3 Le tentateur s’approcha et lui dit : Si tu es le Fils de Dieu, ordonne que ces pierres se changent en pains.
4 Jésus répondit : Il est écrit :
L’homme ne vivra pas seulement de pain,
mais aussi de toute parole que Dieu prononce[a] .
5 Alors le diable l’emmena dans la cité sainte, le plaça tout en haut du Temple 6 et lui dit : Si tu es le Fils de Dieu, jette-toi en bas, car il est écrit :
Il donnera des ordres |à ses anges à ton sujet
et ils te porteront sur leurs mains
pour que ton pied ne heurte pas de pierre[b] .
7 Jésus lui dit : Il est aussi écrit : Tu ne forceras pas la main au Seigneur, ton Dieu[c].
8 Le diable l’emmena encore sur une très haute montagne. Là, il lui montra tous les royaumes du monde et leur magnificence. 9 Puis il lui dit : Tout cela, je te le donnerai si tu te prosternes devant moi pour m’adorer.
10 Alors Jésus lui dit : Va-t’en, Satan ! Car il est écrit :
Tu adoreras le Seigneur, ton Dieu,
et c’est à lui seul que tu rendras un culte[d] .
11 Là-dessus, le diable le laissa. Et voici que des anges vinrent et se mirent à le servir.
