¹⁶ As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened,^(A) and he saw the Spirit of God^(B) descending like a dove and alighting on him.

²⁶ While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it^(A) and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”

²⁷ Then he took a cup,^(B) and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. ²⁸ This is my blood of the^[a] covenant,^(C) which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.^(D)

¹² But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God^(A) and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized,^(B) both men and women.

^{[37] [a] 38} And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. ³⁹ When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away,^(A) and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.

⁴ We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death^(A) in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead^(B) through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.^(C)
