The Guards Report to the High Priests

11 While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and told the high priests everything that had happened. 12 So they met with the elders and agreed on a plan to give the soldiers a large[a] amount of money. 13 They said, “Say that Jesus’[b] disciples came at night and stole him while you were sleeping. 14 If this is reported to the governor, we’ll personally persuade him to keep you out of trouble.”[c] 15 So the soldiers[d] took the money, did as they were instructed, and this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.

11 And while[a] they were going, behold, some of the guard of soldiers went into the city and[b] reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 And after they[c] had assembled with the elders and had taken counsel, they gave a rather large sum of money to the soldiers, 13 telling them,[d] “Say ‘His disciples came during the night and[e] stole him while[f] we were sleeping.’ 14 And if this matter is heard before the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.”[g] 15 So they took the money and[h] did as they were told, and spread abroad this report among the Jews until this very day.
