Jesus Comes Back to Life(A)

28 After the day of rest—a holy day, as the sun rose Sunday morning, Mary from Magdala and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

Suddenly, there was a powerful earthquake. An angel of the Lord had come down from heaven, rolled the stone away, and was sitting on it. He was as bright as lightning, and his clothes were as white as snow. The guards were so deathly afraid of him that they shook.

The angel said to the women, “Don’t be afraid! I know you’re looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He’s not here. He has been brought back to life as he said. Come, see the place where he was lying. Then go quickly, and tell his disciples that he has been brought back to life. He’s going ahead of them into Galilee. There they will see him. Take note that I have told you.”

They hurried away from the tomb with fear and great joy and ran to tell his disciples.

Suddenly, Jesus met them and greeted them. They went up to him, bowed down to worship him, and took hold of his feet.

10 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid! Go, tell my followers to go to Galilee. There they will see me.”

The Guards Report to the Chief Priests

11 While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city. They told the chief priests everything that had happened.

12 The chief priests gathered together with the leaders and agreed on a plan. They gave the soldiers a large amount of money 13 and told them to say that Jesus’ disciples had come at night and had stolen his body while they were sleeping. 14 ⌞They added,⌟ “If the governor hears about it, we’ll take care of it, and you’ll have nothing to worry about.”

15 The soldiers took the money and did as they were told. Their story has been spread among the Jewish people to this day.

Jesus Gives Instructions to the Disciples

16 The eleven disciples went to the mountain in Galilee where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they bowed down in worship, though some had doubts.

18 When Jesus came near, he spoke to them. He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 So wherever you go, make disciples of all nations: Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach them to do everything I have commanded you.

“And remember that I am always with you until the end of time.”

He Is Risen(A)

28 Now (B)after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene (C)and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for (D)an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone [a]from the door, and sat on it. (E)His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like (F)dead men.

But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, (G)as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed (H)He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”

So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.

The Women Worship the Risen Lord

And [b]as they went to tell His disciples, behold, (I)Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell (J)My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.”

The Soldiers Are Bribed

11 Now while they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all the things that had happened. 12 When they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, 13 saying, “Tell them, ‘His disciples came at night and stole Him away while we slept.’ 14 And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will appease him and make you secure.” 15 So they took the money and did as they were instructed; and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.

The Great Commission(K)

16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain (L)which Jesus had appointed for them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some (M)doubted.

18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, (N)“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 (O)Go [c]therefore and (P)make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 (Q)teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am (R)with you always, even to the end of the age.” [d]Amen.

Jesus Has Risen(A)

28 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene(B) and the other Mary(C) went to look at the tomb.

There was a violent earthquake,(D) for an angel(E) of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone(F) and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.(G) The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid,(H) for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.(I) Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee.(J) There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them.(K) “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers(L) to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

The Guards’ Report

11 While the women were on their way, some of the guards(M) went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, 13 telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away(N) while we were asleep.’ 14 If this report gets to the governor,(O) we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.

The Great Commission

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.(P) 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.(Q) 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,(R) baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,(S) 20 and teaching(T) them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you(U) always, to the very end of the age.”(V)

10 Tunc ait illis Jesus: Nolite timere: ite, nuntiate fratribus meis ut eant in Galilaeam; ibi me videbunt.

15 At illi, accepta pecunia, fecerunt sicut erant edocti. Et divulgatum est verbum istud apud Judaeos, usque in hodiernum diem.

16 Undecim autem discipuli abierunt in Galilaeam in montem ubi constituerat illis Jesus.

17 Et videntes eum adoraverunt: quidam autem dubitaverunt.

18 Et accedens Jesus locutus est eis, dicens: Data est mihi omnis potestas in caelo et in terra:

19 euntes ergo docete omnes gentes: baptizantes eos in nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti:

20 docentes eos servare omnia quaecumque mandavi vobis: et ecce ego vobiscum sum omnibus diebus, usque ad consummationem saeculi.
