Matthew 28

Resurrection
28 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the tomb. 2 Look, there was a great earthquake, for an angel from the Lord came down from heaven. Coming to the stone, he rolled it away and sat on it. 3 Now his face was like lightning and his clothes as white as snow. 4 The guards were so terrified of him that they shook with fear and became like dead men. 5 But the angel said to the women, “Don’t be afraid. I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. 6 He isn’t here, because he’s been raised from the dead, just as he said. Come, see the place where they laid him. 7 Now hurry, go and tell his disciples, ‘He’s been raised from the dead. He’s going on ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there.’ I’ve given the message to you.”
8 With great fear and excitement, they hurried away from the tomb and ran to tell his disciples. 9 But Jesus met them and greeted them. They came and grabbed his feet and worshipped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Go and tell my brothers that I am going into Galilee. They will see me there.”
Guards’ report
11 Now as the women were on their way, some of the guards came into the city and told the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 They met with the elders and decided to give a large sum of money to the soldiers. 13 They told them, “Say that Jesus’ disciples came at night and stole his body while you were sleeping. 14 And if the governor hears about this, we will take care of it with him so you will have nothing to worry about.” 15 So the soldiers took the money and did as they were told. And this report has spread throughout all Judea to this very day.
Commissioning of the disciples
16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshipped him, but some doubted. 18 Jesus came near and spoke to them, “I’ve received all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to obey everything that I’ve commanded you. Look, I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age.”
Matthew 28
1599 Geneva Bible
28 1 The women go to the sepulcher. 2 The Angel. 9 The women see Christ. 18 He sendeth his Apostles to preach.
1 Now (A)in [a]the [b]end of the Sabbath, when the first day of the week [c]began to dawn, Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, came to see the sepulcher.
2 And behold, there was a great earthquake: for the Angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
3 And his [d]countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow.
4 And for fear of him, the keepers were astonied, and became as dead men.
5 But the Angel answered, and said to the women, Fear [e]ye not: for I know that ye seek Jesus which was crucified:
6 He is not here, for he is risen, as he said: come, see the place where the Lord was laid,
7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead: and behold, he goeth before you into Galilee: there ye shall see him: lo, I have told you.
8 So they departed quickly from the sepulcher, with fear and great joy, and did run to bring his disciples word.
9 [f]And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus also met them, saying, God save you. And they came, and took him by the feet, and worshipped him.
10 Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid. Go, and tell my brethren, that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.
11 ¶ [g]Now when they were gone, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and showed unto the high Priests all the things that were done.
12 And they gathered them together with the Elders, and took counsel, and gave large money unto the soldiers,
13 Saying, Say, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.
14 And if this matter [h]come before the governor to be heard, we will persuade him, and so use the matter that you shall not need to care,
15 So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is noised among the Jews unto this day.
16 ¶ [i]Then the eleven disciples went into Galilee, into a mountain, where Jesus had appointed them.
17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came, and spake unto them, saying, (B)All power is given unto me, in heaven, and in earth.
19 (C)[j]Go therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them [k]in the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the holy Ghost,
20 Teaching them to observe all things, whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, (D)I am with you [l]alway, until the end of the world, Amen.
