⁵ The angel told the women, “Don’t be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified.^{(A) 6} He is not here. For he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.^(B)

⁶ “Don’t be alarmed,” he told them. “You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth,^(A) who was crucified. He has risen!^(B) He is not here. See the place where they put him.

⁵ So the women were terrified and bowed down to the ground.

“Why are you looking for the living among the dead?” asked the men. ⁶ “He is not here, but he has risen!^(A) Remember how he spoke to you when he was still in Galilee,^{(B) 7} saying, ‘It is necessary that the Son of Man be betrayed^(C) into the hands of sinful men, be crucified, and rise^(D) on the third day’?” ⁸ And they remembered his words.

³⁴ who said, “The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon!” ^(A)

²⁵ Jesus said to her, “I am^(A) the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me,^(B) even if he dies, will live.^(C)

⁹ For they did not yet understand the Scripture^(A) that he must rise^(B) from the dead.^(C)

¹⁵ “Woman,” Jesus said to her, “why are you crying? Who is it that you’re seeking?”

Supposing he was the gardener, she replied, “Sir, if you’ve carried him away, tell me where you’ve put him, and I will take him away.”

¹⁶ Jesus said to her, “Mary.”

Turning around, she said to him in Aramaic,^[a] “Rabboni!”—which means “Teacher.”^(A)

¹⁷ “Don’t cling to me,” Jesus told her, “since I have not yet ascended^(B) to the Father.^(C) But go to my brothers^(D) and tell them that I am ascending to my Father^(E) and your Father, to my God^(F) and your God.”

¹⁸ Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord!” ^(G) And she told them what^[b] he had said to her.
