The Great Commission

16 The eleven disciples traveled to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them.(A) 17 When they saw him, they worshiped,[a] but some doubted. 18 Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.(B) 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples(C) of[b] all nations,(D) baptizing(E) them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember,[c] I am with you always,[d] to the end of the age.”(F)

The Great Commission

14 Later he appeared to the Eleven(A) themselves as they were reclining at the table. He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who saw him after he had risen.(B) 15 Then(C) he said to them, “Go into all the world(D) and preach the gospel to all creation.(E) 16 Whoever believes(F) and is baptized will be saved,(G) but whoever does not believe will be condemned.(H) 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;[a] 18 they will pick up snakes; [b](I) if they should drink anything deadly, it will not harm(J) them; they will lay hands on(K) the sick, and they will get well.”

The Ascension

19 So the Lord Jesus, after speaking to them,(L) was taken up into heaven(M) and sat down at the right hand(N) of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word by the accompanying signs.]

46 He also said to them, “This is what is written:[a] The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead the third day,(A) 47 and repentance for[b] forgiveness of sins(B) will be proclaimed in his name to all the nations,(C) beginning at Jerusalem.(D) 48 You are witnesses(E) of these things. 49 And look, I am sending you[c] what my Father promised.(F) As for you, stay in the city[d] until you are empowered[e](G) from on high.”

The Ascension of Jesus

50 Then he led them out to the vicinity of Bethany,(H) and lifting up his hands(I) he blessed them. 51 And while he was blessing them, he left them and was carried up into heaven.(J)

The Holy Spirit Promised

While he was[a] with them, he commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the Father’s promise.(A) “Which,” he said, “you have heard me speak about; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit in a few days.”(B)

So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, are you restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time?”

He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority.(C) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”(D)

The Ascension

After he had said this, he was taken up as they were watching, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 While he was going, they were gazing into heaven, and suddenly two men in white clothes stood by them.(E) 11 They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up into heaven? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come in the same way that you have seen him going into heaven.”(F)
