The Great Commission

16 But the eleven disciples proceeded (A)to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated to them. 17 And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but (B)some [a]were doubtful. 18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, (C)All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. 19 [b](D)Go, therefore, and (E)make disciples of (F)all the nations, (G)baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to [c]follow all that I commanded you; and behold, (H)I am with you [d]always, to (I)the end of the age.”

28 And they approached the village where they were going, and (A)He gave the impression that He was going farther. 29 And so they strongly urged Him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day [a]is now nearly over.” So He went in to stay with them. 30 And it came about, when He had reclined at the table with them, that He took the bread and (B)blessed it, and He broke it and began giving it to them. 31 And then their (C)eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from [b]their sight. 32 They said to one another, “[c]Were our hearts not burning within us when He was speaking to us on the road, while He (D)was [d]explaining the Scriptures to us?” 33 And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and (E)found the eleven gathered together and (F)those who were with them, 34 saying, “(G)The Lord has really risen and (H)has appeared to Simon!” 35 They began to relate [e]their experiences on the road, and how (I)He was recognized by them at the breaking of the bread.

Other Appearances

36 Now while they were telling these things, (J)Jesus Himself suddenly stood in their midst and *said to them, “Peace be to you.” 37 But they were startled and frightened, and thought that they were looking at (K)a spirit. 38 And He said to them, “Why are you frightened, and why are doubts arising in your [f]hearts? 39 (L)See My hands and My feet, that [g]it is I Myself; (M)touch Me and see, because a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you plainly see that I have.” 40 And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. 41 While they still [h](N)could not believe it because of their joy and astonishment, He said to them, (O)Have you anything here to eat?” 42 They served Him a piece of broiled fish; 43 and He took it and (P)ate it in front of them.

44 Now He said to them, (Q)These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all the things that are written about Me in the (R)Law of Moses and the Prophets and (S)the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then He (T)opened their [i]minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and He said to them, (U)So it is written, that the [j]Christ would suffer and (V)rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and that (W)repentance [k]for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed [l]in His name to (X)all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are (Y)witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, (Z)I am sending the promise of My Father upon you; but (AA)you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

The Ascension

50 And He led them out as far as (AB)Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. 51 While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven. 52 And they, after worshiping Him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and were continually in the temple [m]praising God.

Jesus among His Disciples

19 Now when it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were [a]shut where the disciples were together due to (A)fear of the [b]Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and *said to them, (B)Peace be to you.” 20 And when He had said this, (C)He showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples then (D)rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 So Jesus said to them again, (E)Peace be to you; (F)just as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and *said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 (G)If you forgive the sins of any, their sins [c]have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.”

24 But (H)Thomas, one of (I)the twelve, who was called [d](J)Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in (K)His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, (L)I will not believe.”
