Jesus Is Mocked

27 (A)Then when the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into (B)the [a]Praetorium, they gathered the whole Roman [b](C)cohort around Him. 28 And they stripped Him and (D)put a scarlet robe on Him. 29 (E)And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a [c]reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “(F)Hail, King of the Jews!” 30 (G)And they spat on Him, and took the reed and began to beat Him on the head. 31 (H)When they had mocked Him, they took the scarlet robe off Him and put His own garments back on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him.

27 Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the imperial headquarters[a] and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28 They stripped[b] him and put a scarlet robe on him. 29 Twisting some thorns into a victor’s crown, they placed it on his head and put[c] a stick in his right hand. They knelt down in front of him and began making fun of him, saying, “Long live the king of the Jews!” 30 Then they spit on him and took the stick and hit him repeatedly on his head. 31 When they had finished making fun of him, they stripped him of the robe, put his own clothes back on him, and led him away to crucify him.
