27 When it was morning, the chief priests and Jewish leaders met again to discuss how to induce the Roman government to sentence Jesus to death.[a] Then they sent him in chains to Pilate, the Roman governor.

About that time Judas, who betrayed him, when he saw that Jesus had been condemned to die, changed his mind and deeply regretted what he had done,[b] and brought back the money to the chief priests and other Jewish leaders.

“I have sinned,” he declared, “for I have betrayed an innocent man.”

“That’s your problem,” they retorted.

Then he threw the money onto the floor of the Temple and went out and hanged himself. The chief priests picked the money up. “We can’t put it in the collection,” they said, “since it’s against our laws to accept money paid for murder.”

They talked it over and finally decided to buy a certain field where the clay was used by potters, and to make it into a cemetery for foreigners who died in Jerusalem. That is why the cemetery is still called “The Field of Blood.”

This fulfilled the prophecy of Jeremiah which says,

“They took the thirty pieces of silver—the price at which he was valued by the people of Israel— 10 and purchased a field from the potters as the Lord directed me.”

11 Now Jesus was standing before Pilate, the Roman governor. “Are you the Jews’ Messiah?”[c] the governor asked him.

“Yes,” Jesus replied.

12 But when the chief priests and other Jewish leaders made their many accusations against him, Jesus remained silent.

13 “Don’t you hear what they are saying?” Pilate demanded.

14 But Jesus said nothing, much to the governor’s surprise.

15 Now the governor’s custom was to release one Jewish prisoner each year during the Passover celebration—anyone they wanted. 16 This year there was a particularly notorious criminal in jail named Barabbas, 17 and as the crowds gathered before Pilate’s house that morning he asked them, “Which shall I release to you—Barabbas, or Jesus your Messiah?”[d] 18 For he knew very well that the Jewish leaders had arrested Jesus out of envy because of his popularity with the people.

19 Just then, as he was presiding over the court, Pilate’s wife sent him this message: “Leave that good man alone; for I had a terrible nightmare concerning him last night.”

20 Meanwhile the chief priests and Jewish officials persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas’s release, and for Jesus’ death. 21 So when the governor asked again,[e] “Which of these two shall I release to you?” the crowd shouted back their reply: “Barabbas!”

22 “Then what shall I do with Jesus, your Messiah?” Pilate asked.

And they shouted, “Crucify him!”

23 “Why?” Pilate demanded. “What has he done wrong?” But they kept shouting, “Crucify! Crucify!”

24 When Pilate saw that he wasn’t getting anywhere and that a riot was developing, he sent for a bowl of water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this good man. The responsibility is yours!”

25 And the mob yelled back, “His blood be on us and on our children!”

26 Then Pilate released Barabbas to them. And after he had whipped Jesus, he gave him to the Roman soldiers to be taken away and crucified. 27 But first they took him into the armory and called out the entire contingent. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and made a crown from long thorns and put it on his head, and placed a stick in his right hand as a scepter and knelt before him in mockery. “Hail, King of the Jews,” they yelled. 30 And they spat on him and grabbed the stick and beat him on the head with it.

31 After the mockery, they took off the robe and put his own garment on him again, and took him out to crucify him.

32 As they were on the way to the execution grounds they came across a man from Cyrene, in Africa—Simon was his name—and forced him to carry Jesus’ cross. 33 Then they went out to an area known as Golgotha, that is, “Skull Hill,” 34 where the soldiers gave him drugged wine to drink; but when he had tasted it, he refused.

35 After the crucifixion, the soldiers threw dice to divide up his clothes among themselves. 36 Then they sat around and watched him as he hung there. 37 And they put a sign above his head, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.”

38 Two robbers were also crucified there that morning, one on either side of him. 39 And the people passing by hurled abuse, shaking their heads at him and saying, 40 “So! You can destroy the Temple and build it again in three days, can you? Well, then, come on down from the cross if you are the Son of God!”

41-43 And the chief priests and Jewish leaders also mocked him. “He saved others,” they scoffed, “but he can’t save himself! So you are the King of Israel, are you? Come down from the cross and we’ll believe you! He trusted God—let God show his approval by delivering him! Didn’t he say, ‘I am God’s Son’?”

44 And the robbers also threw the same in his teeth.

45 That afternoon, the whole earth[f] was covered with darkness for three hours, from noon until three o’clock.

46 About three o’clock, Jesus shouted, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

47 Some of the bystanders misunderstood and thought he was calling for Elijah. 48 One of them ran and filled a sponge with sour wine and put it on a stick and held it up to him to drink. 49 But the rest said, “Leave him alone. Let’s see whether Elijah will come and save him.”

50 Then Jesus shouted out again, dismissed his spirit, and died.

51 And look! The curtain secluding the Holiest Place[g] in the Temple was split apart from top to bottom; and the earth shook, and rocks broke, 52 and tombs opened, and many godly men and women who had died came back to life again. 53 After Jesus’ resurrection, they left the cemetery and went into Jerusalem, and appeared to many people there.

54 The soldiers at the crucifixion and their sergeant were terribly frightened by the earthquake and all that happened. They exclaimed, “Surely this was God’s Son.”[h]

55 And many women who had come down from Galilee with Jesus to care for him were watching from a distance. 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of James and John (the sons of Zebedee).

57 When evening came, a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph, one of Jesus’ followers, 58 went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. And Pilate issued an order to release it to him. 59 Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 and placed it in his own new rock-hewn tomb, and rolled a great stone across the entrance as he left. 61 Both Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting nearby watching.

62 The next day—at the close of the first day of the Passover ceremonies[i]—the chief priests and Pharisees went to Pilate, 63 and told him, “Sir, that liar once said, ‘After three days I will come back to life again.’ 64 So we request an order from you sealing the tomb until the third day, to prevent his disciples from coming and stealing his body and then telling everyone he came back to life! If that happens, we’ll be worse off than we were at first.”

65 “Use your own Temple police,” Pilate told them. “They can guard it safely enough.”

66 So they sealed the stone[j] and posted guards to protect it from intrusion.

犹大的下场

耶稣在彼拉多面前受审

11 耶稣站在总督面前受审。总督问:“你是犹太人的王吗?”

耶稣说:“如你所言。”

12 当祭司长和长老控告祂时,祂一句话也不说。 13 彼拉多就问:“你没听见他们对你的诸多控告吗?” 14 耶稣仍然一言不发,彼拉多感到十分惊奇。

15 每逢逾越节,总督会照惯例按民众的选择释放一个犯人。 16 那时,有一个恶名昭彰的囚犯名叫巴拉巴。 17 百姓聚在一起的时候,彼拉多就问他们:“你们要我给你们释放谁?巴拉巴还是被称为基督的耶稣?” 18 因为彼拉多知道他们把耶稣抓来是因为嫉妒。

19 彼拉多正坐堂断案时,他夫人派人来对他说:“你不要插手这个义人的事!我今天在梦中因为这个人受了许多苦。”

20 祭司长和长老却怂恿百姓要求释放巴拉巴,处死耶稣。 21 总督再次问百姓:“这两个人,你们要我释放哪一个?”他们说:“巴拉巴!”

22 彼拉多问:“那么,我怎样处置那个被称为基督的耶稣呢?”

他们齐声说:“把祂钉在十字架上!”

23 彼拉多问:“为什么?祂犯了什么罪?”

他们却更大声地喊叫:“把祂钉在十字架上!”

24 彼拉多见再说也无济于事,反而会引起骚乱,于是拿了一盆水来,在众人面前洗手,说:“流这义人的血,罪不在我,你们自己负责。”

25 众人都说:“流祂血的责任由我们和我们的子孙承担!”

26 于是,彼拉多为他们释放了巴拉巴,下令将耶稣鞭打后,带出去钉十字架。

耶稣受辱

27 士兵把耶稣押进总督府,叫全营的士兵都聚集在祂周围。 28 他们剥下耶稣的衣服,替祂披上一件朱红色的长袍, 29 用荆棘编成冠冕,戴在祂头上,又拿一根苇秆放在祂右手里,跪在祂跟前戏弄祂,说:“犹太人的王万岁!” 30 然后向祂吐唾沫,拿过苇秆打祂的头。 31 他们戏弄完了,就脱去祂的袍子,给祂穿上原来的衣服,把祂押出去钉十字架。

钉十字架

32 路上,他们遇见一个叫西门的古利奈人,就强迫他背耶稣的十字架。

33 来到一个地方,名叫各各他——意思是“髑髅地”, 34 士兵给耶稣喝掺了苦胆汁的酒,祂尝了一口,不肯喝。

35 他们把耶稣钉在十字架上,还抽签分了祂的衣服, 36 然后坐在那里看守。 37 他们在祂头顶上挂了一个牌子,上面写着祂的罪状:“这是犹太人的王耶稣”。 38 有两个强盗也被钉在十字架上,一个在祂右边,一个在祂左边。 39 过路的人都嘲笑祂,摇着头说: 40 “你这声称把圣殿拆毁又在三天内重建的人啊,救救自己吧!你要是上帝的儿子,就从十字架上下来吧!”

41 祭司长、律法教师和长老也嘲讽说: 42 “祂救了别人,却救不了自己!祂要是以色列的王,就从十字架上跳下来吧!我们就信祂。 43 祂说信靠上帝,如果上帝喜悦祂,就让上帝来救祂吧!因为祂自称是上帝的儿子。” 44 甚至跟祂一同被钉十字架的强盗也这样嘲笑祂。

耶稣之死

45 从正午一直到下午三点,黑暗笼罩着整个大地。 46 大约下午三点,耶稣大声呼喊:“以利,以利,拉马撒巴各大尼?”意思是:“我的上帝,我的上帝,你为什么离弃我?”

47 有些站在旁边的人听见了,就说:“这人在呼叫以利亚呢。” 48 其中一人连忙跑去拿了一块海绵,蘸满酸酒,绑在苇秆上送给祂喝。 49 其他人却说:“等一下!我们看看以利亚会不会来救祂。”

50 耶稣又大喊了一声,就断了气。

51 就在那时,圣殿里的幔子从上到下裂成两半,大地震动,岩石崩裂, 52 坟墓打开,很多死去的圣徒复活过来。 53 他们在耶稣复活后离开坟墓,进圣城向许多人显现。

54 看守耶稣的百夫长和士兵看见地震及所发生的一切,都很害怕,说:“这人真是上帝的儿子啊!” 55 有好些妇女在远处观看,她们从加利利就跟随了耶稣,服侍祂。 56 其中有抹大拉的玛丽亚、雅各和约西的母亲玛丽亚以及西庇太两个儿子的母亲。

封石守墓

57 傍晚,从亚利马太来了一位名叫约瑟的富人,他是耶稣的门徒。 58 他去求见彼拉多,要求领取耶稣的遗体,彼拉多就下令把耶稣的遗体交给他。 59 约瑟领了遗体,用干净的细麻布裹好, 60 安放在他为自己在岩壁上凿出的新墓穴里,并滚来一块大石头封闭墓穴的入口,然后离去。 61 那时,抹大拉的玛丽亚和另一个玛丽亚坐在坟墓的对面。

62 第二天,就是预备日之后的那天,祭司长和法利赛人一起来见彼拉多,说: 63 “总督大人,我们记得那个骗子生前曾说,‘三天之后,我必复活。’ 64 所以请你命人看守坟墓三天,以防祂的门徒偷走祂的尸体,然后对百姓说祂已经从死里复活。这样的迷惑会比以前的更厉害!”

65 彼拉多说:“你们带上卫兵,去那里严加看守。”

66 他们就带着卫兵去了,在墓口的石头上贴上封条,派人看守墓穴。

27 Now when boker had come, all the Rashei Hakohenim and the Ziknei HaAm took counsel together against Yehoshua to put him to death.

And having performed the akedah (binding), they led him away, and delivered him up to Pilate the Governor.

Then when Yehudah, who had betrayed Moshiach, saw that Yehoshua had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the sheloshim shiklei kesef (thirty pieces of silver) to the Rashei Hakohanim and the Zekenim,

saying Chatati (I have sinned). I have betrayed dam naki (innocent blood). But they said, What is that to us? See to that yourself!

And Yehudah threw the shiklei kesef (pieces of silver) into the Beis Hamikdash and departed; and, having gone away, Yehudah hanged himself.

And the Rashei Hakohanim took the shiklei kesef and said, It is asur (forbidden) to put these into the Beis Hamikdash otzar (treasury), vi-bahlt (since) it is blood money.

And they took counsel together and they bought the Potter’s Field as a beis hakevoros (cemetery) for zarim (foreigners).

For this reason that field has been called the Sadeh HaDahm (Field of Blood) to this day.

Then that which was spoken through Yirmeyah HaNavi was fulfilled, saying, And they took the SHELOSHIM KASEF (thirty pieces of silver), HAYEKAR (the price) of the one whose price had been set by the Bnei Yisroel.

10 And they gave them for the potters field as Hashem directed. [ZECHARYAH 11:12-13]

11 Now Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach stood before the Governor, and the Governor questioned Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach saying, Are you the Melech HaYehudim? And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to him, It is as you say.

12 And while Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach was being accused by the Rashei Hakohanim and the Zekenim, he answered nothing [YESHAYAH 53:7].

13 Then Pilate said to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach Do you not hear how many things they give edut against you?

14 And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach did not answer him with even one word, so that the Governor was quite amazed.[YESHAYAH 53:7]

15 Now at the Chag (Festival, Pesach) the Governor was accustomed to release for the multitude any one prisoner they wanted.

16 And they were holding at the time a notorious prisoner, called [Yeshua] Bar-Abba [son of the father].

17 When, therefore, they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, Whom do you want me to release for you, Bar Abba or Yehoshua called Moshiach?

18 For Pilate knew that because of kinah (envy) they had delivered Yehoshua up.

19 And while Pilate was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, Have nothing to do with that Tzaddik; for last night I suffered greatly in a chalom (dream) because of Yehoshua.

20 However, the Rashei Hakohanim and the Zekenim persuaded the multitudes to ask for Bar-Abba, but Yehoshua they should destroy.

21 But the Governor answered, saying to them, Which of the two do you want me to release for you? And they said, Bar-Abba.

22 In reply, Pilate says to them, What, therefore, may I do with Yehoshua, the one called the Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach? Everyone says, Let him be made TALUI AL HAETZ (being hanged on the Tree!) Be hanged on HAETZ! [DEVARIM 21:23]

23 But Pilate said, Why? What rah (evil) has he done? But they kept shouting all the more, saying, Let him be hanged on HAETZ!

24 And when Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the multitude, saying, I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to that yourselves.

25 And, in reply, all the people said, His dahm be on us and on our yeladim.

26 Then Pilate released Bar-Abba to them. But after having Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach scourged, he handed him over to be hanged on HAETZ [DEVARIM 21:23].

27 Then the soldiers of the Governor took him into the praetorium and gathered the whole cohort against Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach. [TEHILLIM 2:1]

28 And they stripped him and put a royal scarlet robe on him, and,

29 After weaving a keter of thorns, they placed it on his head and put a reed in his right hand, and they fell down before him and mocked him saying, Hail, Melech HaYehudim!

30 And they spat on Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach and took the reed and began to beat him on the head.

31 And after they had made leitzonus (mockery) of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, they took off his robe and put his garments on him, and led him away to hang him on HAETZ.

32 And as they were coming out, they found a man from Cyrene named Shimon, whom they pressed into service to bear Moshiach’s Etz.

33 And when they had come to a place called Gulgolta, which means place of a skull,

34 They gave him wine to drink mingled with gall. And, after tasting it, he was unwilling to drink.

35 When they had hanged Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach on HAETZ, they divided up Moshiach’s garments among themselves, casting lots;

36 And, sitting down, they began to keep watch over him there.

37 They put up above his head the charge against him which read, THIS IS YEHOSHUA, MELECH HAYEHUDIM.

38 At that time, two shodedim were each hanged on his own etz with Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, one on the right and one on the left.

39 And those passing by were hurling insults at Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, wagging their heads,

40 And saying, You who are going to cause the churban (destruction) of the Beis Hamikdash and rebuild it in shloshah yamim (three days), save yourself! If you are the Ben HaElohim, come down from HAETZ (the Tree).

41 Likewise, also the Rashei Hakohanim along with the Sofrim and Zekenim, were mocking him, and saying,

42 He saved others; yet himself he is not able to save. He is Melech Yisroel? Let him now come down from the Etz, and we shall have emunah in him.

43 He trusts in Hashem; let Hashem be his Moshi’a (Deliverer) and deliver him now, if Hashem takes pleasure in him, for this one said, Ben HaElohim Ani!

44 And the shodedim (robbers), hanging, each on his etz, with him, were casting similar insults at Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, reproaching him.

45 Now, from the sixth hour, choshech fell upon all the land until the ninth hour.

46 And about the ninth hour, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach cried out with a kol gadol, saying Eli, Eli, lemah sabachthani! (that is, My G-d, my G-d, why hast thou forsaken me? TEHILLIM 22:2[1]).

47 And some of those who were standing there, when they heard, began saying, This one calls for Eliyahu HaNavi.

48 And immediately one of them ran and, taking a sponge, filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed and gave him a drink.

49 But the rest of them said, Wait. We will see whether Eliyahu HaNavi will come to save him.

50 And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach cried out again with a loud voice, and dismissed his ruach.

51 And hinei! The parochet of the Beis Hamikdash was torn in two from top to bottom, and the earth shook; and the rocks were split,

52 And the kevarim (graves) were opened, and many gufot (bodies) of the kadoshim who had fallen asleep were made to stand up alive.

53 And coming out of the kevarim after the Techiyas HaMoshiach, they entered the Ir Hakodesh (Holy City) and appeared to many.

54 Now when the centurion, and those who were with him keeping shomer (guard) over Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, they became very frightened and said, Truly this was the Ben HaElohim.

55 And many nashim were there, looking on from a distance, who had followed Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach from the Galil and had ministered to him.

56 Among them was Miryam of Magdala, Miryam the Em of Yaakov and Yosef, and the Em of Zavdai’s sons.

57 And when it was erev, there came an oisher (rich man) from Ramatayim named Yosef who himself had also become a talmid of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach.

58 This man went to Pilate and asked for the gufat Yehoshua [TEHILLIM 16:9-10]. Then Pilate ordered it to be given over to Yosef.

59 And Yosef took the gufat Yehoshua, and wrapped it in the tachrichim,

60 and laid it in Yosef’s own new kever, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the kever (tomb) and went away [Isa 53:9].

61 And Miryam of Magdala, and the other Miryam, stayed there, sitting opposite the kever.

62 Now on the next day [i.e., Motzoei Shabbos], which is the one after the Preparation, the Rashei Hakohanim and the Perushim gathered together with Pilate

63 and said, Sir, we remember that when he was still alive that mateh (deceiver) said, After shloshah yamim I am to stand up alive.

64 Therefore, give orders for the kever to be made secure until the Yom HaShlishi (the Third Day), lest his talmidim come and steal him away and say to the people, He has stood up alive from the mesim. And the last deception will be worse than the first.

65 Pilate said to them, You have a guard, go make the kever as secure as you know how.

66 And they went and made the kever secure, and, along with the guard, they set a seal on the stone.
