⁴⁷ And some of those who were standing there, when they heard it, said, “This man is calling for Elijah.” ⁴⁸ And ^(A)immediately one of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink.

³⁵ And when some of the bystanders heard Him, they began saying, “Look! He is calling for Elijah!” ³⁶ And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, “^[a]Let us see if Elijah comes to take Him down.”

³⁶ The soldiers also ridiculed Him, coming up to Him, ^(A)offering Him sour wine, ³⁷ and saying, “^(B)If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!”

²⁸ After this, Jesus, ^(A)knowing that all things had already been accomplished, ^(B)in order that the Scripture would be fulfilled, *said, “^(C)I am thirsty.” ²⁹ A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so ^(D)they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth. ³⁰ Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “^(E)It is finished!” And He bowed His head and ^(F)gave up His spirit.
