³⁸ At that time two robbers *were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left. ³⁹ And those passing by were ^[a]hurling abuse at Him, ^(A)wagging their heads ⁴⁰ and saying, “^(B)You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! ^(C)If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” ⁴¹ In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him and saying, ⁴² “^(D)He saved others; ^[b]He cannot save Himself. ^(E)He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him. ^43 (F)He trusts in God; let God rescue Him now, if He ^[c]delights in Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” ^44 (G)The robbers who had been crucified with Him were also insulting Him with the same words.

²⁷ They *crucified two robbers with Him, one on His right and one on His left. ²⁸ [^[a]And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And He was numbered with transgressors.”] ²⁹ Those passing by were ^[b]hurling abuse at Him, ^(A)wagging their heads, and saying, “Ha! You who are going to ^(B)destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, ³⁰ save Yourself, and come down from the cross!” ³¹ In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes, were mocking Him among themselves and saying, “^(C)He saved others; ^[c]He cannot save Himself. ³² Let this Christ, ^(D)the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” ^(E)Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him.

^32 (A)Two others also, who were criminals, were being led away to be put to death with Him.

The Crucifixion

^33 (B)When they came to the place called ^[a]The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. ^34 [b]But Jesus was saying, “^(C)Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” ^(D)And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves. ³⁵ And the people stood by, looking on. And even the ^(E)rulers were sneering at Him, saying, “He saved others; ^(F)let Him save Himself if this is the ^[c]Christ of God, His Chosen One.” ³⁶ The soldiers also mocked Him, coming up to Him, ^(G)offering Him sour wine, ³⁷ and saying, “^(H)If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!” ³⁸ Now there was also an inscription above Him, “^(I)THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

^39 (J)One of the criminals who were hanged there was ^[d]hurling abuse at Him, saying, “Are You not the ^[e]Christ? ^(K)Save Yourself and us!” ⁴⁰ But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? ⁴¹ And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving ^[f]what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” ⁴² And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come ^[g]in Your kingdom!” ⁴³ And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in ^(L)Paradise.”

¹⁸ There they crucified Him, and with Him ^(A)two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between.
