Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial^(B)

³¹ Then Jesus said to them, ^(C)“All of you will ^(D)be ^[a]made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written:

³² But after I have been raised, ^(F)I will go before you to Galilee.”

³³ Peter answered and said to Him, “Even if all are ^[b]made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble.”

³⁴ Jesus said to him, ^(G)“Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”

³⁵ Peter said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!”

And so said all the disciples.

The Prayer in the Garden^(H)

^36 (I)Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.”

^40 (A)When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

³³ And He ^(A)took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He began to be troubled and deeply distressed. ³⁴ Then He said to them, ^(B)“My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch.”

³⁵ He went a little farther, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him. ³⁶ And He said, ^(C)“Abba, Father, ^(D)all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; ^(E)nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”

^43 [a]Then ^(A)an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. ^44 (B)And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

³⁷ Then He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not watch one hour? ^38 (A)Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. ^(B)The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

⁴² Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, ^[a]if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.”

⁴⁰ And when He returned, He found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to answer Him.

⁴⁴ So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. ⁴⁵ Then He came to His disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour ^[a]is at hand, and the Son of Man is being ^(A)betrayed into the hands of sinners. ⁴⁶ Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.”

² And Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew the place; ^(A)for Jesus often met there with His disciples. ^3 (B)Then Judas, having received a detachment of troops, and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.
